"I reviewed several different vendors and picked Appy Pie because their platform did everything we needed it to do."

Recommendations:

This Appy Pie user highlights the dynamic updating process of the application development platform, but finds that the fee-based structure of the unlimited plan needs work.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

Wildside Press is a publishing company, and we're using Appy Pie to sell e-books.

What is your position?

I'm the publisher.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with Appy Pie?

We wanted to reach mobile users with our e-books.

SOLUTION

How did you come to work with Appy Pie?

I reviewed several different vendors and picked Appy Pie because their platform did everything we needed it to do. We were looking for the ability to accept different online payments and be able to enter all the various app platforms simultaneously with the same software.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

Since we've purchased the lifetime unlimited option, we don't really have a monthly budget.

FEATURES

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

Appy Pie has met our needs and expectations.

What are the features or tools of the platform that have most impressed you?

I like how it dynamically updates the apps on readers' devices when they open the app.

Are there any areas of the software upon which could be added or improved?

Appy Pie seems to add as many little fees as they can. I think once you pay for a lifetime subscription, it should be lifetime and not have new things trying to be added on.

Have you had a positive or negative experience utilizing the platform's support resources?

They tend to respond quickly. They're not always the most user-friendly tech people, but the managers are certainly available and can interpret for the tech people as necessary.

OVERVIEW

We have a few quick questions, and for each question, we ask you to rate Appy Pie on a scale of one to five, with five being the best. What would you give Appy Pie for functionality of the features available?

Five.

What would you give Appy Pie for ease of use or ease of implementation into your business?

Four.

For support, as in responsiveness of the team or helpfulness of the resources available?

Three and a half.

How likely are you to recommend Appy Pie to a colleague or similar business?

Four and a half.

For overall satisfaction with Appy Pie?

Five.

"Appy Pie was my first choice because of their responsive team, and I haven't considered any other companies since I've started."
— Managing Director, Omnia (Online Radio)

Recommendations:

The user highly recommends Appy Pie and highlights the responsiveness of their support team. This user has had an overall positive experience with Appy Pie and appreciates the continued improvements.

BACKGROUND

Can you please provide a brief description of your company?

Omnia is a marketing and public relations company located in Guyana, South America. Omnia uses two main marketing tools to reach clients which are GYDJS app, the app we built with Appy Pie, and our online radio presence which plays only Guyanese music 24/7.

What role do you play there?

I'm the managing director.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

Was there a business challenge your company was facing or problem that you were trying to solve with this platform?

There was not a specific business challenge, but we wanted an app and something that would be affordable. Appy Pie offered both of those things.

SOLUTION

How does your company implement this platform?

The app we've built with Appy Pie works as a radio directory and business directory for Guyana. We plan to continue to expand to other countries in the future.

Was your company considering other platforms? Why Appy Pie?

Appy Pie was my first choice because of their responsive team, and I haven't considered any other companies since I've started.

On an annual or monthly basis, how much does your company spend to utilize the platform?

The company is very affordable when it comes to payments, and it costs my team from $200 to $400 per month.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any success stories or overall results of your implementation of this platform?

We are pioneers in the fact that we are an online music channel that only plays Guyanese music 24/7, with the implementation of this app we are able to integrate our online music stream. It has started a movement in the country. We are the first to promote local artist worldwide and have been recognized by our Guyanese listeners.

FEATURES

Were there any software features or tools that impressed you?

My overall experience so far has been impressive.

Are there any areas of the software that you feel could be added or improved upon?

Yes. But, as I see it, the company is still implementing new features, and so I'm happy with the continued improvements.

Have you had to interact with the platform's support team or reference their support resources?

Yes. Their support team has always been very helpful.

OVERVIEW

"It's amazing that people would pay for someone else to design their app. Appy Pie has been awesome."
— Owner, Online Radio Station

Recommendations:

The application creator is the owner of an Los Angeles-based online radio station and e-commerce platform. This creator already had a website in place for both of his businesses, but was exploring the possibility of an app that would allow his subscribers to access his businesses easily. The price tag that came along with custom app development was not worth the outcome for this user. This user came across multiple do-it-yourself app builders and decided that Appy Pie best fit his needs and budget. The user highly recommends Appy Pie and has been very impressed by their responsiveness and support team.

BACKGROUND

Can you provide a brief description of your company and the role that you play there?

