I think the WebFX Messaging portal could use some work. Having a feed of all messages that I am tagged in with timestamps would be ideal, as currently it is easy to miss messages and can be hard to find relevant chats.

Specifically, WebFX was responsible for keyword research, on-page and technical SEO recommendations, link-building programs, content generation for web pages and blogs, blog strategy and publishing support, and ongoing SEO performance reporting. On the paid media side, they managed PPC strategy, campaign setup, optimization, and reporting across search platforms.

The engagement also included website content assistance, landing page and prototype development, collaboration on blog planning and editorial calendars, and analytics and performance tracking to support traffic growth and lead generation objectives.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Over the course of the engagement, there were periods where baseline SEO and PPC activity was maintained, including ongoing keyword tracking, routine reporting, and campaign execution that supported continued presence in search results. Some incremental traffic and lead activity was observed earlier in the relationship, primarily during periods of stable account leadership.

However, over the final 12 months, measurable performance gains plateaued and, in some cases, regressed. Any short-term improvements were outweighed by quality issues, missed timelines, rework, and governance failures that limited sustained impact. The lack of consistent execution, approval discipline, and optimization reduced the overall effectiveness of the programs and made it difficult to attribute meaningful, long-term ROI to the engagement.

As a result, while activity was delivered, the project did not ultimately achieve the level of measurable progress or business outcomes expected for the duration, investment, and scope of work.

WebFX’s project management was inconsistent and deteriorated over time. While there were established processes and regular check-ins early in the engagement, delivery against timelines became increasingly unreliable—particularly in the final 12 months.

Key deliverables were frequently missed by weeks or months, including prototypes and content intended to support active SEO and PPC initiatives. In several cases, work was delivered well after deadlines had passed and was not at the quality level expected, resulting in additional rounds of review and rework.

In terms of responsiveness, WebFX was generally reactive rather than proactive. While responses to requests were typically acknowledged, follow-through often required repeated escalation. When issues were raised—especially around quality control, missed approvals, or missed deadlines—the response lacked urgency and accountability. Rather than clearly owning problems and proposing corrective actions, concerns were often deflected or reframed.

Overall, project management did not meet expectations for a long-term strategic partner managing critical, ongoing marketing channels, and delivery reliability was a significant factor in our decision to end the engagement.

We engaged WebFX for SEO and PPC support over multiple years and ultimately made the decision to terminate the relationship due to a sustained decline in quality, professionalism, and accountability—particularly over the past 12 months.

While the relationship began with promise, execution steadily deteriorated. The most concerning issues centered on quality control and governance. On more than ten occasions, WebFX published content directly to our website that had not been approved by our team. These were not minor errors—they represented a breakdown in basic agency controls and introduced real brand and operational risk.

Delivery timelines were also consistently missed. Prototypes and work products were delivered months after agreed-upon deadlines, and when they did arrive, they often failed to meet even baseline professional standards. This created repeated rework, internal friction, and loss of confidence in the team’s ability to execute.

Compounding these issues was WebFX’s lack of ownership when problems were raised. Rather than acknowledging failures or proposing corrective actions, responsibility was routinely deflected. We did not experience a customer-first mindset or a sense of urgency to course-correct, even as issues accumulated.

The situation worsened after WebFX removed the head of our account—the one individual who had consistently provided strategic value and continuity. Following that change, the account felt under-resourced, reactive, and disconnected from our business context. Escalations did not result in improved outcomes.

Ultimately, this engagement consumed significant budget and internal time without delivering commensurate value. Based on our experience, organizations considering WebFX should scrutinize their quality assurance processes, approval workflows, account continuity, and escalation mechanisms before engaging. We cannot recommend WebFX for companies that require high standards, tight governance, or a true strategic partnership.

Are there any areas for improvement or something WebFX could have done differently?

WebFX’s primary opportunity for improvement was delivering work that met a clearly defined standard of quality. Despite repeated feedback and ample time to course-correct, the team consistently demonstrated a lack of understanding of our scope, expectations, and business needs. Work was delivered late, incomplete, or below professional standards, often requiring significant rework and intervention from our internal team.

As quality issues accumulated, there was no visible elevation in rigor, oversight, or accountability. Instead, delivery appeared increasingly optimized for speed and efficiency rather than effectiveness, with growing reliance on automated and AI-generated outputs and diminishing client service investment. Even as a long-term, high-value client, we did not see renewed focus or a meaningful commitment to meeting expectations.

In the end, this was not a failure of opportunity or communication—it was a failure to consistently deliver work that advanced our goals.

On the paid side, optimizing our Google Ads and launching programmatic campaigns helped lower our cost-per-lead and improve ROI. The migration from Drupal to WordPress was smooth, with no loss in traffic or rankings, thanks to a solid SEO migration plan. Overall, the project gave us a faster, more user-friendly site and a marketing strategy that’s performing measurably better.

After working with WebFX for just a little over a year, we generated two new clients through SEO search.

WebFX's project mangement skills are top-notch. The team is consistantly very responsive. I appreciate the valuable feedback, suggestions, and ideas I receieve from the team whenever I have questions or throw out an idea. This makes our relationship a collabrative one. 

Towards the end of 2024, there was a brief time where it felt like we were not progressing forward. Almost like we hit a wall. There would be some pieces we discussed executing on during our check-in meetings, but by the time the next meeting came around, nothing was done.

I'm not sure what happened around this time to cause the experience. It improved after I noted that our CEO was thinking about moving on from the professional relationship due to not seeing results. I haven't had any issues since then.

• What I find unique about WebFX is their transparency. Honesty is extremely important to the culture of our business. It is hard to come across business partners who are transparent in the business relationship.

I did have a poor experience during onboarding, which I shared with a Internet Marketing Team Lead at the time.

The WebFX salesperson I was speaking to was knowledgable and helpful thoughout the prospect stage. However, after onboarding, I was suprised by how little the person who was assigned to us knew about our industry. The salesperson was made aware multiple times how important it was to find a partner who understands our industry (financial) and has worked on SEO-related projects for a financial company before. We were rest assured that they have worked with firms similar to ours. It felt like we were being lied to so the salesperson could get their commission. 

What I also didn't like about this salesperson is after I onboarded, they were aggresive about following up with me on moving forward with another potential project that we discussed early on in our conversation. I had to explain serveral times that we are not ready to move forward, when we could potentially be ready (1 year), and the reasons why. It was getting so bad, I finally had to give a very stern response so they would leave me alone. Ironically, after I complained about this salesperson, another one reached out to me only a couple of months later after to ask the same question about this project.

They seemed to really have a handle on the web/SEO space (these were the only elements under my purview) and brought deep knowledge to any of our discussions. But I'm sure their other groups are just as strong.
