Recommendations:

If you are looking for one of the cheapest payroll solutions on the market that gives you virtually unlimited options for customization, go with ADP Workforce Now. Setup does not take much time depending on how many employees you have, and payroll takes even less time to do once setup is complete. You can incorporate retirement withholding accounts into it, as well as sending employees' paychecks to numerous accounts if they request. Changes are simple to make, along with additions. It might have a little bit of a premium price to it but it is a complete solution for your payroll needs.

Experience:

For the cost, it could not be beat. It is simple to use and allows me to do everything that our company needs. It makes paying employees an easy task that takes very little time. They conveniently produce all reports, whether for the company or the employee, either for record or tax purposes. Direct deposit is easy to setup and applying different rules to different employees is easy. It saves so much time using ADP. The ability to customize how employees want their pay directed, whether to multiple accounts or profit sharing. Direct deposit is utilized. Tax reports for the company and employee at year end. Employee access online is also utilized. We no longer hand out paystubs, the employee may print those online. We use the online input for pay periods as well. ADP workforce has been completely beneficial to my company. They save so much time by making payroll completely simple. Any changes that need to be made take no more than a few minutes to do. You can essentially fully customize what you use with ADP Workforce, giving you a ton of options for your payroll. I can focus on my clients with the time saved by ADP Workforce Now.

Pros:

ADP Workforce Now is just simple to use. I can customize essentially everything with the click of a button. It saves me a ton of time that I would have to otherwise deal with payroll that I can focus elsewhere. It is also a great tool for the employees. They have all the information they need at their fingertips.

Cons:

Sometimes ADP Workforce Now can be a little slow to use. The system could be sped up a little bit. Other than that I really do not have any complaints.

Research that this ADP product fully meets the needs of your organization. Make sure to address any questions and concerns you have during the implementation stage. Obtain a clear understanding of training needed to utilize the product to its full potential for your organization.

Experience:

We have been a long time client of ADP. First recommended by our accountant. As we grew over the years and our needs changed, we implemented the Workforce Now product. Since we were transitioning from one ADP product to another, the transition was seamless. ADP provided full support in updating our staff on any necessary training needs until we were completely comfortable with Workforce Now. We fully utilize the payroll administration and compliance, benefit administration, tax filing, time and attendance and reporting functions of ADP Workforce Now. The transition to this product was seamless and if any minor issues did arise, ADP Client Service team responded immediately. Minor issues were due in part to our need to update an outdated computer system and not necessarily to do with ADP. Workforce Now has widened our ability to manage benefits and provided expanded reporting capabilities.

Pros:

The most beneficial tools of Workforce Now has been that it has streamlined benefit administration and compliance for our organization.

Cons:

Using the product did require somewhat more extensive training then we initially anticipated. Navigation could be more user friendly and intuitive.

Keeps paycheck data clean and concise. Easy to access financial information, especially around tax time. Made it easy to see historical work-figures relating to your job--aka clock-in time, time left on vacation days, etc.

Experience:

ADP makes it really easy for us. They offer us an online service to do our payroll so that we can do it at any time we want. They also make it easy to offer my employees direct deposit if they want it. Running payroll for a small business is a headache. For me to have switched over to ADP, it’s saved hours and hours every week. It could come out to days a month! Being able to use a resource and a partner like ADP allows us to stay true to our bottom line by being efficient, but also by keeping our focus on what we do best. ADP has provided a lot of resources to us in understanding the Affordable Care Act. It’s the information we need in one source—it saves us time trying to research all those subjects we need to understand. We were also very concerned about overutilization of overtime. So we used ADP’s report-writing feature to anticipate when overtime was going to occur. Putting together an employee handbook really only took me about an hour. With ADP, we spend less time in our back office, which allows us to stay focused on profit-generating activities.

Pros:

As a small business we operate in 5 or 6 different states, so there are a lot of requirements for filing taxes in each one. ADP does an excellent job of helping us maintain that.

Cons:

We don't have any negative comments about ADP Workforce. It continues to be an asset to our company.

In my experience, Run by ADP is excellent. They are perfect for a small business, they offer low fees, they handle all your tax payments for you. They save lots of time for the payroll person, have a very user friendly website that offers paper checks as well as direct deposit. They are very affordable and worth every penny.

Experience:

We are a small business with less than 10 employees, so Run by ADP was perfect for us. They offer everything we need for a small weekly fee. They save me time because they handle paying all of our state and federal taxes. They provide our W-2's. We have just started taking advantage of Direct Deposit for our employees, which has been wonderful, saving everyone time from having to go to the bank! We use the payroll, taxes, W-2, Direct Deposit and Paper Checks features. They have performed wonderfully. It has benefited me because it saves me so much time each week, since they take care of printing our checks, direct depositing our checks, they send our federal and state tax dues in for us, they prepare our W-2's.

