I am the Project Manager for the Ministry Development Framework (known simply as MD), an initiative designed to scaffold the support and development of Ministry Leaders across the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Australia and New Zealand.

Within these territories there are over 700 churches with a membership of over 61,000, more than 50 schools serving over 16,000 students and more than 10 Aged Care facilities. This combined ministry is overseen by more than 600 Ministry leaders.

What were your goals for this project?

Our ministry leaders work with a high degree of autonomy, in demanding environments, which makes self awareness and development difficult. We had developed a review process which we was being done manually which was taking valuable time away from our senior staff.

Through the MD project, we wanted to automate the Review, Evaluation and Development Planning processes to bring about efficiencies, and also to ensure an error free and transparent mechanism.

TkXel had already worked our South Pacific Division team, and we received a very positive report about them and their work. On this recommendation, and a competitive pricing structure we made the decision to use Tkxel for our project.

Initially we had a discovery call with one of TkXel’s account executives, and then TkXel provided us with a discovery workshop which helped us outline the project requirements and milestones. Once the requirements were finalized, they initiated the development process. After deployment, TkXel also provided us with ongoing support & maintenance services.

The scope of the project included the development of an online reporting system, and a process to help our teams review and develop the competencies of our Leaders. Before this, we could only manage a simple review process at irregular intervals. The MD portal has helped our employees to submit their reports online, and to identify strengths and areas for growth using data summaries and charted results. This has benefited our Ministry Leaders and our Senior Management staff to gain valuable insights into the work and competencies of our leaders - both individually and as teams.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Our goal with this project was to ensure a seamless and transparent competency review system and the application developed by TkXel helped us achieve those desired results.

The automated process enables large amounts of communication and data to be processed, presented and simply stored. The project has also led to a number of additional features which have introduced efficiencies to the way we work across the organisation, including searchable databases, notifications and emails, automated reminders, appointment-setting, and file management which have already benefited our organisation greatly and will enhance the work at each ministry location, the capacity of each ministry leader, and will smooth leadership transitions which are all significant factors for the church.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

After the scope was defined, TkXel shared the Project Wiki with us which contained all the information relevant to the project including sprint details, contact information of team members and deadlines.

Furthermore, they used Trello to track the progress of each task and at the same time ensured complete transparency. They also made available to us an online code repository in case we wanted to review the quality of code ourselves. We appreciate TkXel’s efforts in using all these tools to keep us updated regarding the project details. Their project management was effective in delivering the app well before the stipulated deadline.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We have been working with TkXel since October 2018 (almost a year) and we found their communication extremely effective and professional. They used a couple of software tools to make sure we were up to date with our project progress.

There are few firms who can implement machine learning projects seamlessly. Since our company’s management was already familiar with Tkxel’s engineering expertise, we knew they would be the perfect choice for implementing an AI platform.

Tkxel’s engineering team defined the app architecture using best practices. They chose to use a myriad of tools to support their work, including IBM Watson and Apache Solr functionalities. They used a Django framework to code in Python as well as an AngularJS framework to build the AI platform. They also added an iOS and Android tech stack. The resulting functionalities of the app included monitoring customized indicators and tracking live statistics.

To promote app accessibility, they implemented custom UI components. They wrote an algorithm that will present a user with content they are most likely to engage with first. The platform enables users to refresh and load data asynchronously from a RESTful API and then sort it based on preference. They also added offline access and syncing for all data on the platform.

What was the team composition?

The team held three backend members and one frontend member. There were two mobile specialists, one configuration manager, and two teammates in charge of QA.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Their design ensured a seamless UX for our end users. Visitors can interact with content, set alerts, tag information, take notes, and receive suggestions on relevant information.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Their project management was an immense improvement from other companies we’ve used. They use tools like Slack, Asana, Project Wiki, and Jira to communicate with internal stakeholders. Their collaboration has been seamless and we look forward to working with them again in the future.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their technical prowess is beyond exceptional. The team was in perfect sync, executing our vision into reality. From pre-sales to post-deployment, Tkxel was always there to support us. In addition to their development work, they made valuable suggestions to internal stakeholders.

Then, after receiving feedback from our team, they built a responsive mobile application using React.js and a variety of other backend technologies. Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The web-based platform that Tkxel made has helped our salesforce in meeting their quarterly targets. The product lets our team members focus more on customers and less on menial tasks, and we have found that we can do twice the number of inspections in the same amount of time. We operate in five different countries on three continents, and we now have a product that enables us to do in-depth reporting across each of these geographies.

We had complete visibility into the work that was being done, and all of our queries were answered very quickly. We were also given weekly reports about the status of the project, which helped with communication on our end. 

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We were very impressed with the prototypes that Tixkel delivered. The team built the prototypes within a short period, and they aligned perfectly with our vision. This really set the tone for the success of the project.

Once Tkxel completed the implementation, their team trained our client’s Salesforce users.

The Salesforce customizations fit the needs of our client, who is now able to run reports on all of their data to help make well-informed business decisions. Our business processes have become much more efficient and effective. We have eliminated the hassle of maintaining paperwork and migrating it to Excel. Our clients and employees can now work anytime and anywhere, which has resulted in a more satisfied and productive workforce and relationship with clients.

The team was well-organized. We have worked with several different companies in the past, but it was indeed a joy working with the Tkxel team. It would have been great if Tkxel could have helped us with SEO. However, that service wasn’t one of their areas of expertise.