I own an online radio station that's also a clothing company. The app is very unique. Not only am I streaming audio through my radio station, but I've got an online store where I have an e-commerce platform setup.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was the business challenge your company was facing that initiated the need for this platform?

My radio station has been going for a while, and I've been online broadcasting through our web page. I went to several app developers that make custom apps, some, were reasonably priced, but I still couldn't justify the cost. I stumbled on Appy Pie. I was reluctant to make my own. But, from their site, I could see there was a template that was already contrived. Appy Pie definitely helped.

SOLUTION

How does your company implement this platform or software?

Appy Pie was great. I was able to consolidate both of my businesses. I didn't have experience building apps before Appy Pie, it was great that I was able to consolidate those into one. It's basically a commerce machine that I've gotten a lot of use out of already.

Was your company considering other platforms? Why this platform?

I did some research online. I looked at three of the five most popular app builders, and I compared them. Two other products came highly recommended over Appy Pie, but Appy Pie was much more reasonably priced than some of the competitors. I bought the Appy Pie package and have no regrets.

On an annual or monthly basis, how much does your company spend to utilize the platform?

I bought a year plan. I think I spent about $170 for a year. I'm already considering a lifetime subscription, which is more expensive, but the fact that it is unlimited development is such a great thing. I've already had a few other concepts that I'm ready to develop.

RESULTS

Can you share any success, metrics, or overall results of your implementation of this platform?

I've had a ton of success. The beautiful thing is that people in the day of Pandora, iHeartRadio, and Spotify people don't see you as a legitimate radio station if you don't have an app or website. What this app has given me is that legitimacy. You can go to my website and stream through your phone. I can now tell them they can open the app and it streams automatically. It's a lot easier as far as a marketing tool. Instead of sending them to my Facebook or Twitter or even my website it's easier to tell them to go to the app. The app connects them to the website anyway so it's great.

FEATURES

Were there any software features that really impressed you?

Appy Pie is easy. It's a true drag-and-drop system. I'm very familiar with that type of development. I've worked with website builders before like GoDaddy. It is very similar to those types of tools and maybe even easier. Any time I had a question, I wouldn't bother asking Apple because it was a half-hour hold. I could call up Appy Pie easily and somebody was there to answer every time. If they couldn't explain it to me thoroughly enough where I could do it myself usually they just offered to do it for me. I don't know if it was my charm or it was their behavior. It's just been a pleasant surprise. They've been awesome every step of the way.

Looking back, are there any areas of the software that you feel could be added or improved upon?

I've been with Appy Pie for about two and a half months, and it's been great. I'm still familiarizing myself with more of the features. I have yet to have a question or request that they don't already have. Everything that I've needed feature wise has been available. It's paramount. I need to stream audio, and I need to sell designer clothes. They've made it so easy for me to do both of those. It's amazing that people would pay for someone else to design their app with mine probably being a little more complicated than most people's apps. It has been awesome how available they've been. I can't think of one complaint.

OVERVIEW

We have a few quick questions and, for each question, we ask you to rate the software on a scale of one to five, with five being the best. What would you give the software for functionality of the features available?

Five. Appy Pie is very easy to work with.

What would you give the software for ease of use or ease of implementation into your business?

Four.

For support, as in responsiveness of the team or helpfulness of the resources available?

Five.

For overall satisfaction with the platform?

Five. Appy Pie has been awesome.

How likely are you to recommend the software to a colleague or similar business?

Five. I already have.

"I’m thrilled with AppyPie so far. From my perspective, from the building side, it has been incredibly straightforward and easy. I’m really thrilled." — Co-Founder, Slim Down Jupiter

Recommendations:

The client is a Slim Down Jupiter, a health and wellness company that provides their clients with a dieting regimen. This client needed an offering that allowed their clients to engage with their dieting methodology directly through their mobile. This client found that AppyPie was the right do-it-yourself mobile application development solution. The client recommends AppyPie for their available support team.

BACKGROUND

Can you please provide a brief description of your company and the role that you play there?

I’ve been in private practice as a chiropractor for 35 years. I am now concentrating on Slim Down Jupiter, which is a weight-loss program using ITG protocol. I am the co-founder of Slim Down Jupiter along with my wife and manager.

What is the name of your application, and what is its main purpose?

