AppYourself proved to be a versatile solution for most groups looking to develop simple apps. The cost is reasonable and the payment structure is transparent. A particular strength was the App Connect feature, which allows companies to send push notifications, answer emails and change content in the app. Improved marketing toolkits are currently under development.


Can you provide a brief description of your company and the role that you play there?

Heise Media Service is a marketing service provider offering marketing solutions for small- and medium-sized enterprises. I’m the team lead of product management and campaign management.


What was the business challenge your company was facing that initiated the need for this platform?

We wanted to offer very smart and simple products to our customers, products that aren’t expensive and can solve the problems our customers have.


Was your company considering other platforms? Why this platform?

We started working with AppYourself in 2012. We made a market solution and we found them to be the most progressive company in the market. We checked out the technical competence of the app builder and compared different companies, and we thought they had the most progressive and technically developed app-building system available in 2012.

What type of client is an ideal candidate for AppYourself?

AppYourself can be used by many clients. We have plumbers, lawyers, restaurants, fitness centers, and many other clients that we use this app builder for. They have many different modules that we can use. It’s a very versatile app builder.

What cost factors should clients keep in mind when considering this tool?

There are no hidden costs. There is a setup cost, plus a yearly cost for publishing the app to the App Store. I think it’s very transparent for each customer to calculate the costs of an app.

On an annual or monthly basis, how much does your company spend to utilize the platform?  

The price depends on the number of modules we are integrating into our app solution for our clients. We spend $100-$200 USD per year for each app.


Can you share any success, metrics, or overall results of your implementation of this platform?

We have more than 1000 apps in the App Store that we’ve built with AppYourself. Our revenue is confidential but significant.


What are the features or tools of the platform that have most impressed you?

There is a feature called AppConnect. Our clients can download an app to lock in data and can control everything they want with this App Connect app. Companies can send out push notifications to clients, answer incoming emails and can change the text inside the app. I think this feature is a powerful tool for our clients. I think they are a very technically-driven company and very state-of-the-art. They watch the market and provide a great customer experience. It's a great tool for customers who want to make great marketing for their company.

Are there any areas of the software that could be added or improved upon?

They could offer their clients better marketing toolkits. They could integrate more material for their clients to give them more opportunities to promote downloading the app. Maybe they could send out QR codes, buttons, and print ads to promote app downloads. I talked to the CEO about this and they are working on this change already.

Can you speak to the support of AppYourself? In what ways do they excel at support offerings, and where could they improve?

The support staff answers questions quickly and they are very competent.
