WAPA/Proteus Risk Solutions is a maritime insurance broker, currently insuring more than 100 off-shore vessels against risks of war, theft, and damages caused by ice or other external factors. The web platform provides users with real-time

tracking technologies, proactively tracking vessels, voyages, and HRA’s (High Risk Areas), in order to estimate the exposure to theft or damages.

Challenge

Lizard Global provides the client with real-time tracking technologies by means of an AIS (Automatic Identification System). The AIS tracks the vessel through satellites and provides information through an API. This information consists of a unique identity (IMO) number of the vessel, together with the position, course, and speed of that vessel. 

Solution

On the WAPA/Proteus desktop platform, users can login to see the status of their vessel’s current location, velocity, and direction, which consist of three colours: green (clear of any risks and recently tracked), orange (possibility to enter an HRA within 24 hours), and red (currently inside an HRA, or not being tracked for more than 24 hours). Users of the platform can manage and edit their policies, fleet, risk zones, map and list view, vessels, daily digest, and voyages within the War Additional Premium Application interface.

Challenge

Through two products, Skill Tracker and Service Tracker, students are encouraged to individually track ATL skill development and record service learning plans, activities, reflection and experience. Teachers can easily track student progress, students take ownership of their ATL kill development.

Solution

The IB’s Diploma Programme (DP) requires schools to properly record, evidence and report the skills that students are honing. Students should service learning with the development of learner profile attributes and approaches to learning skills (ATLs): there should be one coherent platform to realise this.

Lizard Apps for us isn't just a supplier, but a true innovative thinktank. Helping us come up with functionalities but also setting focus on specific markets and helping us with all the next steps, including hosting, marketing concepts and more.

As we started out on our roadmap the first step was a brainstorm session on how the project would look like. To understand the market, but better yet understand the market needs.

From this point on Lizard Apps provided us with a timeline and scrum framework to ensure quick results for testing purposes. This helped in attracting new investors and business partners. Currently, we are in the final development stage for V1. And are looking forward to our pre-launch following soon!

What was the team composition?

The team consists of two project managers from Lizard side, multiple programmers and 2 people from Bricklinq side plus 200 test users.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Because of this approach we achieved a new business model for the real estate market. Looking different, with new insights delivered by Lizard Apps we were able to open up new markets. And currently shaving down the entire first project plan in order to make a solid impression towards our customers

The lizard apps team know how to work distances. With their team all over the globe they know how to share data, get next steps done and make decisions when you as a customer don't know what to do. With a Senior and medior project manager on board, we could not fail.

Lizard Apps makes the difference in thinking towards its customer by almost " being it's the customer" thinking ahead and coming up with solutions for upcoming challenges.

In response to agility and changing socio-economic and geo-political conditions, we came up together with a loyalty app that is accessible via mobile device. The value of the points change depending on certain triggers like personal occasions, weather, geo location, and any other external conditions. The points are redeemable anytime and push notifications are set to be able to remind consumers to consume their points.

What was the team composition?

Commercial Director, Tech Officer, and CEO were all hands on for the project.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The result was amazing in terms of user experience and capability. Client was impressed with the initiatibe we have taken through. Rewards program is a progression and requires optimization along the way, as such it is in progress.

I would say it is very effective. By being hands-on and having someone in my team too to be really hands-on helped a lot. It required much follow-thru, test and learn,    and some risks involved. But we are really happy to have partnered with Lizard--very dynamic, thinks out-of-the-box, and quick in response. But what's really important is the team work that made the project a success.

For what projects/services did your company hire Lizard Global?

Our founder, investor, Murat Ersoy had a business idea for a reverse design thinking, durable matchmakers platform and we were looking for a developer, or a developing strategic partner to turn our idea into reality. Our main advantage is our experience in the recruitment market. UnlocQed is a greenfield community business model, without legacy but with the experience out of the real HR world. Our community helped us during the BETA phase, which enabled us to tweak the features based on real live user experience, in comparison to a lot of startups without the relevant “in the mud” experience of the market.

What were your goals for this project?

