Big Red Jelly has a well-defined process with weekly meetings. They are very clear about the goals for each meeting and keep a good cadence with room to process things without getting bogged down. The process notwithstanding, BRJ generously accommodated us when we needed some extra time to work through one of the process steps.

Use google meet instead of zoom. Haha. Why do I dislike zoom so much??

Big Red Jelly takes into consideration what we want to accomplish in their design. The team’s graphic designers are very good at suggesting what would look good according to what we want to see. Big Red Jelly is very open to suggestions and considers what I want. 

How did Big Red Jelly perform from a project management standpoint?

Big Red Jelly established a timeline at the beginning of the project and has been clear about our team’s responsibilities over this timeline and about which delays would cost us more money — this is very good to know in advance. 

Moreover, Big Red Jelly sends an email with the tasks they’ve completed before our meetings, leading to quick and efficient meetings. We receive a follow-up email after the meeting stating what we’ve just discussed. We communicate clearly with Big Red Jelly, and I know my responsibilities.

We communicate through email and Zoom. Big Red Jelly has also made videos on Loom to go over certain things. We stay on budget because we know what to do, and Big Red Jelly follows their timeline. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m impressed with Big Red Jelly’s young team, who have been very respectful and professional. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything for Big Red Jelly’s to improve — I’m happy with their work.

I recommend potential customers engage with Big Red Jelly when they’re sure they have the time to invest in the website development process. If you can’t keep up with Big Red Jelly’s timeline, it will result in a costly project. I recommend having someone on your team dedicated to completing the required assignments, which include writing content and other tasks.

Overall the experience was excellent. My only area of criticism is that the website build got off to a slow start. There were a couple last minute rescheduling of meetings by the website designer that through my personal schedule off.

Also, the communication process at the start of the website build was not great. Both of those greatly improved towards the end of the project, however. I am very happy with how the website turned out and I consider these issues to be a minor hiccup in my overall positive experience.

I’m the practice doctor at a clinic and am setting up a new business called Sleep Mastery 101 independently, somewhat in conjunction with my medical practice. Our patients will have access to the new business’s website for help with sleep.

I took a course that gave me the idea to create an online course for my patients. While developing a therapy for insomnia, it became apparent that I couldn’t build a website on my own, so I hired Big Red Jelly.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Big Red Jelly has provided me with branding, web design and development, and video production services. They’ve designed my logo; I’ve provided them with my idea of using house cats as a mascot, and Big Red Jelly has worked with that. The team continues working on iterations for different pages and materials. They’ve also incorporated that theme into some PowerPoint slides they’re creating and the website design. 

The team has created PowerPoint templates for the course videos. I’ll record the videos using the slides the team has created. Big Red Jelly has assisted me in editing the slides as needed and will edit the videos once I record them. The videos will be uploaded to a platform that users will access through the website. 

Currently, the team is creating my website’s content and will later start development. Once Big Red Jelly finishes the site around November 2023, they will add the link to the medical practice’s website to give patients access to the sleep therapy site.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The quality of Big Red Jelly’s work is really good, and they’ve been open to using my ideas to develop the logo. Since this is my first time building a website, Big Red Jelly has made my job much easier and enabled me to focus on recording the course videos and presenting the information. Thanks to their work, the final course will be much better. 

Seeing Big Red Jelly’s experts work, they seem effortless to someone like me who doesn’t know how to build a website. Thus, it’s been worth the investment to see a high-quality website get made sooner. The most significant success metric will be seeing a website start to form. Moreover, the team is highly collaborative; they provide good feedback and are open to my feedback. Ultimately, even if the project isn’t finished yet, Big Red Jelly will give my business every opportunity to do as well as possible. 

How did Big Red Jelly perform from a project management standpoint?

Although the project isn’t finished yet, Big Red Jelly is on time according to our timeline. We’ve negotiated scope changes since I requested additional items, such as the PowerPoint templates. Big Red Jelly took out deliverables I didn’t need and exchanged them for the slide templates, which has been hugely helpful and hasn't modified the budget. 

As for communication, we primarily use emails throughout the week; I send them information and images for the website. We also have a weekly video call. Meetings with Big Red Jelly are to the point, going over the goals for the next meeting. 

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Bethany and Ali are great. Ali has been helpful as we get into the nuts and bolts of the project. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Big Red Jelly’s team is eager, friendly, and easy to work with. The combination of their work and attitude has been really impressive. Moreover, their customer service is excellent. For example, I’ve created different slide decks, some left unfinished, and after a call with Ali, she determined which ones we would use within minutes. As a result, I don’t have to go through a cumbersome process to find the materials I’ll use. 

Additionally, Big Red Jelly has done everything I’ve asked for and a little more. For example, when Bethany created the PowerPoint templates, she made a video explaining how to use them. When I emailed the team for more clarification, they also helped me. Ali has gotten me up to speed, teaching me to work the templates well. The templates have been a game changer regarding the videos’ look. 

I’m unsure if the Big Red Jelly team works in the same office, but even if they were miles apart, I wouldn’t know. Their follow-up and handoffs work very smoothly. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Due to my lack of experience creating a website, I’m unsure what they could do better. So far, the process has gone seamlessly.

If you haven’t set up a website before, the investment in Big Red Jelly is well worth it. Working with them will put me ahead of the game by months with a high-quality product, even though I’ve had to do a fair amount of work along with the team. If you have an idea of what you want, your audience, and your purpose, you can work with Big Red Jelly to get your site to look how you want. 

Moreover, Big Red Jelly can also give you input. There have been times when I’ve deferred to them with specific ideas. You can take your concepts to them, and Big Red Jelly can get you where you need to be.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Big Red Jelly initially went to our office and walked us through the process. They learned about our company, asked us questions about our goals, and gave us a rough timeline of the project. Our old website was made using WordPress, but they redid everything on the same platform. 

