Choose any other alternative. Oracle is expensive, has extensive downtime, and an ineffective support team.

Background

I am a Senior Cloud Architect at a global finical firm.  It was dictated to us that we would be implementing all future solutions through Oracle. We leverage almost every cloud service available by Oracle.

Experience

My company uses almost every Oracle Cloud Solution (IaaS, PaaS, etc) I have found that their documentation is often not versioned and contains seemingly random grammatically incorrect code samples. Additionally, there is frequent downtime.

I have found the support to be almost nonexistent. Oracle support, when available, such as at 4am from China, India, and Ukraine, is often eager to use your production environment as a test environment. I think their support department is broken down internally with very little communication between groups. They will transfer my tickets to other support groups in an attempt to get rid of me.

Most of their services have serious bugs, do not work, or are in no shape or form optimized in any logical way. This is literally the worst platform I have ever had the unfortunate experience to work on.

Pros

The only solution which works decently was the Oracle Developer Cloud, it is fairly easy to learn and I haven't had too many issues.

Cons
  • Oracle support is horrendous.
  • Frequent downtime.
  • Maintenance occurs on production systems outside of Oracle's maintenance windows.
  • Week-long maintenance windows.
  • Oracle Linux 7 failing to launch properly and being unusable for over a year despite two priority 1 tickets.
  • Constant pushback and belittling from "cloud success engineers".
  • 100 IOPS with 6+ seconds of IOPING on supposed SSD arrays.
  • Frequent bugs, and alpha like code.
  • Expensive (What would be a 90-day migration to AWS is still ongoing for almost 2 years, the opex is horribly expensive by comparison).
  • Oracle Open World speaks about a "successful migration" for my company before the migration efforts have even started. I find this highly deceptive.
  • Extremely poor bandwidth "intra-cloud".

Use Oracle cloud if you're up for testing environment, low cost and great support

Experience

Oracle is a trusted and established brand when it comes to servers, database and clouds. The challenges we had was downtime when there are a lot on simultaneous connections at a certain time. We also had a previous security issue but was solved right away by the tech support and with the aid our IT team. We use Oracle for Cloud storage, cloud portability, test environment for applications, collaboration of files and on-going projects, access level based on profile. I would say, it is somewhat good, but I think it needs more improvement on the security and simultaneous connections aspects. Overall, it carries the services it promised, and our company has better testing environment on our ongoing projects.

Pros

Cost is low, established name in database and computing, great client support

Cons

Minor issues with security

Continue as is but increase contact support for a longer period of time in the expiration prior to required negotiations.

Experience

The oracle private cloud software works the best with our applications. They also included support for the e-business suite and Siebel. Oracle came in with the best bid including the oracle database and middleware. Oracle cloud for backup and implement disaster recovery on the private cloud was effortlessly interchangeable. Oracle also offered the most flexible plan to include document scanning and storage with a reasonable monthly fee based on the millions of documents needing storage and immediate recall of the pdf for research. The system and updates have been flawless and very user friendly to non-it personnel. Adobe, oracle cloud private store, e-business suite, user transfer of documents from scanning to immediate database sort storage. Also back up and disaster recovery. The oracle suite of products have brought our company into the 21 century with a 360 view and history of a customer’s experience. The process has been invaluable. Whereas research would take days to weeks, now only takes moments with real time integration. Also the reliability of the system has been flawless.

Pros

Cost, reliable information, ease of use, and the continuity between products have all been great. Oracle support has been extraordinary!!

Cons

Nothing!! A++++ service and increased productivity!!

Consider any other platform first.

Experience

We chose oracle because our legacy databases were overwhelmingly oracle and upper management had a strong relationship with the company. Oms, ofs, omcs. The service has been a nightmare. Downtime has been very significant. Oracle tries to charge for every upgrade, no matter how minor. Service response is almost non-existent. We pay a lot for support but end up doing most of the functions ourselves due to the struggle every minor issue is to get resolved by oracle support (for which we pay a significant fee).

Pros

Honestly nothing.

