I am an independent software implementation specialist. I have been delivering software solutions in the Workforce Management space since 2007. I am the owner and principal consultant of my firm.

I hired BigStep Technologies to build the prototype for a network scheduling solution that I wanted to startup. I needed a social network based scheduling solution with a responsive design website and iOS and Android native apps. This solution will provide an extra revenue stream that should allow me to phase out my implementation activities.

I looked for vendors that specialized in social networking platforms and already had some of the base of the requirements build. I strongly considered 2 vendors for the project. I chose BigStep Technologies because the existing solution that they had was robust and their responsiveness and communication gave them an advantage over their competition.

I reached out to BigStep Technologies with a business requirements document and requested a proposal for cost and build. We met for several requirements gathering sessions for BigStep Technologies to design a solution.

They delivered a statement of work and proposed schedule and assigned a team to my build project. The vendor has been responsible for designing and building the solution and providing system testing.

What was the team composition?

I was assigned a business relationship manager and a project manager as my main point of contact for all technical work. There are developers and QA resources that are assigned to the project, but I do not have direct visibility to them.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The results of this engagement have been excellent. BigStep Technologies delivered the software build project and met the original business requirements. The delivered solution meets our goals for the project and will be the base for our startup solution.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The team was very engaged and attuned to the technical aspects of the project. We scheduled weekly meetings as a touchbase, but they also gave me access to their internal Jira to monitor the progress of development.

While the company is offshore, we have been able to schedule the meetings during times that work for both us, and there are not any language barriers.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I have appreciated their ability to manage the time, distance, and language differences that are inevitable with offshore work. I have also been impressed with the project manager and her ability to manage the project and the requirements seemlessly.

At this time, I do not have a suggested area for improvement.

I was a buyer for their plugins and now how they work, some time ago i hire them to develop for me some new features and they do a great job, when i start my project i reviewed more vendors who had plugins to adapt my social network to my needs, and they have all i need the best plugins, the best app's and finally i saw that they offer a great service that cover a wide spectrum that i need, finally i hire them to create my apps, and then i hire them again to help me to create my infrastructure on AWS, they had a great professionals on the new culture i need on my project, i want to have an agile and devops culture, and they offer this for me. I will try to explain my project without all the secrets because we don't want our competition can see all of our projects will be offer asap, but i can see that my project have 2 apps the first one is build for android systems and the second one is build for ios systems, we have a website responsive at all wit PWA integrated and have the infrastructure build over AWS. Our project will be offering to the users the catalog of the little commerce from where they live and the services from them in an easy and with a good user experience.

We speak every day with our Project Manager, she is the best professional you can see on this world, we have a team of developers which are led by our Project Manager there are 4 types of teams The android developers, the Ios Developers Te Website developers and the system administrators who are experts on AWS infrastructure and do the best of Devops Culture. All of them works as a one team this is great for us.

We are working on our marketing to launch our project on the next weeks, we can not show our project now, but you will see it in the next weeks.

We are using Skype for all of our communications, this is great because we have several groups with the teams who are working with us and can speak and tell our feedback instantly.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The products they had developed are great, then i could see how their developers and engineers works, and was fantastic see that my dream can be do real only with this company they have all the professionals that my projects needs, and have the expertise that i was looking for, only can say they are GREAT!!

Are there any areas for improvement?

All the things are susceptible to improvement, and do a constructive criticism is good for all companies, i think they can integrate a little more the client over the project, they works agile, but they must outline more the work of Product owner with the stakeholders. Because some times can be that some new feature is not as Stakeholder imagined, and can be fall in a little lose of time, this not happened to me but in some times i feel this could be pass. As i told begin this is only a constructive criticism, because all the things that i made with them is Great!! but if they works on the agile line BigStep Technologies can be a reference over the world. I will continue working with them because they are a great company wit the best Expertise.

Many fallbacks concerning social sites are the lack of transparancy towards privacy and security. We have developed our platform with the help of BigStep Technologies vaste knowledge to ensure transparency and security remains at the forefront.

Project management can as with all complex projects be somewhat overbareing, but our mutual interest has made our working relationship grow in a positive manner. Communications are good even if a little slow at times which is to be expected.

Their level of customer support is second to none. While some things take time to resolve, I can rely on their team to respond in a professional manner.

Every company has room to develope and improve, I strongly believe they are always striving to move forward in a positive manner. The time difference does at times present issues but not ones that cant be overcome.

To create a mobile app that is verbatim to my vision for Writers Block. Delivering content to users in a way that is easily read without being too simple.

I did my own research regarding platforms for Social Networks that are easily customizable and are recognized by the industry, and from there, I found BigStep Technologies Pvt. Ltd. as one of the developers for the said platform I have chosen.

We communicated through email and Skype calls in order to establish what my vision is for Writers Block. Upon them agreeing that they are capable of helping me on my project, we commenced development.

We started initially on mimicking the UI as presented in my blueprints, to be more specific, I purchased a mobile app template from them and asked them to strip down a lot of the app's features (voice calling, maps, direct messaging) and trim it down according to my preference.

They were able to add Giphy functionality to the app which was a necessary requirement. We had many Skype calls in this duration where they also had great suggestions on how we can improve the user interface even further.

I needed them to create a custom form of content called 'Blocks', which are pieces of content that include both written text, a picture and an optional audio file. I also asked them to revamp the interface when browsing 'Blocks' in a way that's more enjoyable to the user.

What was the team composition?

The project included Aashi, the coordinator for the project, responsible for relaying my ideas, issues and suggestions and communicating with the other developers associated with developing the API.

Shubham, the main developer of the project, responsible for developing the front-end of the mobile app, testing and resolving bugs and issues and also providing suggestions on the logical steps to take for a more efficient development workflow.

The API team, which worked on key aspects of the app, mainly with the creation and submission of block posts and the custom features it requires. I was responsible for providing my blueprints and ideas, effectively communicating them with the team, reporting bugs and testing the app and controlling the overall direction of the app development process.

This project is a fundamental part of my business, as I will need to create the best platform for my users to use so they can create the content they desire and read it comfortably.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

They were quick to inform me of any delays and were very effective in finding solutions that both parties would agree on. The project coordinator assigned to me was available past work hours and constantly communicated with me to ensure everyone was on the same page regarding the development process.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their responsiveness, willingness to negotiate and work ethic. They updated me every single business day with a schedule on how the day will be spent, shared screenshots and videos, and were available for me to Skype and regularly report issues and suggestions to the developer.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I don't see much room for improvement from a business standpoint, they are able to create a mobile app with my blueprints and ideas in mind. They have been able to adhere to the time frame they proposed even if there are delays. There was an issue implementing Giphy functionality which was quickly sorted out through creative thinking from the developer.

It was 100% offshore, so the outcome was based on the timeline. Their initial engagement was good, along with their ongoing communications. The team also completed the work on time and on budget.

The project was fairly simple, so managing deliverables was not difficult. That said, I was happy with the communication and delivery schedule. Everything went to plan.

Communication is generally out of hours (I'm based in San Francisco). It would be good to have someone working hours more aligned to at least a part of our business day, rather than conversations starting at 8 pm PST.
