We hired ROCKETECH for mobile app development because we needed an MVP to show to our investors.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started with a discovery phase where we laid out the app and the features we wanted. The iOS and Android mobile app was built with Flutter. After the development was completed, ROCKETECH conducted beta testing, where we found a few bugs that they fixed. The team continued to make improvements after the development phase when we had any feedback or new ideas.

We worked with a team of about five people, including a backend developer, frontend developer, analyst, and scrum manager. We also spoke with the CEO of ROCKETECH every two weeks.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The app has been launched in the App Store and the Google Play Store, and we’ve received positive external feedback from users. The work was top-notch overall. We’ve worked with other companies before and have not enjoyed the experience and the outcome as much as we did with ROCKETECH. 

How did ROCKETECH perform from a project management standpoint?

We worked in two-week sprints. The team was extremely professional, and the process was smooth. They used a Scrum framework and were great about outlining the project details. They met all of our deadlines and stayed within budget. We communicated via Slack, Telegram, and phone calls. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They had a great approach and weren’t afraid to push back and ask questions. They got to know the project to make a high-quality product we were happy with. ROCKETECH was highly collaborative and wanted us to work with them, which we appreciated. They were great communicators and were transparent about anything that came up. The team was knowledgeable and helped guide us to make the right decisions.

We engaged Rocketech to implement our vision of a mobile legal education reference tool. Prior to engaging them, our team had prepared a detailed UI blueprint of the app's functionality and aesthetic theme. The scope of work included the implementation of a web platform and backend system through which we could input content. This input, in turn, was to be accessible on our front-end iOS App.

The key deliverables were

1. a functional backend system that stored input which would be accessible by our iOS app
2. the minimum viable product of the iOS app which had a selection of key features, including the ability to bookmark certain types of content, search through certain types of content and the ability to navigate between case content with tap and swipe gestures. The MVP should also allow users to purchase access to more content on a subscription basis.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• The project, being the initial implementation of the company's vision of a legal education app, needed to achieve the functionalities as prescribed by our MVP blueprint by the target launch date. As a content-based app, we anticipated there to be a large volume of content being input through the admin panel on a regular basis, and all the content should remain accessible to a large number of users.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

We were actively in touch with the project manager of the project for updates on the progress of work. The project manager and the developers themselves were responsive to our enquiries and were keen to produce solutions to concerns that we had raised. When there were concerns about work progress or the capacity of particular developers, the leadership of Rocketech personally saw that these concerns were addressed.

Post-launch, the team was flexible and responsive to dealing with updates to the app that were required on an urgent basis (i.e., changes based on feedback from users).

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The current team composition (as of the date of this review) is outstanding. Each member, iOS, Frontend, Backend, QA, Business Analyst (who plays the role of project manager) and scrum master has performed at the highest level. The team is notable for their prompt (almost immediate) responsiveness to our queries. The team has also efficiently proposed and implemented solutions to the various challenges raised during development.

The approach of Rocketech's leadership team is also notable — the CEO actively monitors the project and engages directly with us to ensure that our objectives are being met. Their level of engagement and project ownership is uncommon and greatly valued by us.

Are there any areas for improvement or something ROCKETECH could have done differently?

During the development of the MVP, we were served by two different compositions of developers. The second composition, which we have now, is absolutely impeccable (back-end, front-end, iOS, QA, team manager and scrum master). The first composition had room to improve in terms of their intra-team communication. Ideally, these issues would have been identified and dealt with more expeditiously.

I was provided with a highly skilled team with relevant experience. The team included skilled included both a skilled project manager and scrum master, but also regular interaction/oversight from the firm's CEO. Rocketech has developed proprietary software as a management overlay that gives transparency to the efficiency and deliverables of the team members. This negates a longstanding issue with outsourcedsoftware developmentwith regard to uncertainty of who is doing what and when.

All technical work is optimal. If anything, less interaction on the ongoing contract docs might be easier, but II also know that many larger firms love this level of detail.

We came to ROCKETECH after unsuccessful cooperation with a previously hired team of developers. We have struggled with the development of an ML model for our project based on the processing of images with AI. We have a very complex startup and Rocketech started work on Proof of Concept. We are working with BA and DS engineers that together testing different flows and Data that we are providing from different sources.

The initial expectation was to get an accuracy of at least 50% for the first stage of testing, but we got a much higher result. ROCKETECH provided 82% Accuracy. Now are expanding our cooperation with the allocation of extra teams for the mobile app for our future expansion.

