We are a healthcare solutions startup that provides on-demand live consultation that connects patients to cancer specialists, especially in emergencies. As the CTO, I manage all IT-related functions to ensure our website performs correctly.

For what projects/services did your company hire DevTechnosys Pvt Ltd?

The project scope was to design and develop a web-based solution that complied with various medical certifications such as HIPAA. We wanted all of the software developed at once, but it was a large project, so we decided to divide it into different phases. We attempted to hire multiple vendors for different phases but that was a mistake. Since they had a number of professional resources to handle any type of technical project, we contracted DevTechnosys as our sole web and app development partner. 

What were your goals for this project?

We were already involved in various domains, but we wanted to move into the on-demand medical industry as a basic need for people. After several meetings with my partners, we decided to develop this concierge health service. We wanted to be able to charge commission from both sets of users through the live video and audio calling feature. DevTechnosys made it happen.

How did you select this vendor?

We had a challenging time finding a company that had both experience in the on-demand health domain and a good market reputation.  We shortlisted a few companies after initial discussions and met with some of their respective clients. DevTechnosys was among several we felt satisfied and comfortable with, but their instant communication and skillful collaboration ultimately set them apart.  We established a contract to clarify the scope and avoid future misunderstandings and began working. 

Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

Already complete, the first phase included a web portal with health professional and client interfaces like subscription, video and audio calling, and payment and queue waiting systems, among other things. We are currently working on the second phase, which features a clinic-accessible health record management system that allows patients to schedule doctors’ appointments.

What was the team composition?

We were initially assigned six to seven team members, including a project manager (PM), a business analyst, a technical lead, designers, QA specialists, and developers. Although the timeline was somewhat flexible, there were occasions when I found the development process to be a bit slow; I requested some additional resources to expedite things, which they allocated to me at no additional cost. Regardless, every single person on the team was professional, polite, collaborative, and very technically skilled.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Because we have a good clientele and a robust marketing team well versed in many areas, we have not had any trouble promoting this system. Most of our medical clients are using the solution and find it very efficient. In fact, it was our users who requested a mobile application for better patient interaction. We are now working with DevTechnosys to prepare the business model for the mobile application, planning to launch a limited edition with periodic updates.  

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?
The project management was really impressive; every single team member had a superb implementation plan. The Zoho project management system recommended by our PM was very transparent, allowing us to view the responsible person and activity status for all scheduled sprints and tasks. I never experienced any issues with their methodology, as everything was well structured and completed on time. I know first-hand how difficult technical language can make things, but I found them to be very confident in coordinating and implementing complex technical solutions. 

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are a technical business team that understands the industry language and is always ready with a solution. DevTechnosys offers a sales team with a solid technical background in IT, which is fairly uncommon. We were also impressed with their transparent project management strategy. When other companies point to a project’s complexity in order to increase the budget unexpectedly, DevTechnosys truly understands the client’s needs and does not try to undermine project success.

Are there any areas where they can improve?

In today's technical age, IT is advancing by the day; they should adopt more automation so they can accomplish things more quickly.

I’m the founder of an e-commerce company focused on developing countries.

What challenge were you trying to address with DevTechnosys?

I created the eBay-type platform about four or five years ago. I piloted it and just let it run. I was working on other jobs so it was a side hobby for me. But customers loved it and it grew from a small scale. I got to a stage where I wanted and needed to expand it.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

DevTechnosys rebuilt the whole site from my designs. It’s built in PHP with a lot of new functionality based on bespoke coding.

I decided to parametrize the functions to enhance the pricing model. Based on my requirements, they built elements to characterize the items that people order and create different categories for them. They built in an adaptable and flexible way so that I can change the categories as needed to apply different pricing rules.

I had a dedicated project manager who spoke English well and worked with the development team. There was also a primary developer.

How did you come to work with DevTechnosys?

I wanted to redevelop this about a year ago. I tried various providers. I started with one and, after a couple of months, decided they couldn’t do it. I went to another provider and the same thing happened.

I went online to look for developers on review sites. I read reviews, reached out to two companies, and eventually settled on DevTechnosys.

What is the status of this engagement?

They started work in October 2017 and we launch this week.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They really delivered and I checked—they built in modules so I tested very frequently. Once the final module was built, we did comprehensive user acceptance testing. We launch this week.

How did DevTechnosys perform from a project management standpoint?

