How did your relationship with the vendor evolve?

Brainium Information Technologies’ work did not meet our expectations, and they were not honest in the quotes they provided. We worked with their developers, and they had access to the code, but during the process, our developer vanished. This developer had everything, so we had to bring in someone new, and they had to rebuild everything. 

Their team is not customer-centric, and all of our data is gone. We paid them in advance, and they did not complete the job for us. 

In what specific areas can they improve?

They have very weak processes in place regarding data, security, and ethical integrity. One of their employees took our code and left because they didn’t have security measures in place. 

How was project management handled?

We tried to reach out to our project manager because they took money from us and didn’t deliver. They were unresponsive and were not open to any ideas we provided. 

What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?

We wouldn’t recommend anyone engaging with Brainium Information Technologies, but if you do, you should ensure they prove they can do the work before you give them any money.

We approached Brainium Infotech to provide a redesign of our website as an entry point for customers into our LMS. The homepage is meant to capture and convert visitors into paying customers. Once registered, they will gain access into our custom-built LMS, which Brainium is also designing. Teachers will also use the "Teacher" version of the LMS, which will also have full functionality and integration with Zoom, where live video classes will take place. 

Classes are pre-paid through packages of tokens which can be used to pre-book classes. The entire scope of the project has been split into several milestone deliverables, based on percentage of completed functionality of the entire property.

• The second phase of this project has shown strong leadership and organization skills at the management level. The development team is dedicated and open to communication. They seem to understand the needs of the project and have shown an ability to find solutions to facilitate best practices.

This project has had two phases of development. The first phase did not demonstrate an acceptable level of management in our opinion. Since the appointment of a new project manager, there has been a significant uptick in output and quality of work. The new manager has been extremely responsive to the project's needs.

For a medium-sized development firm, they seem focused on providing customized services to their clients.

As we have mentioned, the project has had two distinct phases of development. We feel that if the project had kicked off under the current leadership, the overall experience would have been even better.

Project Manager was acting as project oversight. Our team works directly in close collaboration with the web developer. This model worked extremely well for us.

The team communicated very clearly at all times and delivered outputs quickly.

There was a small miscommunication about the style of some CTA button. Hence web developer used one type button from the designs, which we then changed to the right type. But this was purely a gap in our own communication.

The site was last designed in 2012 since then I didn't change the software or any technology by now 2022 it was vulnerable and outdated due to ever increasing cyber threat, This triggers me to find any alternative which I found after consulting with Brainium to redesign the site and at the same time increase the traffic.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Since I knew Clutch earlier due to its authenticity and genuine review without delay, I searched for web development company based in India and after long search I found Brainium is best that suits for me from the point of view of technology, skill, expertise and cost effectiveness.

After contacting them we had some initial discussion on WhatsApp. After two or three meetings we finalize the contracts, deliverables and launching dates and started the project in Sept. 2021.

The team was lead by Mr.Swetabja and I think quiet a few designers, network engineers and web developers were working at different levels of the project.

Since the site had already an in built traffics, I found a significant increase and feedback about the new design of the site having provided the new Bookstore and multilingual Download Sectiion which helps the disciples to download their choice of books at their personal equipment. That was the mission which I was intended for.

Nothing that much special very simple we were using WhatsApp and email for exchanging the site pages and approval if needed we had VDO call for some minutes to deliver what I expect to some particular pages. Although there was time difference of 10 and half hrs. between New York and Kolkata but that didn't appear to be any hinderance in the project.

Since it was developed on new software and technology, so they provided me admin training and some tips of managing at background and best part is that they have assured me that they will provide lifelong service as the intent of the site is for betterment of Humanity and good cause.

As we know technology always surprises you so does with us. We had some cache issue with the hosting after launching but that was gradually fixed by consulting with hosting company.

We needed to build mobile and web applications for iOS and Android.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had two separate projects with Brainium Information Technologies. They had to build everything from scratch, except the design. We initially provided everything to them; all they had to do was convert that into a workable product. They chose WordPress as the backbone of the tech stack, built it, and launched the product. Also, they supposedly offered a lifetime warranty on their work, so they’d work on technical support next.

We initially had direct contact only with the project managers. As things started to go downhill, we cut off the middleman and started working with the developers. We had two developers for each project.

I found them on Upwork or a site for web developers.

We spent about $20,000.

We worked together from May 2019–January 2021.

How did your relationship with the vendor evolve?

They tried to work on the issues, but their effort was minimal. We had to keep pushing them to keep working, which is why our engagement was so long. However, they ignored us, so we had to keep pushing them and complain nonstop. They’d do a little bit of work, but that work would be wrong, and we’d be the ones who’d catch that.

How did Brainium Information Technologies address the challenges that arose?

In summary, they did the bare minimum. When we complained about something not working, they would tell us they would fix it because they knew they were doing the bare minimum.

Describe the impact this engagement has had on your business.

The mobile app was so bad it just had to be scrapped. We never used it. Brainium Information Technologies promised it’d take three months to do it, and it took a year to complete it. However, we had to push them constantly; they made constant errors and never tested anything. After a year of telling them it was wrong, we just gave up and never launched it.

How was project management handled?

It was terrible. We had to speak directly with the developers because the project managers didn’t do anything. We’d say something to them, and they didn’t relay the messages to the developers properly. Everything took forever because the project managers were worthless, so we cut them off and tried to work directly with the developers.

In what specific areas can they improve?

They have to improve their communication. The team wasn’t upfront, and they didn’t tell us about progress. We’d wonder what was going on with an update, and then they would reply that they had launched it two weeks ago. We’d go back and look at what they did, and it’d be wrong — this happened multiple times.

In summary, the communication was terrible. They would do things without talking to us about it, and when we looked at the work, it was completely wrong because they didn’t ask any questions.

What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?

Don’t work with them; read the negative reviews. I went back and looked at the negative reviews, and they listed the same issues we had. Brainium Information Technologies seems nice and friendly, but they don’t work. You constantly have to hassle them, and the process takes so long that you eventually become the project manager.

Therefore, know that they’ll do the bare minimum if you come into this. If you want to work with them, you’ll have to be the project manager, and it should only be a small scope.

Thanks for your feedback. I understand your concern. What I didn't understand is that we finished the website 3 years back. And finished the app 1.5 years ago. Both of them are still uploaded to the server and making businesses.

You were very happy with the website/app when we developed it.

And we made so many functional enhancements after delivering the final website. The functional enhancement comes when someone gets positive feedback or is happy with the overall performance. The review of 0.5 rating doesn't imply the same! We always got genuine feedback from all we served and will expect the same in the future.
