I’m the managing director of Maxwell Oil Tools, a company specializing in no-friction centralization in the oil and gas business.

What challenge were you trying to address with SOWA Marketing?

We were looking for a partner who could provide us with a strategy to get in front of our customers and get leads. We’re in a market with thousands of drilling engineers and potential customers. Still, ours is a very niche market. Although it is a worldwide operating market, it’s very difficult to get in front of potential customers in a traditional way, such as by booking appointments and having one-on-one meetings with those potential customers.

We thought that there could be a better way to attract customers by leveraging the Internet and LinkedIn. Therefore, we were looking for someone who could help us with social media marketing (SMM) so that we could focus on our business operations.

What was the scope of their involvement?

SOWA Marketing has helped us create SMM strategy on LinkedIn for lead generation. From the start, their approach was to get us a high number of followers on LinkedIn fast so that we could find new potential customers. Thus, they’ve been creating LinkedIn Ads for us.

Although we’ve also done some trials on other social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, the type of professionals we want to work with require a LinkedIn presence. Therefore, that’s the most important channel for us to focus on. Our user personas — high end engineers — usually don’t use those other channels.

In addition to LinkedIn marketing, SOWA Marketing has helped us with graphic design and corporate identity. Now, they’re also evaluating our website to work with us on improving it in the future.

We launched a new product 3–4 months ago, and SOWA Marketing was involved in developing the brand identity around that product, as well as its packaging. Currently, their team is developing a special advertising campaign focusing on this product only.

We work with 5–6 teammates from SOWA Marketing.

How did you come to work with SOWA Marketing?

We were looking for someone who could support our SMM strategy. For us, it wasn’t important where our partner was located. Instead, we were looking for someone with experience in the oil and gas industry. Initially, we found 3–4 companies with said experience, but we decided to also look for 3–4 other companies that had no oil and gas experience to see if they could come up with new ideas.

Ultimately, we shortlisted 5–6 different companies, including SOWA Marketing, and had interviews with all of them. We really liked SOWA Marketing’s proposal for the project; the way they presented their proposal and prepared their quote impressed us a lot.

In addition to a PowerPoint presentation and a PDF document with the quote, SOWA Marketing also prepared a video showing the strategy they recommended for us and our market. We also really liked their past work and how they had brought those companies to the level we wanted to be at, so we started working together.

We started working together in April 2022, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

As previously mentioned, ours is a very niche product, so getting to the right decision-maker within large oil and gas companies is very difficult. Thanks to SOWA Marketing’s SMM services, we’ve awakened the interest of those decision-makers to use our products. 

When we started working together, we had around 1,500 followers on LinkedIn. Within 6–7 months, SOWA Marketing helped us reach 5,500 followers, which was a big success result for us. Additionally, we’ve increased the number of impressions of our LinkedIn Ads by over 5,000%.

On top of that, SOWA Marketing’s work has helped us win important projects. For every project we win, we receive a six-figure turnover, and we’ve won 3–5 of those projects throughout our engagement. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without their help.

How did SOWA Marketing perform from a project management standpoint?

SOWA Marketing has delivered on time and on budget. Every 3–4 weeks, we exchange ideas about new LinkedIn posts and marketing campaigns. Additionally, every 4–6 weeks, I talk directly to their CEO to adjust our SMM strategy and define the right direction to move forward.

Overall, I’m very happy about working with SOWA Marketing — that’s why I decided to leave this review. They’ve always delivered everything they’ve promised, and we’ve received great value for the money.

Moreover, SOWA Marketing has a great team. For example, they have native German speakers, so they’ve been able to help us with our texts and do interviews with our workforce. Additionally, they have talent with a very good eye for design.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Usually, my approach to projects is to be more aggressive without leaving the safe side. SOWA Marketing could benefit from a more aggressive and active approach to their clients. Still, that’s something I already discussed with them, and I’ve seen that they’re now investing in more LinkedIn campaigns for themselves: Therefore, they might be implementing my advice already.

Other than that, there’s nothing I would change about SOWA Marketing’s work.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you’re looking for help with SMM, I would definitely recommend working with SOWA Marketing. They’ll respect your budget and do what they promise. Still, my recommendation depends on the size of your project. SOWA Marketing is a rather small company, so if you’re a large corporation, they’re probably not big enough to work on your project. Their capabilities are best tailored to small and medium-sized businesses.