We mostly use email and Skype to communicate. My calls with them include at least the project manager and developer. They will sometimes pull in other members of their team but I’ve never really interacted with them. They two main contacts are fully dedicated to me and very accessible.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I have very solid commendations for them because they built me something that I really like. I only had a view of what I wanted, written on paper and described as best as possible. They were able to pull it all together very well. I’ll go to them if I have another similar project. They’ll be my first choice.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their English wasn’t 100%, depending on who you work with. It’s not their fault but it means that you have to take the time to explain things.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

The key thing with DevTechnosys is to explain exactly what you want from them. This is true with any developers but more so with them. if you’re able to articulate what you need from them very clearly, they will fulfill those needs.

The difficulty we had when we started was that I gave them a large set of requirements documents and thought that was enough. But I needed to have follow-up meetings with them. After about three or four weeks, they really got it. It became straightforward and easy from that point.

Their performance is dependent on the person who gives them the job. If you engage with them, they can deliver within a pretty short timeframe.

I’m the owner of Uberpong. We make custom ping pong paddles, balls, and tables.

What challenge were you trying to address with DevTechnosys?

I wanted a builder on the website that would allow users to design their own custom products. Before, customers would send us images and we had an artist design it for them. Now the customers can do it themselves.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built new design features using PHP, and we use BigCommerce for a backend system. Everything had to be compatible with our previous system. I sent a questionnaire to all the developers before they started, and they answered them very thoroughly. They even sent me a mock-up of what the feature would look like. Early on, they showed a very deep knowledge of PHP. I was upfront about all the requirements for the feature, including mobile accessibility and full design functionality. They showed me an updated version of the feature every day during development, which allowed us to go through changes in real time.

They made a few edits to parts of our site as well. We had to completely update everything, so they updated our home page as well as some inner pages for the feature.

What is the team composition?

I primarily worked with one project manager, and they would liaise with the team of developers.

How did you come to work with DevTechnosys?

I posted on Upwork and outlined the project. I was looking for an agency with experience building custom features. I interviewed about 50 companies and DevTechnosys’s experience made them stand out from the competition. They've done a lot of custom development in the past. That combined with their vast team of developers and series of positive reviews led me to choosing them for the project.

We invested $13,000 on the project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in September 2017, and the feature was completed within 60 days.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It was important for us to complete the project as quickly as possible, due to the fact that we were approaching the holiday season when we started the project. Our second priority was clarity of communication. We needed a very responsive team that could make changes efficiently when we needed them. DevTechnosys met all of those needs.

How did DevTechnosys perform from a project management standpoint?

This team was top notch in their communication. We shared Google Docs all day that outlined necessary edits, and they responded with feedback on a daily basis. They worked hard to deliver high-quality results on schedule. They would always copy four developers on our email correspondence to keep them in the loop. We would also Skype and speak regularly over the phone.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We worked very closely with them throughout the project, and they were easy to work with. I was very happy with their communication, their timeliness, and their friendliness.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We would’ve liked a bit more guidance during the initial phases of the project, perhaps feedback on design based on their previous experience.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I think any potential clients should always have a goal in mind or a scope of work in mind of what they're trying to build and make it as detailed as possible. Specify as much as possible and let them build it out.

They designed and developed our website for us.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built our site using CakePHP, HTML5, JavaScript and MySQL. One of the more practical changes they made was to streamline the login process for vendors and end-users. On the previous version of our site, vendors had to log in on a separate site to manage their products, which was inconvenient.

What is the team composition?

We worked with six people, including a full-time project manager, a developer and a designer, a part-time operational manager, and a QA lead.

How did you come to work with DevTechnosys?

I did an initial search online and reviewed a number of companies. DevTechnosys stood out based on the feedback I read, so I decided to give them a chance.

We started working on the project in August 2017 and we wrapped up at the end of January.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our website is finished, but it hasn't launched to the public because we're waiting for a third company to install the payment gateway for the site, so we don't have any results yet. This isn't DevTechnosys's fault; we've been waiting on this other company for several weeks now. Aside from that, the site is well-built and well-designed. Everyone who's seen it so far has given us positive feedback.

How did DevTechnosys perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project manager was very responsive to whatever issues I had. If I wasn't pleased with how things were progressing, we'd use screenshots to illustrate what changes I wanted so that the communication was clear. They were always available by phone or email and they did a good job of solving problems or building out all the features I needed.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Anytime I had a problem, they were eager to solve it. The site came out better than I'd expected because of this, so I'm really happy.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There were some steps in the process that they could have executed more quickly. Some of the delays were partially my fault because I asked them to build additional features along the way, but the turnaround times were a little bit slow.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Try to communicate as clearly as possible. English isn't my first language, so even though I used email I found it easier to talk to them directly. Also, have a clear idea of what you want and illustrate it if you can so that everyone understands. They'll respond and resolve any problems you have as long as you speak up.