Their resources worked on the site’s design by considering the features we wanted. We looked up websites that we liked, and they did the same. They pulled inspiration from those websites and designed our site based on them. 

From there, we had weekly calls. As they completed more of the website, we reviewed their weekly work and gave our feedback. After the product was completed, they provided us with training and reviewed everything. 

In terms of features, the website had a photo gallery of our completed projects. The team created a quote request form for generating new business leads. The site also had a contact form and our location while highlighting our services.

We worked with 4–5 teammates from Big Red Jelly, including a build and growth strategist. Their co-founder did much of the web development work.

Moreover, a whole team was assigned to us and visited our office. Overall, they had a more complete package than other smaller teams, which didn’t have as many resources as Big Red Jelly.

The website was only recently finished. We started getting leads from it, but they were hard to track. Anecdotally, everyone from Big Red Jelly was easy to work with and professional. Overall, we were satisfied with the final product.

The team delivered everything we needed, so we were happy with their service. On top of that, they stayed on budget. To communicate, we used emails. They would send videos through emails, and their video updates were always on time.

At present, Big Red Jelly is providing us with hosting and maintenance services. 

Regarding features, people can go to our website and type in the location of our medical spas they want to visit. The site has video content and describes our treatments and products. It also shows all of our service providers and doctors. On top of that, users can use the website to pay bills and set appointments.

We mainly work with two teammates from Big Red Jelly, including Josh (Co-Owner). Our main web developer is Sarah (Integrations Specialist & Web Designer).

I’m a lead department assistant for Southern Reporting, Inc., a court reporting firm located in Columbia, South Carolina. We offer court-reporting services across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.

What challenge were you trying to address with Big Red Jelly?

We needed help with updating our website because it had been a while since we last updated it, so we wanted a new design that would better fit our company’s current state. We felt that our original website was very confusing and had a lot of bad links. Additionally, our website wasn’t collecting the data we needed, and we wanted to find ways to simplify our processes through a new design.

Our overall goal for this project was to simplify our website so that it was easier for new and returning clients to find what they needed. Moreover, we wanted to integrate our resources into that site so that users could access all the information they needed from us.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Big Red Jelly redeveloped our whole website. Our former website was on Wix, so they built us a new one on WordPress. Their team didn’t touch anything related to our branding; they only focused on designing a simpler website. Although they also implemented small SEO tactics, they recommended working with a company that focused on SEO if we wanted to go that way.

Our main goal was to provide our audience with a clearer website, so we requested Big Red Jelly to simplify everything. Thus, they changed every feature to make them clearer. Throughout the process, they worked with us to help us recreate each page based on our older website. They also gave us two options for the color scheme for us to choose from.

As for the main features, they added a dropdown menu where users can access our homepage, our services, and an online scheduling system. Big Red Jelly also added a payment processing feature and a FAQs page.

Before this project, our older website had three different dropdown menus to display our services. Therefore, Big Red Jelly also integrated those menus into one, helped us redefine each service, and made the menu into a bubble.

Additionally, they created forms and implemented them into our website, including an incognito form and FAQ-related form where users can leave additional questions. Big Red Jelly also made it very simple for users to scroll through our website so that they don’t have to scroll down very far.

What is the team composition?

We mainly worked with Mercedes (Build & Support Strategist) throughout the project. Initially, we also worked with another teammate from, who took our first call and introduced us to Big Red Jelly. Once the website was live, we also worked with another teammate who gave us some recommendations and an overview of what to expect in the future.

How did you come to work with Big Red Jelly?

Big Red Jelly came from a referral. Originally, we found one of their partners on Google, and they recommended working with Big Red Jelly. Throughout the vetting process, we were in contact with them multiple times as we were looking at various companies. Initially, their quote was very high, but they were willing to work with us and reduce the quote.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $3,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with Big Red Jelly from around November 2022–January 2023.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Thanks to Big Red Jelly, our website now has simpler pages. Although it took us a while to get to the end result, it was worth it. We really liked the homepage they implemented, as well as the site background and colors we defined, because we felt those made more sense for our company. Moreover, every font size and color fit within that color scheme, which makes our entire website feel very coordinated.

After launching our new website, we noticed that a lot of our clients started using the forms and features Big Red Jelly created, specifically the scheduling and payment processing features. Unfortunately, our visibility on Google decreased, so we’re now trying to find an SEO company to help us with that. Still, we expected a decrease when launching a new website, and we knew that Big Red Jelly’s SEO work wasn’t significant for it to prevent this issue.

How did Big Red Jelly perform from a project management standpoint?

Big Red Jelly set a strict deadline of five weeks to complete the website, and they met it. Throughout the project, we met every week with Mercedes via Zoom to discuss the progress. We also used Google Drive and Google Sheets to manage the content because we had to rewrite all of the content for each page. Moreover, we used Gmail and Outlook to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

From the start, we chose to work with Big Red Jelly due to their friendliness and willingness to work with us around our budget. Moreover, their team was very kind and knowledgeable about what they were doing.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We met every week to discuss the website progress. However, it would have been great if Big Red Jelly updated the website with the new material we provided every week a few hours before each meeting. Oftentimes, we didn’t get to see progress until we were in the actual meeting, so we felt as if those were product review meetings.

This approach wasn’t necessarily helpful in our goal of updating the website and finding what we needed. Thus, it would have been better if we had access to the progress beforehand so that we could provide better feedback on changes needed during those meetings.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Consider the content that you want to include in your new website beforehand and have it ready before working with Big Red Jelly. That way, once you start working with them, they don’t have to way on you for the content to be produced or photos to be taken.