The name of my app is Pocket ITG Diet Guide. Its main purpose is to help a dieter make intelligent decisions about what to eat for a healthier lifestyle. It’s an easy reference for questions pertaining to what you can and cannot eat on our weight-loss plan.

Please describe your role in the initial app development process and your current engagement with app development or content updates?

I knew nothing about app creation when I started this. I’ve been a technophile for a long time, but that doesn’t mean I’m proficient. I’m always learning about new marketing and social media techniques.

How would you describe your app development skill level, such as beginner, some coding experience, expert, and so on?

Beginner.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was the business challenge your company was facing that incited the need for a mobile application, and what was the business goal that you were hoping to accomplish?

We needed a convenient platform to help our dieters make good food choices when they were grocery shopping. I looked around for an app that gave people an easy reference for these questions, and couldn’t find anything. I decided to go about trying to create one. So, I went about trying to find some way to facilitate that and found AppyPie.

For what app platforms did you want to build an app? Did it matter to your business whether the app was a hybrid or native app?

I’m going to make them available on all platforms. I want it available everywhere. We’re close to getting the app published. I’m going to go live with the basic app, and the commerce side will come as soon as I can get my catalog together.

SOLUTION

Did you initially begin with the software’s free version or trial period? What pricing plan does your company currently utilize?

I’m going with the platinum plan, which allows me to have a presence in all platforms.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any success, metrics, or overall results of your application since publication?

I’m thrilled with AppyPie so far. I haven’t seen it in practice so I have no metrics, but if my intuition is correct I think it will execute well. From my perspective, from the building side, it has been incredibly straightforward and easy. I’m really thrilled. I can’t believe everyone doesn’t do it. I’m amazed at how quickly I got something that looks like an app.

FEATURES

Have you found it necessary to consult any of the company’s available support resources? Was the support useful and accessible?

The support thus far has been stellar. I was assigned an account rep, who I have contact with personally if I need him, and I do at this stage. I’m a fairly quick study, but support has been great. The only barrier was a slight communication issue as their support team is located outside of the U.S.

Were there any software features or tools that you were really impressed by, of which potential buyers should be aware?

It’s been a joy. I really look forward to it, and I’m having fun with it. I think anybody with reasonable intelligence and understanding of Internet commerce can get through it fairly easily. I’m enthusiastic, and I look forward to a strong relationship with AppyPie.

OVERVIEW

"I’ve recently updated my package because I am so happy with AppyPie that I wanted to take advantage of all that it has to offer." — Owner, The Wedding Nanny

Recommendations:

The client is the owner of The Wedding Nanny, a child care services company catered to child care during wedding ceremonies and receptions. This client needed to expand her business so that her clients could access business information through their mobile easily. This client developed an app using AppyPie that surpassed expectations. This client is extremely satisfied with AppyPie and comments that she is most impressed that she was able to reach live support staff whenever she needed technical help.

BACKGROUND

Can you please provide a brief description of your company and the role that you play there?

I am the founder of a service called the Wedding Nanny. I founded it in 2008, and it’s done very well by word of mouth. Technology has grown, so I decided to create an app for it. I’m a Web developer by training with little knowledge of app development.

What is the name of your application, and what is its main purpose?

We provide a wedding nanny service, so we do child care services for weddings. We go to the venues on site, we make sure the kids are entertained through child-friendly activities. In the process, we’re keeping the children safe, the bride and groom happy, and the venues are protected from liability.

How would you describe your app development skill level, such as beginner, some coding experience, expert, and so on?

I’ve done all the updates to the app myself. I have some coding experience because of my Web development training, but I don’t know much about app development.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was the business challenge your company was facing that incited the need for a mobile application, and what was the business goal that you were hoping to accomplish?

We wanted to be able to communicate easily with the wedding parties and the venues all through a touch of their mobile. Everything is mobile now, everyone has a smartphone, and we all love apps. For me, this was the best way to get information out, increase credibility, and be more accessible.

For what app platforms did you want to build an app? Did it matter to your business whether the app was a hybrid or native app?

We’re in Google Play store now, and we’re in the approval process for the Apple App Store.

SOLUTION

Did your company have a formal selection process for deciding on a mobile app development software? Was your company considering other software or possibly a mobile app development service provider?

