Overall, SEQATO delivered the project very effectively. One area for potential improvement could be providing even more proactive documentation during early stages, which might have helped internal teams ramp up faster. Seqato is responsible for developing the entire platform. We have built a multi-sided marketplace which can cater to customers, chefs and also delivery partners. This makes little complicated as its a 3-sided marketplace. We are probably one of the very few company where a single app can switch users among 3 stakeholders. We also asked Seqato to build a website for our company which is informational and also functional for new customer and chefs requests. 
Finally we wanted an admin portal to manage the entire backend operations of our company. Our application is developed in Flutter - a progressive web app which helps the users to open not only on phones but also on tablets/ipads etc. Moreover a single app with various interfaces for different types of users made it little difficult to implement good secured business rules. 
Hence we implemented a single sign on function and with many secured rules for hackers not to be able to get pass our log on api. Seqato did a good job. 
The key deliverables were 

• Fully functional ( not with all features as its an ongoing cycle ) android and ios app. 
• A standalone website and a fully built admin portal to manage the entire backend functions. 
• Our ios app has a customer interface which handles the listing of chefs, food items, filters, ordering process, integration with payment gateway, google location api to show customers their current location, accurate delivery address, profile management, order history, review process etc. 
• a chef interface to show the orders received, do order management, add, manage, publish, update and delete menu, profile, invoices, orders history etc. a delivery partner to get order assigned, track location, show delivery tracking functionality, invoice generation, history etc. 
• An admin portal to manage all the configutrations related to customers view, tax, local laws, chefs menu approval, delivery tracking, order management etc. This is the most complex part as it captures more than 200 configuration parameters. Seqato did a good job and I am really happy. Website which is informational. Orients depending on the device screen size. Decent one which looks nice and very professional.

90-95% of the time seqato was on time. Few times, there was delay due to dependencies from requirements side or dependency on 3rd party software. Otherwise they did their best not to miss a deadline.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The team is very approachable. Especially their leadership team takes accountability and transparent regarding their team and work. It was easy to communicate and as a small company we needed that customized and personalized touch. I think we found that with Seqato. We had sometimes difficult times, however seqato team was there and they never made us feel alone. 
They were there to support our business and due to that relationship, we are growing and still becoming stronger in the market. I wish Seqato to keep up the same spirit and same energy for all customers like they did for us. I am happy and would recommend them.

Are there any areas for improvement or something SEQATO could have done differently?

They did a wonderful job. However at times, knowing that they are small players as compared with other Indian tech giants, we did have to wait sometime to find the right team leader in the beginning. But later on they added the right team leader and our project went smooth. In their defence, I think covid restriction also played a huge role in hiring the right team leader when we started the project. 
The team leader plays a very important role and initially that part was missing for couple of months but they did provide good technical resources who could run independently but as we were dependent on them completely, we needed a team leader. I think once they added that person, everything went smooth and we have a good dev and support model which is a long lasting model for our business. 
So, I would recommend them to add more architects and leaders to their teams. Good thing is that Seqato takes ownership and that helps us as a customer that we dont have sleepless nights regarding our business.

Tasks were allocated within our existing project management mechanisms and deleted to Seqato engineers. They assigned a lead engineer who help co-ordinate with their engineers. After a few weeks, SEQATO engineers were seamlessly assimilated into our team, requiring little hand-holding for their assigned activities.

Given that the entire project was virtual, Seqato engineers and their account representatives were very quick to respond and understand the deliverables.

DI Decision-Intelligence GmbH is a company that supports business leaders with their strategic decision-making needs via access to frameworks and human intelligence. I'm a co-founder at the company, and I also happen to lead our platform development efforts.

Our company is in the process of building a platform. We handed SEQATO the challenge of building a web application consisting of two consoles (or modules), each of which was able to operate multiple management frameworks.

Our aim was to provide decision-architects and their teams with a practical means to operate and combine insights from multiple management frameworks, in order to improve the quality of insight they had about a specific industry and/or market.

How did you select SEQATO and what were the deciding factors?

We learned about SEQATO via a mutual collaborator. SEQATO won us over with their demonstration of flexibility, perseverance, and the willingness to try new ideas, technologies, approaches and techniques out. We didn't want to be limited to preconceived ideas.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

The scope of work involved requirements gathering, user interface design, mock-ups, prototyping and integration with a services back-end. We worked iteratively, in short sprints lasting a few weeks at the start of which a backlog was updated and selected from.

The entire web application was written using the ReactJS library, NodeJS as a runtime, and some supporting libraries.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

For the most part of the project, we had 2 SEQATO engineers working with us - one of whom played the role of a project manager, and other as the lead developer. Both of them had multiple years of experience in building complex web applications.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

For starters, we now have a functional web application with two consoles, and workflows defined for 3 commonly used management frameworks. To this day, we still continue to add/improve our codebase.

This is our third iteration of product development (prior to our engagement with SEQATO), and we were hence able to combine our experience with SEQATO's to get to our goal.

We're satisfied with what we've been able to achieve in a short span of time and limited resources.

SEQATO tends to adapt well to client needs, practices and timelines. We had rather strict product-related goals, but we were fairly flexible with timelines and how the project was managed.