Cons

Expense, downtime, hidden fees, poor (nearly non-existent) support.

Consider integration across existing technologies to enable flexibility.

Experience

We use a lot of oracle products, such as r12 and a lot or our internal applications are built using oracle technology. In general, we only want to use a very few vendors, so it made sense to use oracle cloud for our cloud solution. We believe that oracle offers an integrated public cloud and a best-in-class services across software as a service (SaaS) and data as a service (daas). Oracle cloud has increased business agility, lowered costs and reduced complexity. If we had to make the decision again today, we would choose oracle cloud without hesitation. Software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), infrastructure as a service (IaaS), and data as a service (daas). The service has exceeded our expectations. It has increased productivity with our staff and increased speed of delivery to our business customers. We now have fewer physical servers, which has reduced costs. Our DR strategy is significantly better and cheaper. Our IT costs are lower and our infrastructure is less complex.

Pros

It is integrated and possesses superior technology. It is a comprehensive solution that has lowered our costs.

Cons

Being an oracle shop, we have not really experienced any significant cons.

I would recommend this service to any company for the reliability, speed and, safety.

Experience

We chose it for safety and protection. It is always the most important, oracle cloud does an excellent job for this service. The back up on your data is very good. This company really takes care of all of this for you. They also have a satisfaction policy. The customer service is excellent as well. They really address all of your needs, and if you have any complaints, they take care of it really fast. You cannot beat the safety, and fastness with this company. Cloud storage, back up, speed and reliability have been the benefits we've seen. The cloud storage protects all of my company's data. We work a lot with design with building homes and oracle really helps.

Pros

I like the easiness and speediness of the service. It does cost a lot for this service, but it is very well worth it at any rate.

Cons

The price is a little expensive, but other than that it is a fantastic service to have.

Consider other services. If you are not a fortune 500 company you will be ignored by oracle.

Experience

My company is an oracle shop. Oracle support is a nightmare. It is a waste of money. OFs, OMCS, OMS. Oracle managed cloud has performed terribly for my company. Down time is incredibly frequent. Service windows are inflexible. Service itself is almost non-existent. I cannot think of any benefit we are receiving from this company.

Pros

I cannot think of a single thing.

Cons

Downtime is unacceptable. Cloud service support seems to spend all its time trying not to fix issues, pushing back on every little request.

Weigh all your options for cloud services first. Oracle Cloud has a lot of unique services but they may not be worth the cost for your business. I like to suggest Azure.

Experience

Oracle can't be beat when it comes to cost, security, and speed. We needed a SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS that could keep up with our complex work environment! We use practically every feature that Oracle offers: IoT, analytics, ERP, human capital management, supply chain, the social network, etc. Oracle features were easy to implement and we have seen a major increase in productivity.

Pros

I find that I use Oracle for 75% of my work. I love that it is easy to navigate and have found the analytics to be of great use.

Cons

The cost for Oracle has almost doubled recently due to the change in licensing.

This could be the cutting edge of your system.

Experience

It was one of the best solutions offered from a very reliable company; the provided service was very comprehensive for our company's needs for storage space, speed, limit, fees, security and integration with our current system. The problem we faced was having a large amount of data that needs to be shared across departments where physical hard drives and server would not be a good option. We use Applications and Managed Cloud Service. We have good integration with our other apps and services, e.g., CRM, salesforce management system, ERP.

Pros

Speed, reliability, and system integration.

Cons

None.

Consult with an oracle agent who is appropriate for your type of business. Look into all of their services. Make sure you don't buy too much more than you need.

Experience

It was one of the most experienced data storage providers, and the cost was reasonable. Private cloud storage and backup, and hybrid cloud services are used. It has performed mostly to our expectations. There have been a few minor data compromises that did not end up doing any damage. Overall, the performance has been very acceptable to our company.

Pros

They have a consistently reliable 24/7 customer support base. Their costs have not risen significantly. They are continually innovating in both storage and security.

Cons

I have not really found anything to dislike about oracle at this time.