Pros:

I just like the simplicity of using Run by ADP the most. It's very user friendly, and they have great customer service if I needed help with anything. They are always friendly and happy to help. They take care of all our needs and save me so much time. It's a great tool for any small business because they take care of all your needs and don't charge an outrageous fee.

Cons:

Honestly, there is nothing about ADP that I don't like. They meet my needs in every way!

ADP Workforce Now is essential for management of payroll, HR, benefits and ACA compliance.

Experience:

I have utilized ADP for many years at various companies. At my current company, we were in need of a complete HRIS system that could handle HR, Benefits, Recruiting, Time & Attendance and Payroll. We utilize the system to it's fullest extent. With the recent downturn in the oil industry, we had to cut our corporate staff from 11 to 4, which meant losing our time & attendance clerk, payroll & benefits person and only remaining with myself - the HR Manager. ADP Workforce Now has allowed me to manage all of our employees through their software.

Pros:

ADP Workforce Now is an easy to use system. It is user-friendly, and allows employees, managers and myself to adapt to a completely electronic payroll and HR environment.

Cons:

The mobile app could be optimized. Additionally, when an employees transfers to another state, the process to convert to a new file number and withholding tax information is difficult. I wish there were an easier way to accomplish the transfer.

It is a reliable service to start off; but if you have higher requirements, go for another option.

Experience:

It is well-known and the most popular one on the market. It is considered secure, reliable, and compatible with a lot of different systems. We use ADP for hours tracking, payroll report, W-2 filing, and direct deposit. We have enjoyed using ADP. So far, the only issue is that we would like to have customized reports, but the system didn't allow us.

Pros:

It flows well; the system is relatively stable and reliable. The response is fast, and customer service is very responsive.

Cons:

It does not let us customize the report the way we want it to be; some functions are clumsy.

I think it is important to analyze your requirements very closely. No two payroll services are the same, so you also should consider what is more important. There are many cheaper options out there if you are willing to make some tradeoffs on customer support and reporting features.

Experience:

Our workforce is spread across multiple locations, and we needed one company that can handle everything without issues. At the moment, three people administer it. We use ADP for only software and reporting for India, but we use them for full processing in the United States. We chose this in 2014 when we were originally using a combination of an internally hosted software and Excel sheets. It became impossible to manage as the company expanded.

We have received heavy discounts from ADP, so our cost is low. ADP also has two different pricings for us as we are using them for Indian and American employees. Typically, it costs us less than $10,000 per year. We are satisfied now – moving payroll is a very major undertaking, which we will not do it unless we must. The customer support is very good. We can call them anytime.

Pros:

The reporting features are very important for us.

Cons:

Maybe the UI could be a little better.

Recommendations:

Go with a smaller company if you want a lot of attention from your payroll service. The implementation process is not as smooth as promised. The technology is also not as user-friendly as promised.

Experience:

Our HR challenge was to receive lower payroll and benefits costs. Four of us administer and use the payroll and HR features. We researched PEOs [professional employer organizations] and went with the lowest cost and best promises, but that hasn't exactly gone as smoothly as promised.

It costs $30,000 annually, with a payroll fee of $30 per employee per paycheck. Despite the difficulties, we won't be switching since we just began on January 1, 2017. But, we do like that we get a fast response from the hotline for employees, even though we dislike that our HR representative is rarely available.

Pros:

Their HR has a 24/7 support line.

Cons:

It needs a more user-friendly site and QuickBooks integration.

Recommendations:

The implementation takes a while, so be patient.

Experience:

Our challenge was finding another PEO [professional employer organization] service with reduced and more transparent fee structure. We have a team that works on our account to administer payroll support, and we have an online system that allows us to make updates and changes as well as run reports and process payroll.

We had been with Insperity but moving toward finding a different company. My friend is a rep for ADP Total Source and helped give me benefits and cost comparisons. The payroll portion is lumped in with the other services we receive, but total cost for PEO services is around $70,000 to $80,0000 annually with insurance, taxes, and benefits. We plan to keep this one, and the support has been great for everything payroll-related so far.

Pros:

They have a great online system.

Cons:

They don't offer an automatic processing feature. If you have most or all your employees on salary, Insperity provides a feature that allows you to auto-approve payroll instead of having to submit it and receive paper documents.

Talk to them, and they will work with you, even if you are a small customer for them.

Experience:

We were looking for a "reliable" payroll service provider who takes responsibility for payroll and tax payments without consuming our bandwidth. The ADP payroll website is mostly used by the administrators. Our most commonly used features are payroll processing, tax records, and reports.

We chose ADP in 2011, when it was referred to us by our bank as being the most reliable. We plan to continue using ADP since we have not had any issues so far, and we have a very good deal in place with our payroll provider. So far, the customer support team has been responsive and easy to get access to. We have not had any major concerns yet.

Pros:

We like the run payroll feature, reports, and tax records.

Cons:

There could be some improvements around insurance and international ACH [automated clearing house] payments.