We began with an informal style of management involving live whiteboard sessions, conference calls and quick iterations. In due course, we switched to using JIRA's agile dashboard to manage our backlog, Q&A, documentation and information sharing (e.g screen videos).

When the pandemic struck, we relied on Zoom for all our interactions.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I would say resilience and continuity in the face of adversity, focus on long term partnerships and value-creation and not on short-term profits and gains. SEQATO likes to play the long innings, and that suits our style and needs well. In fact, we continue to collaborate on a joint vision.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Hindsight is always 20/20. Both SEQATO and us agree that we could have spent more time improving the quality of our requirements gathering, on software architecture design, on coding standards and testing methodologies.

Rather than this being an indictment of SEQATO, these are lessons that we have jointly learned. Sometimes, in the course of developing a product, both the customer and the dev team could easily lose sight of the fact that in addition to product goals, there also more intangible yet equally important process-related goals.

The website was successfully migrated and updated. All the malware issues were fixed. Today, the website is fully secure and we have not had any malware issues!

Very! The Seqato team is very responsive and communicative, and it is a pleasure to work with them.

I manage most of the project, like tracking and estimations, but they manage my expectations very well. Our written communication is pretty good and they offer proactive, timely responses. The project leads are good at communicating with us, and any language barrier with the developers has never impacted the work. Every meeting has teammates who can speak effectively.

They’re great. Even though I’m not their biggest client, I haven’t noticed anything negatively impacting our relationship. They’re a growing team full of reliable, transparent people who don’t make false promises.

Improving their pool of resources to diversify their work a bit more could help, especially if a certain technology is needed that isn’t very popular and needs ramping up time.

SEQATO also uses data technologies such as Kafka, MyWPI, and MySQL, among others.

SEQATO was instrumental in the growth of our company. When we began working with them, we had three customers — now, we have 16. They've provided dashboards that are updated weekly by our project managers and theirs. These dashboards track achievements of individuals as well as key metrics and schedules.

Communication is fantastic. We discuss updates, requirements, and progress. Sometimes, we run into some challenges but SEQATO does a good job overall — especially with the time difference.

Their team has a great attitude. They’re responsible, cooperative, and have excellent teamwork. SEQATO has helped us a lot.

Are there any areas they could improve?

One area they could improve in, and I’ve mentioned it to them, is management. The leads need to have better management and communicate to those working under them so changes can be implemented more smoothly. SEQATO has improved a lot over the course of the engagement.

Make sure to interview their team members before onboarding them to ensure they’re the right fit. The team is good at product development. What’s more, the leaders of the company are great, maintaining good company culture.

I’m a co-founder of two startups in India. One is an animal IoT startup, and the other is a weather startup.

What challenge were you trying to address with SEQATO SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS?

We’re experts in building models, but we’re not experts with using IT systems on the backend. Therefore, we wanted support with backend development. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had to build a full administrative backend of the IoT devices we’d built. 

For the weather network, we used SEQATO to build some of the apps and functionalities. The apps were developed as hybrids on Flutter. SEQATO worked on some of the backend assets, including helping us develop the admin backend.

For the animal IoT, we have an ecosystem consisting of an Apache Camel brokerage system that sits between the IoT devices and the backend. The backend is based on Geospatial Hadoop. The product was done on Kotlin for Android. We also created a messenger module that acts as a broker for the data coming in from the animal IoT devices.

The app is a cattle tracker. It looks at the behavioral aspects of the animals–whether they’re standing, sitting, feeding, or ruminating. Farmers use a single app that provides information on the herds. The herd population can be anywhere between 2–100. The app synthesizes all the data required by the farmer.

I believe there were four people assigned to the animal IoT project. There’s a team of seven developers working on our weather network apps.

I’ve known SEQATO for almost a decade. I’ve known Robin (Co-Founder & CEO) since before he was with SEQATO. I was working in the oil and gas industry in the UAE, and we had a specific development project. Robin was the team lead at the company we worked with. When he started SEQATO, I continued to work with him. 

We’d tried another developer in Chennai because of some non-commercial interests, but that engagement failed, and Robin came in and rescued us.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve had no major issues as of now. 

The animal IoT app is a B2B tool so its hard to measure success because downloads don’t matter as much as they do with B2C apps. We’re focused on working with animal feeds experts and cooperative organizations. 

The launch date for the weather app is June 1, 2020. We’ll be tracking metrics for it, as it’s a B2C app.

How did SEQATO SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS perform from a project management standpoint?

No project is without slip-ups, but SEQATO’s overall development and project management are well structured. That’s pretty rare to find, so we’re happy. There are hiccups, but they’re not end-of-the-world hiccups.

What did you find most impressive about them?

When it comes to telecom and big data, there’s a lot of expertise within SEQATO, which has been built over time. There are a lot of companies out there that can do development, but it’s very tough to find experts on backend development. I think that that’s where SEQATO stands out.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could work on reducing their cost and mitigating staff turnover. Overall, I’m satisfied in terms of delivery and extremely satisfied in terms of the quality of work and timeliness.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

It’s important to play to SEQATO’s strengths, which, from a vertical perspective, are more on the telecom side. They have a very good backend team and understand the critical operational and tactical work. Clients can call upon SEQATO knowing that they’ll burn the midnight oil and make sure that the work gets done.
