The preferred communication tool was JIRA, although some communication was done through instant messaging tools or email tools. Depending on the developer and project some communication flowed through the CEO where other projects we were able to work directly with the developer and get updates. Most communication was done in a timely manner, although sometimes there were delays due to time zone differences, communication not coming directly from the developer, or some developers not being as proactive to provide frequent updates. Techniques like scheduling meetings or asking for daily updates via email helped to improve some of the timeliness though.

Mawla is a boutique agency so they are really eager to deliver for their clients and do whatever it takes to make the client happy. We had a really tight turnaround as the site needed to go live to coincide with our brand launch, so the team only had 6 weeks. They made it happen and delivered a site that exceeded our expectations. I must also call out that Arjen was an absolute dream to work with and is such an asset to this company. He was incredibly efficient and responsive, with any request being solved within a day. He understood exactly what we wanted to achieve and would always find a way to make it happen.

Apart from their deep technical expertise, they really helped introduce agile methodology into the project, and that was hugely helpful. Whatever resource allocation issues were occurring at the beginning of the project, they responded to them effectively and managed to increase their internal resources that they were able to provide. Having additional capacity might be the only recommendation, but that’s well beyond our control and it really has more to do with what they’re willing to invest in and what their long-term goals are for human capital.