I researched other app software and tried to do some coding myself, but when I found AppyPie I was ecstatic. It was incredibly easy, it was amazing, and the results were overnight. Before AppyPie, I initially tried another popular do-it-yourself solution but they were impossible to reach via telephone or email, and I didn’t like that. After the first, I tried another company, but it was too hands-on and very time consuming. I didn’t want to take that much time away from my service. The third time was the charm, with AppyPie I was able to reach somebody on my first call, and they were very helpful.

Did you initially begin with the software’s free version or trial period? What pricing plan does your company currently utilize?

I initially bought the gold value right from the start. At this point, I had tried two other do-it-yourself solutions and knew exactly what features I needed to be included in my package. I’ve recently updated my package because I am so happy with AppyPie that I wanted to take advantage of all that it has to offer.

About how long, in terms of hours, would you approximate it initially took to have an app ready for publication?

The AppyPie support team got me up and running on the Google Play Store in literally one day.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any success, metrics, or overall results of your application since publication?

My app is fairly new. I just launched it. My business has done very well without the app, but I’m hopeful that with the app it will help bring credibility, and show them I’m not just a babysitter. I think the app is going to bring me to that level of credibility.

Have you found it necessary to consult any of the company’s available support resources? Was the support useful and accessible?

I reached someone on my first call, and they were very helpful. I got feedback right away.

Looking back, were there any areas of the software that you felt were not intuitive or that you feel could be improved upon?

I want to be able to incorporate the concepts of GPS services into my business. I don’t believe the app is capable of doing that yet, but I imagine it will be coming down the line.

OVERVIEW

We have a few quick questions and, for each question, we ask you to rate the software on a scale of one to five, with five being the best. What you give the software for ease of use in the development process?

$250 - $1,000/yr. spend

"One thing that really separates Appy Pie from the rest of the technology companies, is ther customer service. It shows in their attitude and effort." —  Hongwei Shan, Founder, HS Cosmetics

Recommendations:

The client is HS Cosmetics, a small cosmetics company that needed a mobile presence. This client wanted to highlight their available products and offer users the option to purchase and process payments using their mobile. HS Cosmetics utilized the Appy Pie software to architect a hybrid mobile app to support their desired mobile commerce. The client is highly satisfied with Appy Pie and points to their high level of software support as a reason for recommendation.

BACKGROUND

Can you please provide a brief description of your company and the role that you play there?

The app is for my cosmetics company called HS Cosmetics, and I’m the CEO.

What is the name of your application and what is its main purpose?

The app is also named HS Cosmetics, and the purpose of the app is to help display important information about my company. The second main purpose is to complete purchases and checkout. We’ve been able to integrate options to help our users process payments directly from the app.

Please describe your role in the initial app development process and your current engagement with app development or content updates?

I founded HS Cosmetics, and I knew exactly what kind of app I wanted to develop. I was looking for software that could help me to implement my ideas easily with drag-and-drop functionality. I served more of an app architect role and utilized Appy Pie’s programmers when needed. I was involved in the whole development process from head to toe.

How would you describe your app development skill level, such as beginner, some coding experience, expert, …?

I have coding experience, but for this particular app I took more of an architect role and utilized Appy Pie’s programmers for any detailed development I needed for my app.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was the business challenge your company was facing that incited the need for a mobile application, and what was the business goal that you were hoping to accomplish?

Today, everything is about mobile, more specifically about mobile apps and mobile commerce. I wanted my app to display information about my cosmetics, but also needed to process payments. People can now order products and pay for them directly through the app. Our last goal was to access all of the social media platforms through our app. We have been able to integrate features to reach Facebook and Twitter.

What app platforms did you want to build an app for? Did it matter to your business whether the app was a hybrid or native app?

I had a very clear vision with this app. My goal was to have the app available for every smartphone in the U.S. market, and Appy Pie delivered that. For each platform, we were able to develop a hybrid app that adhered to each platform’s guidelines and specific coding requirements.

SOLUTION

Did your company have a formal selection process for deciding on a mobile app development software? Was your company considering other software or possibly a mobile app development service provider?

I did thorough research and looked through a list of top app development software. I had a clear goal of what I wanted accomplished, so it was easier for me to go through the selection process. I compared their strengths and weaknesses. I thought Appy Pie’s software was best tailored to what I needed.

Did you initially begin with the software’s free version or trial period? What pricing plan does your company currently utilize? Are there any plans to change?

