Pacific Infotech UK Ltd was given full responsibility for our rebranding, and they certainly took their time with it. They conducted countless interviews with community stakeholders, board members, the mayor, customers, tenants—pretty much anyone they could get a hold of, including stevedores. Yet, despite all these conversations, their findings were mostly just restating the obvious: our strengths and weaknesses.

Instead of focusing on real, tangible improvements, they spent an excessive amount of time crafting a so-called ‘verbal identity,’ filled with conversation starters and long-winded messages that didn’t exactly revolutionize how we communicate. Their idea was to tweak our messaging depending on the audience, but the results felt more like generic marketing fluff.

As for the visual identity? That came later, and while it eventually shaped our website, the whole process felt like it dragged on unnecessarily. They also involved just about everyone—our board member, port attorney, directors from multiple departments, and employees—which, while thorough, often made the process feel bloated and slow-moving

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We unveiled our new branding at a business after-hours gathering, inviting a long list of community stakeholders, tenants, customers, legislators, and community leaders—basically anyone who might show up. We walked them through our new logo and verbal identity, and of course, people politely nodded along and said nice things. It’s hard to say if they were genuinely impressed or just being courteous.

Yes, the boardroom was packed—though whether that was because of genuine excitement or just free refreshments is debatable. People complimented Pacific Infotech UK Ltd’s work, but let’s be honest, it’s not like they would have said anything negative in that setting.

As for web traffic and social media presence, there was an increase, but it’s hard to say if that was because of the branding or just the hype of a relaunch. The whole team put in effort, sure, but rather than one standout, it felt more like a collective exercise in making minor tweaks sound groundbreaking."

The team was decent at staying on schedule—if you count sending endless calendar invites as great project management. We had weekly Zoom calls that often felt repetitive, and after each meeting, Patrice would send yet another follow-up, as if we hadn’t already covered everything.

During meetings, they walked us through their work in a painfully methodical way, using a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to track tasks—because nothing says innovation like a basic spreadsheet. They also bombarded us with slide decks to show ‘progress,’ but at times, it felt like they were just dressing up small updates to seem more significant.