I’m the founder of a digital healthcare company connecting Chinese cancer patients to top U.S. oncologists through a virtual consultation platform. This is the first solution of its kind in China, and we work strictly on a B2B model, collaborating with hospitals in China and the U.S.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with DevTechnosys?

In order to achieve our business goals, we needed a tech platform. My background is in technology, but I didn’t have the skills to code the entire product. I had the vision, but I needed a team to build the platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We worked with a wireframing specialist who created clickable designs based on our requirements. Two designers then created every page of the platform across 3–4 iterations. After that, a database specialist and two developers began working on the actual product.

They used an open-source API called TokBox, which was customized according to our needs. Through it, we can have up to 12 people in a joint conference call for a consultation. It also gives the platform screensharing and chat functionalities. Through an API called FullCalendar, doctors can manage their schedules, and patients can see the available physicians.

The interface is both in English and Chinese. We used a MySQL database, and the overall site is based on AngularJS and Node.js. After finishing the coding, DevTechnosys handled the hosting process for AWS (Amazon Web Services) via a system administrator.

What is the team composition?

We have a six-person team, including a business analyst, project manager (the CEO), team lead, designers, QA testers, and software developers. I worked with one of the developers on a daily basis.

How did you come to work with DevTechnosys?

I looked on Upwork and similar platforms to find an agency. I interviewed 5–6 firms, including Chinese and Indian ones. The biggest factor was communication, and it proved difficult for me to share my vision with some of them.

I got in touch with DevTechnosys’ senior business analyst, who was responsive and understanding. She turned all my needs and requirements into detailed documents within days. In their proposal, they divided the project into 6–7 milestones, mentioned which technologies they’d use, and explained the whole process. They were thorough and convincing, so I hired them.

The total cost has been around $45,000, but it will increase.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with DevTechnosys in June 2017. The main requirements are 90% finished, and we’re already live with active customers. The site launched on January 6th, 2018. The collaboration with DevTechnosys is ongoing, with plans to build artificial intelligence and big data features.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We don’t have any specific data, as of now, that highlights the effectiveness of DevTechnosys’ work.

How did DevTechnosys perform from a project management standpoint?

For ticketing and documentation, they used Zoho, but I prefer the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence, etc.). For the current project, I document everything in Excel on a ticket-by-ticket basis.

I communicate with the CEO on a weekly or biweekly basis and speak to the team lead every other day via Skype chats.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re hardworking and willing to stay late when important deadlines are approaching. During the demo phase, they were in constant contact, in case we needed anything. If we had a tight deadline and needed resources, they’d assign them. Also, this is the first company I’ve worked with that doesn’t accept payment until the work has been approved.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their work is great, but it’s sometimes hard for them to confidently and authoritatively communicate their ideas verbally. English is a second language for both of our teams, which has contributed to this. Working on their communication skills, in general, would help them.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Clients need to put everything down on paper before starting, including what technologies they plan to use. Once you start, it becomes difficult to change. Planning everything well in the first 10–12 days will make it much easier down the road.

Konsulto is in the Dominican Republic. We’re trying to build a platform where doctors and patients can connect. The medical system here is chaotic and there aren’t any platforms you can go on to find facilities in your area. Most places don’t take appointments, and if they do, it’s complicated. We’re trying to fix that.

What challenge were you trying to address with DevTech?

We needed help to develop our healthcare platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built our platform from scratch. It’s web-based, but also works on mobile. There are minor details we’re still working on, but it’s almost complete. They’re using the LAMP coding.

Doctors have a profile to show all their basic information like cost, location, healthcare providers that they work with, and other things that a patient would look for. They would set how many patients they want to get in a day and set their schedule time. We have administrative panels where we can accept the doctors. Doctors have to verify themselves when they sign up. From there, they’ll be able to work on their profile.

On the patients’ side, they can look up the doctors. They have their own profile with their basic information so doctors know who is going to visit them on any given day.

What is the team composition?

I communicated with a sales person, a development manager, and a developer. I don’t know how many people work behind the scenes.

How did you come to work with DevTech?

I searched online for companies that do coding. I looked up 5 or 6 on Clutch and reached out to them. They gave me their proposals. I chose DevTech because of their price, prior work, and what they offered.