I tried the free version but never launched the app that I built there. I utilized the free version to see what features Appy Pie had available. I played around with the software, and I liked it. The free version allows access to the database and the features they provide for their customers. I called to ask questions of the support team, and I was happy with the answers. Through the combination of the free trial and answers from the support team, I decided to go with the premium version. I’m a very technically savvy person, so I felt confident about my decision to go with Appy Pie.

When was the application published? Is the app still available in app stores?

The app has been published to Google Play and Amazon. It is currently under review by Apple.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any success, metrics, or results of your application since publication?

We just launched not too long ago so I really can’t give you numbers. I am going to be working with a company who publishes app reviews, to get more exposure. I haven’t done that yet because the iPhone version isn’t ready yet.

Overall, how satisfied are you with the usability of the app development software. Is there any general user feedback that you can share?

The responses I’m getting back from the people that have used it is that they really like the app and the idea.

Can you speak to the available development tools, such as templates and drag and drop? Were they intuitive and easy to use?

Yes. They were great. The drag-and-drop tool is great. You don’t need any coding experience or instructions. It explains itself.

Does your app utilize any of the location-based services? Are you satisfied with their functionality?

Yes. It has GPS functionality, I’ve tested it on Android and iPad, but I don’t want it to collect too much personal information as per our privacy policy. For people that like to use GPS functionality, it’s great.

Can you please speak to the content management system, how do you upload new data or make changes? Have you found the process simple and accessible?

Yes. It is very accessible.

Are you satisfied with the social media, push notifications, and gamification integration options available?

Yes. The social media part is great. I didn’t use any gamification integration options, so I can’t speak to that functionality.

Does your app utilize any monetization features? Are you satisfied with the options available?

Yes. Very much. Appy Pie helped me to develop a secure method for our mobile shopping cart. Users are able to process payments whether they have a strong or weak signal.

Were there any specific features related to your industry vertical that were a necessity to your finished mobile application?

For this app there were three key things that I wanted for my app. First is the shopping cart, second a coupon code, and the third thing is having access to all of the social media platforms. They gave me exactly what I was looking for.

Have you found it necessary to consult any of the company’s available support resources? If so, which ones? Was the support useful and accessible?

If I had any questions I could use the Appy Pie website to chat with their customer service team. If they couldn’t answer my question directly, they would send me to the developers who were more technically savvy and would easily answer my question.

Looking back on the development process, were there any software features and tools that you were really impressed by that potential buyers should be aware of?

One of the things that really matters, and that separates Appy Pie apart from the rest of the technology companies, is its customer service. It shows in their attitude and effort. Appy Pie works very hard to make sure there are no technical errors present in the final product. Appy Pie helped me accomplish my goal. Their customer service and technical support are phenomenal.

Were there any areas of the software that you felt were not intuitive or that you feel could be improved upon?

I would suggest Appy Pie develop another version with a larger focus on mobile commerce. The resolution for product images could be better and the design overall should be more editable.

We have a few quick questions and, for each question, we ask you to rate the software on a scale of one to five, with five being the best. What would you give the software for ease of use in the development process?

Recommendations:

The client is extremely satisfied with the work delivered by Appy Pie. They are very responsive and knowledgeable. The only minor negative is that they didn't explain all parts of the app publishing process to the client initially. Appy Pie is highly recommended to others.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company your role and responsibilities.

I am a pharmacist, and we created a company that provides audio-based medication-specific counseling sessions to help patients better understand their prescribed medications. This helps replace those pesky leaflets that are handed out at the pharmacy and emergency rooms. People would download the app, click on the name of the medication, and they listen to a six- to eight-minute presentation of all the specific required counseling elements of any particular medication. I am the founder, president, and owner of the company, and I developed the app.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Appy Pie?

Rather than building the app from scratch, I wanted to find an app that would work with my goal of being able to upload or link audio profiles in a very easy-to-access manner. I have categories of what you may consider an album. I have posted 250 so far. I went through a detailed Internet search, doing free trials. When it came to Appy Pie, it stuck, and I thought that would work. I developed it, put it together, and there were two or three special projects where I contacted them.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

They were very quick to work with me in designing and increasing the number of items I could put in a particular section or giving me more spaces. There were two or three times when I paid them extra to do a special project in order to make the app a little more customized for what I wanted it to be used for. They were very agreeable and very price friendly. They would send me the work, I would make corrections and send it back, and they would redo it very quickly. They often implemented the corrections by the next day.