Partnership with some data storage provider, we have spend some significant amount at AWS and possible it could be less if there is this kind of cooperation between them Singing act of works happens too many times, it should be more flexible

I’m a former executive of Imbiber, an app and website where people could subscribe to a cocktail club. These subscriptions included getting promotional information about different events from the curated list of providers enlisted in this app.

What challenge were you trying to address with ROCKETECH?

When we started, our engineering resources were very limited, and our goal was to launch our MVP. Thus, we hired ROCKETECH to help us out.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, we had a lot of conversations with ROCKETECH to help us understand what an MVP should include. We started this project with the idea of doing everything we had in mind at the same time, but they guided us in understanding what modules would be the most important ones to include.

Throughout this discovery process, ROCKETECH covered different aspects of the app, including its design, the logic behind its code, and our core business functionality. From there, they started working on a prototype using a tool similar to Figma. This prototype included all the different screens and the logic flows that connected everything together.

Once we approved the prototype, we met again with ROCKETECH to discuss the timelines for the development and agree on the process, after which they started with the actual development. As for the technology stack, they used React Native to create an iOS app.

This app allowed affiliate bars to create their profiles and add cocktails information, pictures, descriptions, working hours, and more. Additionally, subscribers could access our partners’ list to find a bar. This app also had a customized map with our brand colors where users can find recommendations for bars to visit in different cities. The partners' list also included the distance the bars are from the user, who could also see small cards for each bar showing their featured cocktails and their bartenders.

In addition to finding bars, users could also create a profile, pay a subscription, and share promotional codes. If a user shared their promotional code and someone else subscribed, that user got a discount for their next subscription. These discounts were cumulative, so users could even get a free subscription by sharing their codes. Additionally, they could personalize their promotional codes, adding their names or other details.

Users with active subscriptions got a free cocktail every day. When they got into a bar from our partners’ list, they could activate their benefit and had five minutes to show the bartender their free-drink promotion. Then, the app locked that feature until the next day, when they could go to a bar and order a free drink once again.

What is the team composition?

We worked with a project lead who acted as our main point of contact, a web developer responsible for the desktop version and the backend development, a frontend developer responsible for the integrations, and an iOS developer responsible for the mobile version. From time to time, an engineering lead joined the project to solve questions about functionality and other technology queries.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $11,000–$12,000 for the development project. Initially, we paid around $1,000 separately for the prototype because we were deciding whether to hire internal developers or work with an agency.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together around December 2016, and ROCKETECH finished the project in late March 2017. Still, we had some follow-up meetings with them to fix minor things. Currently, I’m working on other projects, and ROCKETECH has reached out to see if they can help me out. After 5–6 years, I still have their support, which is great.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The app developed by ROCKETECH successfully worked as intended, which was the key result. Other results depended more on the business side and the way we promoted the app. Still, we had up to 500 active users at one point. However, about a year ago, we left Russia, so we had to stop the project.

How did ROCKETECH perform from a project management standpoint?

Initially, we agreed on the scope of work because we had a limited budget, so we didn’t want ROCKETECH to ask for more money if something took them more time than expected. They followed that scope of work exactly as agreed upon. Although I don’t know if they exceeded their estimations, they never complained about it, so I hope this project was profitable for them.

Throughout the development process, ROCKETECH sent us weekly screens to review the project’s progress. The only bugs we faced were when we were trying to create customizable promotional codes. This feature stopped working, making the codes non-customizable. However, ROCKETECH quickly came in and fixed the issue, bringing the feature back.

As for collaboration tools, we used Jira for project management, as well as Telegram for immediate communication. On Telegram, we had two different chat groups; one for engineering discussions and one for project management. Additionally, we had weekly calls to discuss the project status, share screens, share information, and assess the progress.

What did you find most impressive about them?

ROCKETECH’s understanding of our app and its needs was outstanding. They were accommodating to our requests, which was very important because they had the expertise to do it so. Ultimately, they delivered very good value for the money.

Are there any areas they could improve?

When things weren’t as expected, ROCKETECH told us they needed more time but never clearly explained what was happening. They simply told us that they were looking into the issue. It would have been great if they had provided us with more technical explanations about the issues they found. Still, given the size of our project, I believe that they rather spent more time fixing those issues than giving us technical explanations, which is understandable.

