Jimdo is easy to use, but its competitive advantage is for the segment of users who know HTML/CSS and JavaScript because those users can fully realize the benefits of custom coding on the backend. Custom coding enables more theme and feature modifications than comparable website builder products.

Background

Introduce your business and what you do there.

QuarkPixel is a web design and branding firm based in Bulgaria. We focus on building custom Jimdo websites and we create logos. I founded the company and I’m now joined by about seven other designers and developers.

Can you describe briefly the typical situation that a person or company may be facing that would encourage them to use a website builder tool?

Drag and drop websites allow anyone to build websites with or without technical skills. It is really easy to make a basic site. It’s not complicated to setup and you usually pay a low rate.

Solution

What type of client is an ideal candidate for Jimdo?

Jimdo is extremely easy. I would say it’s the easiest CMS [content management system] to use in the world. It is so easy to manage your content, and that makes it one of the best builders in my opinion because someone who is not familiar with any coding can start with Jimdo. It’s easy to become familiar with how it works and its tools. It’s very affordable - let’s not forget that. They have three plans: the free one, the pro, and the business.

Who should possibly avoid Jimdo?

Jimdo is very nice, responsive, modern, and very updated. However, Jimdo does not offer any database solutions. If someone wants to create a website that needs to login users or get data from the user, such as an account, Jimdo is not for that. So that type of site owner needs something more robust that allows users to log in or sign up.

What types of clients go to you or others for help with this website builder? How do they find/choose you?

Most of our clients come after they made their first site with Jimdo, and they want something more than the default features Jimdo offers. They want customization. They want something unique. They don’t want to change the CMS because it’s very easy like I mentioned. They want to keep the same ease of use from Jimdo but with custom design and features and more functionalities.

What cost factors should clients keep in mind when considering this tool?

It’s difficult to say a fixed price like $3,500 or something because it depends on what you need. Usually, most clients have projects with customizations that range from $2,000 to $10,000. That will make an absolutely brilliant custom website on Jimdo.

Features

What are the features or tools of the platform that have most impressed you?

I’m not sure if any other builders give so much freedom for customization to their programmers. Jimdo presents the default, but they have a secret door for the developers who can do whatever they want. That is the most impressive aspect. We can code completely custom templates without input or oversight from Jimdo.

Are there any areas of the software that could be added or improved upon?

There’s definitely room for improvement, but I believe the guys do a really good job. However, I believe that they could make their software a bit more flexible to an unfamiliar user to code. Someone who doesn’t know coding perhaps needs something more basic. I also know they are still improving it. I believe that till the end of the year they will test a lot of new features. I have spoken with a high ranking employee at Jimdo in Hamburg, Germany and she was saying that they will create new templates with new features and new designs soon. It will be really something special I believe.

What should customers be thinking about when it comes to more advanced features? And how does Jimdo compare to its competitors in this area?

To be honest, I’m not very familiar with other website builders. I believe, compared to other website builders, the most important thing is that Jimdo allows you to create things if you know coding. It gives you a window to create things, to make features, and to make unique designs.

What tools are available to integrate with Jimdo?

Because you can do whatever you want, if you need any integration with some finance tools that are available on any other site, you can use it on Jimdo as well. You get the HTML/CSS or JavaScript code and place it inside Jimdo, and it does everything.

How would you compare Jimdo’s hosting performance and uptime, SEO, etc?

I’ve been working as a Jimdo expert for the last three years. I’ve never had a problem with that. They have really, really strong uptime. I don’t know if they have different servers for the States and for Europe, but they do a great job. The site has never been down for my paid clients. I’ve never had a problem with time loading or pages down or something like that. I think they use a different server for paying clients.

Experience

Can you speak to the support of Jimdo? In what ways do they excel at support offerings, and where could they improve?

Awesome. Many times, clients come first to me and then I must contact Jimdo. However, they can contact Jimdo directly because you get a different level of support depending on which plan you sign up for. They are very knowledgeable in what they’re doing. They know all the issues, and when there’s a feature that doesn’t exist but that you want to make, they can help you.

5.0
Overall Score I’ve never had problems with Jimdo. The support team listens. If there’s an important new feature we want as a partner, Jimdo develops it because they understand what is good and what isn’t. I’ve had a really good relationship with them as a company.
  • 4.5 Features
  • 5.0 Ease of Use
It’s so easy that even my 8 year old daughter can create a website. When you add content or make changes, it’s live immediately. I’m familiar with some cases where clients were waiting a week for changes to take effect. For Jimdo this is not a problem.
  • 5.0 Support
    Really, really good.
  • 5.0 Willing to Refer
I would recommend it to any small business or person who wants to create something really good, quick, and easy for their clients or themselves.

If it was their first time building a site, I'd say go for it; it's perfect for beginners.

Experience

Jimdo isn't my main platform anymore but it is the platform I know the most about. At first, Jimdo was perfect for me because it was so simple. However, as i started to grow in my knowledge of website building and maintaining, i soon needed to upgrade my platform as well for the same reason I liked it in the beginning - it was too simple. Currently, i am using WordPress. But the features i used on the Jimdo platform most often were the customizable themes and also the easy upload of photos. It has performed pretty well. No benefits really.

Pros

It is really simple to build an amazing looking functional site.

Cons

To be able to use plug ins and widgets or to use html or javescript would be nice.

It is the best service that I have seen and would recommend it to anyone wanting to create the website they have always wanted.

Experience:

It was the best choice for available content, ability to customize, best graphics, and ease of use. The interface was very intuitive and made the process easy and enjoyable. It had the tools for any type of website, from basic to advanced and any style you could think of. The tools my company uses most are those that added pop ups, welcome bars and the survey maker. The customization tools were great to work with as well. It has been an excellent experience. Using Jimdo made me feel like a professional and gave my website that feel as well.

Pros:

It has many features and tools that help you build the website that you first envisioned in a fast and efficient manner.

Cons:

I can't think of anything.

Get a good idea of the site you want to build first, but keep your mind open. You are bound to find many ideas and options while designing your site that you hadn't considered.

Experience:

Jimdo seemed easy to use for someone with sparse web skills like me. It allowed me to incorporate my Google calendar, which has become the premier aspect of our site. Most importantly, I was able to come in at a level I can afford (free), with room to expand my site as my finances and experience allow. I use mostly widgets and the blog feature. I also like being able to switch up my site's appearance easily and quickly with the many format options offered. I haven't had any problems whatsoever with Jimdo. Although I am still learning the ins and outs of web design, the calendar I have posted there has attracted recognition throughout the community our blog caters to, even gaining mention in nationally recognized media and such!

Pros:

I love that it is simple to use, offers a full array of options for customization, and includes a huge selection of widgets that can be used to add even more interest and value to the site.

Cons:

I haven't found anything I dislike, to be honest. I do have a lot more to learn about web design, so there may be features that Jimdo doesn't work with, but (at my level) I haven't encountered them, yet.