What was your process for selecting Appy Pie with which to work?

I found them through Internet trial and error. There are so many sites out there that list the top app developers. I went through as many of those as I could find. I spent all summer working on that. The first half of the summer was trying some of the developers, and when I found Appy Pie, they were all over the project. They were quick to point out what they could do to improve it and make it work.

Can you provide a ballpark figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

They didn’t do most of the work. I implemented everything. They did the customization. Once we finally got set, my part of the project took me a month to put it together. I work full time, so I worked on this for two hours every morning. It took a while to find the best way to link the audio files. We came up with a custom way of accomplishing that. I have them all posted on my website. I linked the URL, and they helped me define how to make that link happen, rather than using one of the formats that are currently available, having the MP3s listed in one of the different formats that are available in the marketplace. I just have them listed on my website, and I link the URL to the custom audio playlists on Appy Pie. There were more than 200, so we spent a lot of time going back and forth.

When did you complete the app project?

I completed the app in September or October of 2013. The app is in the iTunes Store and the Google Play store. Appy Pie has the option of posting on the iTunes Store under their developer account. I have my own developer account with Google Play, so I had them post it under my account. I used them to post the app on iTunes under their own developer account. When I saw that, I didn’t like how it looked. It showed someone else's name as the developer, and I wanted my name as the developer. So, I created my own developer account, and for another fee, they reposted it under my developer account.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

No. I didn’t connect Google Analytics to it. That’s the next step. I like the HTML5 version of the app, which is free. It integrates seamlessly with my website, and I listed four different ways to access my software. Three of them are Appy Pie-based: Android, iTunes, and HTML5. You just click on the HTML5, and it pops up on the screen.

How did Appy Pie perform overall throughout the work?

They were fantastic. They were extremely thorough, and I am acutely impressed with their customer service.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

The fact that they’re all on a first-name basis is unique. I haven’t needed to phone any of them. Their email response time is so quick and accurate that I feel like I’ve gotten to know them just through emails and the work that they’ve done.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

I found it a little confusing to post the site through their developer account, but that was because I had never done that before.

We ask you to rate Appy Pie on a scale of one to five, with five being the top score. What would you give them out of five for the quality of their work?

Four point five. Five is unattainable.

For schedule, as in being on time and meeting deadlines?

Four point five. They were on time and met every deadline I had.

For cost, as in value for your money and sticking with the original estimates?

Four.

For the overall score?

Four point five. For what I was doing, I haven’t come across any issues with how they’ve worked with me.

How likely are you to recommend Appy Pie to a colleague, out of five?

I would recommend them. Four point five.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

We are one of the largest health centers in Toronto, Canada.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I am the learning resources educator. I bring e-learning and technological resources into the hospital.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Appy Pie?

Appy Pie’s mission was to develop a way-finding app for our student center here at the hospital.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

Appy Pie helped develop the app and provided training. I had quite a few questions with respect to compatibility across different platforms. There were some differences between iOS, Android, Windows, and BlackBerry. They were extremely helpful in making sure that everything was consistent. We developed the app for all four of those platforms. We launched the Android platform first, but that was just a timing piece. Google was more open to publishing the app in the App Store more quickly than a couple of the other platforms. The intention was to release all of them as soon as possible.

What was your process for selecting Appy Pie with which to work?

I did an Internet search for a few months regarding app resources. I also looked for a few of the hosted options that will allow content updates in real time, rather than having to submit changes through the App Store and wait for it to be republished. I demoed about four different platforms, and this one seemed to fit our needs the best.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

I made three or four lengthy requests that had multiple parts to them. They took between 24 hours to a week, depending on the upload time with the different App Stores. Part of the work was changes to the app versions. They made some upgrades to the app-building platform. Some of them were changes to the App Store policies.

As far as the content management of the app, that has been ongoing on my part, but not theirs. The Android app was first in the App Store in December of 2013. The other platforms were uploaded in January or February of 2014.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

We don’t have the metrics available yet. We are currently engaging our end users in the process. We have about 25 people that have engaged with it, and we are recruiting other departments that are looking to host content within the app. We are waiting for that to do the full analysis of the metrics.

How did Appy Pie perform?