Be open and listen to ROCKETECH’s expertise throughout the entire development journey. They can provide you with really good advice, and they’ll be able to help you.

I’m the founder and CEO of a mobile marketplace for exchanges of services.

What challenge were you trying to address with ROCKETECH?

We wanted to develop our app but didn’t have in-house developers. Initially, I started developing the app myself, but I had to focus on other aspects of the business, so we decided to hire a partner with a deeper knowledge of iOS development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

ROCKETECH has been developing our app. After our initial conversation, we had a discovery phase before kicking off the development process. During this phase, I provided them with a rough sketch of the app built on iOS and some design schemes I had created. Their team took my input and started building our mobile app from scratch, and they were also in charge of the graphic design involved.

The app will be available for iOS and Android. It is a mobile marketplace that uses geolocation to provide services and make exchanging services between users easier.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with a scrum team of around 10 people from ROCKETECH. This team includes two consultants, a business analyst, 3–4 frontend and backend developers, a graphic designer, some testers, and a compliance officer.

How did you come to work with ROCKETECH?

I read a series of reviews using Clutch and other sites to evaluate different development teams, and I started contacting those teams one by one. I discovered ROCKETECH’s reviews on Clutch. Then, I went to their website and saw great information there, so I decided to approach them.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $55,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We got in touch with ROCKETECH in January 2021, and they started working on the project in February 2021. We have an ongoing relationship with them, but our project is currently on pause.

ROCKETECH has provided us with a very good quality of work. They have a very good team, and they’ve done a great job with the designs. We already have an MVP version of the app finished and with some downloadable content. However, we haven’t finished the app yet due to some overages, so I don’t have my business running.

How did ROCKETECH perform from a project management standpoint?

ROCKETECH is not careful with our budget. Initially, we were budgeted for one amount, but that budget kept increasing, which is why we decided to pause our collaboration. They told me the app would cost a certain amount of money, and although I’ve already paid that amount of money, I don’t have anything yet.

What did you find most impressive about them?

ROCKETECH has a strong and knowledgeable team, and they seem to know what they’re doing.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only downside of working with ROCKETECH has been the lack of transparency. The initial estimates weren’t accurate, which is why we haven’t been able to finish the project. We expected to have the app finished by February 2022, but we only have some designs and a somewhat usable software piece. I know that software development is an evolving process, but we were promised an app for a certain amount of money, and we don’t have it yet.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be very vigilant about the features and budget list they provide you with, and have them compromise on delivering a finished product for the amount budgeted. Additionally, keep a close eye on additional expenditures they bill you for.

I had specific ideas for what I wanted, but a lot of details had to be worked through. I'm a one-man show so I needed a team who could interpret my vision, break it down into individual steps and then execute it.

I was looking for a mix of technical ability and value. I wanted to feel like I was in good hands. After speaking with Alex, I felt like he understood the scope of work and I had confidence that his team could execute the vision.

During the discovery sprint I walked through all of my requirements with the business analyst, Yulia. Each piece of the website was handed over to a designer and we worked through the designs until they were approved. We decided to use Twilio for the calling and texting services. Yulia broke down each item into tasks for the developer. Since then, it has been a process of making decisions regarding specific functionality and reviewing the work of the developers.

I primarily worked with the business analyst, Yulia, although I attended sprint reviews with the whole team.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Having had no experience with development, the process was longer than I imagined. But, looking back I also don't think it could have been completed any faster. The website is currently in a beta stage while we are addressing CRO issues. But I feel like the process is strong and I know that when they complete the tasks they agree to and I have confidence in the integrity of the product.

Rocketech recruits talent and deals with absolutely everything on their end. They set up all the project management software and track everything. I follow along, and use my own tools as well, but I usually communicate verbally. (or Telegram)

They are very organized even when I am not. They keep the trains running on time and they are able to translate my ideas into reality.

I think we were all optimistic when we started the project about the amount of time that it would ultimately take.

Within six month we managed to deliver a ready-to-go product and integrate it into our systems. We keep on developing several modules after initial product release

Project manager keeps in contact with us 24/7 delivering the results of the tasks and collecting feedback from us and our customers. Once in two weeks we have a full team gathering delivering to us the result of a certain completed scope of works.

ROCKETECH specialists work as your dedicated team as if they are directly hired by your HR manager. During the lifecycle they are fully devoted to your project that leads to better understanding of the product and the product owner and better performance as a team itself.

There is always a space for improvement but I can not recognize what could be done here :)