To develop and launch a unique in its kind, sincere problem solving web application that will change the HR matching market permanently. As always creating ideas is not easy, but once you believe in the value of your idea, the road from there towards a web application which makes people realize, WOW, what a great idea I feel what you will solve and want to join the movement is another piece of marathon cake.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We had an experience with other coders, but at a point we realized that it did not match enough with our ambition. After sum up our minimum viable needs, in order to enter the market with our idea. We checked our networks, in combination with desk and phone research we came to a list with 15 possible strategic programming partners. One of them was Lizard Apps, in those days. We made a shortlist with three possible coding companies and we were moving towards one of them. As Lizard Global was proactive towards us in combination with the fact that we had direct contact with the CEO’s made us think ... .these are pretty short lines, we had a good feeling with the team and they reacted as one of the most detailed towards our requirements. Also because they were willing to give us guarantees about what would be delivered in the time and money we had for the process, we decide to go for this company in Rotterdam. Because of a former code traject and our business vision we were able to describe why we wanted certain features. In the Netherlands we have a saying “de koe in de kont kijken”. If we apply this, we lost to much time in the beginning of the project, because we already knew what and why we needed, what the solution needed in order to satisfy the users and solve the short term matchmakers problem. The CEO was (always) there as a sparring and strategic business partner, also the product management team was dedicated in way we appreciate. Especially because of the engagement. From idea to working websatabase!

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

A few weeks ago we launched and tested our platform with 150 users. The reactions were astonishing, in a co thinking way we only could have dreamed of. It confirmed, validated our business hypothesis, the need for our solution. Thanks to the “straight forward in depth ” feedback we were able to slightly pivot and mostly persevere our strategy and seduce the need launching partners. We became also aware of the “spoiled” level of users on other platform. Not particular on other classical vacancy platform, but more on other social media platforms e.g. At one side the comparison makes us very happy on the other side it gave us an insight on how high the features expectations of our users are. So speed and quality is required more than we expected before to be honest.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Projectmanagement was OK, they are also working on inprovement, that is also why we still cooperate. I am sure that we (dev and customer) will inprove this in the coming years with new diatributed orgtech (web3) such as blockchain. Transprancy in the value project chain is key, blockchain wil reduce the admin friction of most projects significanr, mark this words/ feel free The human connection is great. The professional input is very much appreciated. Major decisions can be made very fast Since we decided to see our Lizard team by ourselves and visited Liard in Kuala Lumpur, we even get into a more productive flow together ,We communicate via WhatsApp, a project platform, bi weekly sprint reports, skype and every possible (digital) way which is needed, Lizard Global is a very young, relatively experienced, flexible team, with eye for details.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Most impressive about Lizard Global is how their team spirit come to live every single day. Like unlocQed is build for, they hire with an open global mind. The diversity within the teams makes us happy and we think that a few of coding companies we met in the past 5 years, could learn a lot of this global mindset. For Lizard it is not important were their professional come from, but were they congruently go to building upon their individual track record.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Planning and feature expectation management can be improved. This is off course a mutual responsibility. Our initiative to visit and human relation building via Kuala Lumpur made our communication more smooth and the speed up the production of the aimed problem solving features. If you ask us , would you recommend Lizard , we would say : YES Especially because when we really needed them, they were there for unlocQed and proved to be flexible, constructive building minds.

Lizard Global was hired for the development of custom software which is called the Talent Portal. It is the online job platform, connecting talented individuals with innovative companies across 8 locations in the world. Initially, we needed to design the digital product, develop the software, and launch it.

What were your goals for this project?

The goals for the project were to develop a job platform, that should be working across several locations. The platform would allow companies to add job openings, and talents to search & filter for job opportunities. As a company working with many startups/scale-ups and corporates, this would allow us to showcase the existing market opportunities for jobs in different regions and help our community to find each other using this platform.

Lizard Global designed, developed, and launched a new job platform in addition to our existing services. The project started with the initial meeting to understand our problem/solution, our goals & challenges within the project. Once we agreed on all deliverables and goals, the production started with sprints of 2 weeks each. After each sprint, we would discuss the development of the platform, add feedback & suggestions for the next sprint.

The size of the team was considerably large, consisting of a project manager, product owner, design team & team of developers. The size of the team was changing over time depending on what skills were needed to successfully complete the project.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Once developed and launched, Talent Portal has had a significant positive reaction from our innovation community. Now, companies in our network can freely access a new job platform and find relevant talents, while talents can search for innovative job opportunities.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Project management was great and smooth during the whole project timeline. Deadlines were met within the 2-week sprints, feedback incorporated in the following sprints. Even though the development team is in different time zone, however, product managers and product owners made everything work effortlessly. Tools used for the communication: Google Docs, Hangouts, Skype.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The ease of communication with the team, flexibility, and professional work environment. Relevant business suggestions and on-time delivery were impressive.

A first app concept was ready 6 months after the first brainstorming session. After further fine-tuning the app was ready for commercial launch after about 14 months. We are currently in the 3rd major version of the app and up and running in 2 countries.