Appy Pie was hands down fantastic. I don’t have a bad thing to say. Everything that I requested was answered within a matter of hours. It was not necessarily fixed because the request may have taken longer. Any of the questions that I had were replied to, at the very least, within an hour or two. The results came to us anywhere from 24 hours to a week, depending on whether the app needed to a full re-upload to the App Store. For the most part, everything was resolved within 24 hours.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

The side-by-side interface while developing was nice, because you could see a live preview of the HTML5 version of the app while building. With some of the other platforms that I worked with, you had to load a live preview separate from the building process. This was more seamless in that you could add something and see the results right away.

Also, the publishing of new content within the app, without having to re-upload to the App Store was a bit more seamless. Some of the other ones I demoed took a little more time for the content to appear, whereas with Appy Pie, it was almost instantaneous. I would hit Submit and then refresh on my phone, and it was there.

As far as features, the customizability was not as great as some of the other platforms that I demoed. The choice of layouts or the customizability of the look was not as extensive, but the actual backend functionality is all there. When you’re entering content, it's very intuitive. It's also very logical in the way that it's layout. Despite the layout limitations, I think it functions better as a whole because of it.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

My only suggestion would be to notify existing clients of some of the updates that are coming out. I haven’t seen a newsletter highlighting some of the new features that have been uploaded. I submitted a question the other day about linking directly to a page within the HTML5 app. They said it was a planned feature for the future, so I would suggest getting that information out to the clients.

We ask you to rate Appy Pie on a scale of one to five, with five being the top score. What would you give them out of five for the quality of their work?

Five.

For schedule, as in being on time and meeting deadlines?

Five.

For cost, as in value for your money and sticking with the original estimates?

Five. Definitely. There were no additional costs, which was amazing.

For the overall score?

Five.

How likely are you to recommend Appy Pie to a colleague, out of five?

I have already done so. Five.

I am the CEO and the founder.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Appy Pie?

Our goal was to have the app accepted into the App Store and Google Play store.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

Appy Pie published the app on the App Store and Google Play. I did most of the development myself. The app was developed for iOS and Android.

What was your process for selecting Appy Pie to work with?

I found them through an online search. I think it was a tech blog. Then, I gave them a call and liked what I heard.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

It was a large engagement. More than $10,000.

When was the project completed?

The app was published in December of 2013.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

The results were positive, and I am satisfied.

Are you satisfied with Appy Pie's performance?

Yes. I am with Appy Pie and the way they operate. They were great.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

I was able to put my apps into the different stores, so I am satisfied. That was my only simple goal, and they accomplished what they promised.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

Sometimes. Different issues with their platform were hard to understand. Communication was difficult at times. If they had more resources in the U.S., it would be a lot easier.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company.

We import heating and air conditioning products from many different sources. I’m in charge of a product from Italy. We distribute it across North America to different partners.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I am the sales manager for North America.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Appy Pie?

Our goal was to allow our partners to have an app that would make life easier for them when they’re in the field dealing with engineers or to ask them questions. The app would allow them to look at specifications without memorizing all the products. They could look on their phone and look up data, find out information, request information from us, and answer questions. This is for the salespeople and engineers.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

In addition to publishing the app, they answered some of our questions. We handled the design and development.

What was your process for selecting Appy Pie with which to work?

I went through many companies. I’m not a programmer, and they seemed to be one of the easiest to use to make an app. With many of the others, you have to know coding, even though they said you didn’t.

When was the project completed?

The project was completed in August of 2013, but I’ve been updating it lately myself.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

It was very small. It took minutes for the short consulting work.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

It was successful. It did exactly what I thought it would. It worked out. It wasn’t successful in being used. It wasn’t used very much at all, but that's my problem. My idea wasn’t as good as I thought it was. Now I’m changing it to see if we can get more use out of it.

We were 90 percent satisfied with the advice Appy Pie offered.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

Ease of use is unique and much better than competitors. Ease of getting online and getting it done quickly also stands out. It's easy to change yourself, and it updates quickly.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

When I first started working with them, they had forums with other members like myself who had questions that had been answered. The forums are gone now. They were very good because it involved users helping other users. I would like the forums back.

We ask you to rate Appy Pie on a scale of one to five, with five being the top score. What would you give them out of five for the quality of their work?

Four.

Five.

How likely are you to recommend Appy Pie to a colleague, out of five?
