Vention provided embedded engineering talent across multiple disciplines to extend our in-house team. Their contractors worked alongside our staff engineers within our existing product pods, covering backend development in PHP/Symfony, frontend development in Angular, and QA/SDET roles. Key deliverables included feature work across our hybrid workplace platform, contributing to both customer-facing functionality and internal platform improvements, as well as building out automated test coverage to support our release process. The engagement gave us flexibility to scale capacity up and down as priorities shifted, without the lead time of permanent hiring.

Vention's engineers were fully embedded and productive within our pods in around 8 weeks, after which they delivered customer-facing features alongside our in-house team on a consistent sprint cadence. Their contributions spanned backend, frontend, and QA work, with output measured the same way as our permanent engineers — story points delivered, PRs merged, and features shipped to customers. The engagement gave us the additional capacity needed to maintain our product roadmap without slowing down core delivery.

Because Vention's engineers were embedded in our pods, the day-to-day delivery ran through our own sprint process. Where Vention really shone was on the account management side: they were genuinely responsive whenever we needed to bring on new roles or adjust capacity, and they made the commercial side feel easy rather than transactional. Communication was always quick and friendly, and it felt like a real partnership rather than a vendor relationship.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What stood out most was the quality of the partnership, in particular our account manager Jovi. He was consistently responsive, proactive in finding us the right people, and made the commercial side feel effortless. He genuinely cared about whether the engagement was working for us, not just whether contracts were getting signed. That kind of account management is rare and made a real difference to how the engagement ran day to day.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Vention could have done differently?

Honestly, very little, especially given this is our third engagement with Vention. We did hit a few bumps early on finding the right skill profiles and people, but that was ironed out quickly and we've got a good rhythm for getting the right talent in quickly.

I’m the head of delivery at Memrise, an online language learning platform. My role is to ensure that the product, engineering, and customer service departments are organized and that we have predictable feature delivery. I also ensure that our day-to-day operations function smoothly.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Vention provides us with staff augmentation services. The team manages our mobile, web, and backend platforms. For our mobile team, we've split it into Android and iOS.

We've ensured each platform has two people because people go on holiday and need breaks. We've made a conscious effort to have a partner for our web, iOS, and Android platforms.

For our backend team, we leverage DevOps and backend engineers who build our capabilities. They're a much larger group of around six teammates, so we've scaled that team further.

What is the team composition?

We primarily contact Jovi and Andrei. Jovi has been our account manager, and Andrei has also been involved with our project. We employ around six full-time teammates from Vention, including mobile, front- and backend engineers, UX designers, and QA engineers.

How did you come to work with Vention?

Our CPO introduced us to Vention. He had previously worked with them and had such a good experience. Since we were going through the COVID-19 pandemic, we needed remote resources, so we gave them a trial, and we've been happy ever since.

We've spent over £200,000.

We started working together in June 2020, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Vention has provided us with a very good caliber of talent. They have excellent communication skills and are very good collaborators. They have a great mindset of getting things done. We've integrated them well with our UK permanent staff.

For example, we've had an old and untouched architecture for our iOS team, and it's been tough to build things on it. We've ended up changing five files, which requires lots of testing. However, we can deploy something in half an hour, making us more operationally efficient and helping with costs.

How did Vention perform from a project management standpoint?

We use Jira, Trello, and GitHub to manage our projects and leverage Asana for design prototyping. The team uses LISA for user research. We communicate via Google Meet, Zoom, and Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Vention cares about their employees. They want to ensure their team is treated well and make every effort to ensure we have the proper structure. We regularly meet with our account manager to understand what's happening from our perspective and vice versa. We get lots of feedback, which is crucial for us.

When we have a brief, Vention constantly excels at understanding our needs and asking questions. They're efficient and meet our needs, which is very valuable. We don't feel they want to hire anyone to get a fee out of it. They're very personable, and we have a good relationship.

Vention is very personable, so it's helpful to be clear on your brief. Talk to the team about how you want to work because everybody works differently. Have an initial conversation where you share how you want to interact with Vention so they can create the right plan.

Develop an interactive experience that showcases animated 3D fish and 
other aquatic life through a real-time 3D rendered simulation. Visitors will 
use a touch kiosk located in front of a video wall to select specific fish or 
groups of fish for more detailed information.

Using the touch screen of the control kiosk the instructor will be able to 
give a guided learning experience to visitors.

The interactive display will offer bilingual support in English and Spanish.

For a completed projects, we handed off the upgrade of our application from a deprecated version of python. Without this upgrade, we would not have been in compliance with security standards