I'm the founder and CEO of Flexpackerz. Our goal is to make the world your office and turn every place into a coworking space. We have mapped over 400 places in the Netherlands where remote workers can work from (e.g. coworking spaces, flexible offices, libraries, workcafés etc.) and meet each other. I had a business idea for an online social platform and was looking for a developer to turn my idea into reality.

What were your goals for this project?

My goal was to develop and launch a high quality app that supports all types of remote workers, like freelancers, startups, students and business nomads, in finding their ideal place to work from and connecting them with the local business network on a daily basis.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I was looking for a partnership and not just a contractor. First I asked around in my network, talked to both freelance developers and development companies to partner up with me, but none of them dared to take on the challenge. Finally, Lizard Global got recommended to me and they were very enthusiastic to get on board of this entrepreneurial adventure.

I provided Lizard Global with a detailed mockup and description of each feature. Soon they turned this into detailed wireframes for the first version and started programming. Within a couple of months we launched an MVP and beta app. Since then we pivoted, experimented and re-designed a lot and now (2020) we are about to launch a complete new version that's ready for exponential growth.

What was the team composition?

Lizard Global has a great full-stack development team. Several team members contributed to the development of the iOS and Android versions of Flexpackerz. Because of our partnership, we are in the unique position, where our project is being supervised by the CTO personally. He is extremely skilled in both front-end and back-end development, which is a combination that is very hard to find. Next to that I can always count on the CEO as a sparring partner for the business side.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We are about to launch the best version of the Flexpackerz app ever, with huge improvements in the app performance, user experience and features that support our business model. I'm especially happy with the smooth animations in the new design, which make the app feel way more professional than the previous versions. Recent changes in the back-end and our CMS system have also made our workflow for adding new locations 300% more efficient.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We have a very good chemistry and short communication lines. Even though we work in different time zones, this has never been an real issue thus far. We plan calls every two weeks and communicate through chat or email whenever needed. For issue tracking we use Gitlab.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Every time that we had an unexpected major setback in terms of the development, they came up with solutions that eventually made the whole product a lot better. So 5 steps back resulted in 10 steps forward. I think that's a rare quality!

Are there any areas for improvement?

I would say planning and expectation management could be improved some more, although I have to say that they definitely improved their time management over the years and my patience usually pays-off.

Our company advises Dutch employers about legislation and employer benefits in the field of Social Insurance, Health and work absence due to sickness. Finally we predict the change for an employee to get back to work after a long period of illness (re-integrate). To do so we developed a risk tool. We hired Lizard Global to translate that tool to a user friendly web based platform.

The platform had to be user friendly, fast-response, steady, meet security standards and should store a lot of data. It also has to be available to different users and roles. Each role uses the platform for different goals. Lastly the platform should have our company look and feel.

We have already worked with them on another project.

They created our web based Ria Platform by which we can start questionnaires about the situation of the sick employee and some company details. The outcome of the questionnaire is a score on the 4 risk levels we determined: fine, privacy, legislation and re-integration.

Next to that the platform provides the possibility to create a report with the results of the questionnaire and in addition an advise for the employer. Data is stored and accessible, we have company overviews to see aggregated scores and we can view the progress of the risks over time. Questionnaires are easily created and mutated. Different visualisations are accesible in the platform.

What was the team composition?

We worked intensively with 3 people. Two of our company (myself and the business manager) and a product owner of Lizard Apps. The product owner inventoried our wishes and translated this into understandable requirements and deliverables for us to judge. Het also translated our wishes to the development team. We have (digital) meetings every two weeks. Each meeting is prepared with an agenda and afterwards we recieve a sprint report. To monitor our progress we also work with Trello. That is a good way to prioritize all the development wishes and keep track on the progress.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The web based Ria Platform reduces a lot of time for our consultants. Without the platform they had to analize the company results by hand and now it is done automatically in the platform. Next to that, our analists save time by using the questionnaire to create an empoyer advisory report. Finally, the chance of different outcomes between different analists is reduced, creating more steady risk analysis for our clients.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We communicated via e-mail, Trello, Skype, and by telephone. Goals were clear and when budget was running out, we were noticed in advance. It was made clear how our budget was spent and why some features took more time or costs than others.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The work they delivered under pressure. We did have some tight deadlines, but they had managed to deliver in time and conform our standards. It was not necessary to make concessions. Lizard Global  was able to understand our products fast so that the platform evolved in line with our business needs.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Keep up the good work. I only have general comments. Because we have to communicate in English and also with people all over the world it is important to check/validate mutual understandings. Do we assume to understand each other or do we understand each other? In the Ria project there was enough attention spent to that. Next to this it is important to create a SLA at the start of the project.
