Citrusbug Technolabs helped us launch MVP versions of features for our web portal, our main platform for campaign management.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We interviewed many agencies via Upwork. We sent paid code tests to each of them. Ultimately we liked Citrisubug's results, their price point, and their communication.

Django frameworks for web development. Their team worked under the management of our lead developer. We would assign them tickets via Jira along with final designs, and they would build out these features. The features they worked on were largely features that could be developed separately and then plugged in, like chat.

Ishan Vyas, lead deveoper and co-founder. Rahul, junior developer. And a designer from time to time.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We worked with them for two years, so the results were good as far as MVP deliverables. They understood the scope and were able to complete tasks in a timely manner and were also very communicative. However they didn't always have scale in mind when building, and didn't always take into account the size of our database. They worked in a separate testing environment, and there was a lot of trial and error when something moved into a live environment.

We used slack, and we had daily standups (15 minutes) via google meet. They sent daily updates for their work and emailed weekly reports as well. They worked in a different timezone, though. So they were mostly online when we signed off.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They have many of their own resources and operate very independently, making them fairly low maintenance. They always delivered on time, and what they delivered was largely functional. They were also great communicators, able to chat via video daily.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

It's important to ensure you're giving them enough tasks, as they bill full time hours regardless of the amount of work assigned to them. Some weeks their productivity was not as high although the same number of hours were being billed, because we did not keep an eye on assignments.

Quality control and frequent communication is still very important with this team. They will be outstanding if you are being very clear with frequent communication, but their output and quality will be lacking if you aren't. Also always remind them that something needs to be built for scale, or they will more use a strategy that works for MVPs.

My company is a start-up and is web-based. I needed a team of experienced/talented web developers to create the custom e-commerce site that I had envisioned. My site has not launched yet and I work with Citrusbug daily to bring it to life. Working with them has been a relief and real pleasure.

They listen to what I want and deliver! I am a perfectionist and can be pretty demanding. I also have some unique ideas, and because I do not have a tech background, they help me to understand what can be done and the most efficient way to do it.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I did interview several vendors. I asked them each the same set of questions. What I liked most about this vendor was their responsiveness. Not only were they prompt with their responses, but they answered my questions completely -- leaving nothing out. Even though I have been their customer for over a year, they still operate in this manner. Their pricing and skills and willingness to do things my way were also deciding factors in choosing them.

This team is very professional. I told them what I wanted, sent them some drawings and an overall idea of what I had in mind and they got back to me with a UX/UI design. My background is not in tech, so I can't be too specific about the technologies they have used, but that is what else is so great about them -- they are the experts and make these decisions for me.

I am not one to put all of my eggs in one basket, so I actually hired an adviser to review their work as well. The adviser gave them the green light. As for deadlines, they have met all deadlines that I have given them.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

The main man, Ishan, is my favorite. He is the coordinator of all work. Most of the time, he understands exactly what I want (very smart and insightful) and makes sure that the rest of the team understands as well so that no time is wasted. I have worked with 5 or 6 of them, and they have all been very friendly and dedicated to doing what I need them to do. I really just can't say enough about them. Jayendra does the coding and Bansari does is QA person. They really are great!

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Our site hasn't launched yet, but there is no question that we are building a unique site that will have great value. Day by day it is really coming together! I have many phases of this site planned, and we will launch after Phase 1 is complete.

I message Ishan through an instant messenger and he responds promptly -- often even after hours. We have a Zoom call once a week (sometimes more if there is something pressing), and we go over the work that has been done and discuss any adjustments that need to be made and discuss the next tasks to be completed for the week.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They have yet to tell me no. What I mean by that is that I have yet to stump them with any request. Their knowledge must be pretty vast.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Not really. So far, so good. I have even brought outside "team members" in from time to time (a few other web developers, designers, and such) and they have been accepted and even welcomed into the loop. These collaborations are very important to my future success and I hope that they keep up the good work where that is concerned.

We did several interviews, did some project reviews and started out with a small clear code base to see how they approached the business. Good code, clear communication as well as good pricing made us choose Citrusbug the vendor for us.

We started out with a small project to see how code was delivered and communication went. We had two week sprints with project communication by Skype. Citrusbug gave daily updates on work done and also weekly summaries.

We had good deliverables, daily and weekly updates of work. Some of the projects and sprints were complex features and unclear at our end. Most of the time this went well on the delivery part.

Over time the complexity became bigger and we lost the connection in the translation, thus creating problems in the output. With a decline in work on our customers end, we ended the outsourcing of code.

We used Jira for the backlog, GitHub for code releases and sharing and Skype to communicate. We did two weekly Skype meetings for sprint reviews.