We haven’t released the project yet to the doctors. Our friends and family really like it.

They’ve been great. We have a nine-hour time difference, but I don’t really feel it. It’s as if they’re in my time zone. Whenever I contact them in the morning on my time, they’re always available. I have zero complaints. It amazes me since they’re in India. We use Skype and email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re very open to my feedback and when I ask for changes, they respond fast.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Most of the webpages have the privacy policy and terms and conditions. For our page initially, they put those two together. Most websites, they’re separate things. There are some things that I thought were obvious, but I had to tell them.

We’re a startup company. The project I was running is the creation of a mockup for a social application for artists.

What challenge were you trying to address with DevTechnosys?

I needed someone to develop my website mockups. The concept is to work with local organizations like cities and local authorities for allowance processes for artists who play on the streets and so on. It’s a mixed platform between private users and local authorities. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They did the mockup as Photoshop screens according to my specifications of the tool and what it should be capable of. I gave them the description of what the application should be like. I shared some samples of other apps and screens I liked and they put something new together for me. 

It will eventually be a website and an app. Not everything will be running through the app. It’s more that the app will just retrieve the information from the website. They both are required because it has some mobile functionalities like GPS localization services, which are required to make some of the features useful. 

Now I’m working on putting everything together to go and do some fundraising because I don’t want to invest my own private capital in this project. It’s more like a hobby for me. I’m looking for investors and people who are interested in this project. Depending on how the fundraising runs, I’ll put an RFP [request for proposal] out to companies to do actual programming and development.

I found them on Upwork. I checked with multiple companies who did work for me in advance and showed me examples from other projects they did. I picked DevTechnosys because I had a good talk with them. The communication was much better than with some of the other companies.

They finished the mockups. We had planned to finish in 3–4 months, but it took much longer mainly because of me. I didn’t have as much time as I had planned to invest in the project. I told them to take their time. They delivered when I asked them for work. 

How did DevTechnosys perform from a project management standpoint?

The specifications described the functional requirements of what I had in mind. They didn’t include the look and the design of the screens. The project was all done through the regular calls we had the exchanges through Skype. We mainly worked through Upwork and exchanged files there. Every time I requested a meeting or a call, they were available. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They did exactly what I told them to do. They effectively delivered what I asked them to. They’re really flexible and open to making changes. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They listen to my feedback, but there’s not a lot of their own initiative or creativity. The ideas have to come from the client. This is where I expected a bit more, but as soon as I understood that that’s how they work, it was fine with me to take care of it. It’s a cultural issue that you have to be aware of. I would have appreciated more direction and inputs from them than everything coming from me. I can’t blame them because they did what they promised. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You have to be very specific in what you expect and what you want to get. Otherwise, it would take you more time and you’d have to do more iterations. They’re very flexible and open.

I’m the co-founder and director of a startup IT company.

What challenge were you trying to address with DevTech?

I wanted to establish a platform for freelancers that is purely dedicated towards Sri Lankan freelancers. The website is a freelancing platform. There is an educational portal as well so that education providers can advertise their education and courses. They can use the same platform to promote education across the country and enhance the skills of the freelancers as well.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, they came up with all the wireframes. They built the website using the latest version of PHP and used JavaScript for technical functionalities. The platform allows freelancers to log in and register themselves and then job providers can log in and post all their jobs. The freelancers could browse all the posted jobs and apply. The job providers would see all the applications and can then award the job. We needed an internal email system. It’s not a simple messaging system but is inside the platform. 

We also wanted to include a section for the educational portal so providers could send their courses to us and we would advertise all those courses on their behalf. Once we attached skills to the courses, the freelancers could view those courses when they log into their profile provided that they have maintained those skills. In addition to the freelancers, anyone can go in and browse all the educational courses and sign up for whatever they want.

What is the team composition? 

There was a business person who got involved in closing the deal, setting up the contract, and setting all the terms and pricing. Then there was a business analyst who came on board. He worked with me in order to nail down the exact requirements and finalize the product. There was also a project manager and a developer. 

How did you come to work with DevTech?

I’m in Sri Lanka and there weren’t many options. I came across DevTech on Upwork. They had a 97%–98% success rate. Based on the requirements and on the pricing they provided, DevTech matched my requirements. I did a background check and ended up selecting them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’ve had good feedback from 1 or 2 people within my close community. We have not gone live yet. 

How did DevTech perform from a project management standpoint?

The project manager was very involved and I communicated directly with the developer. We had a few calls at the beginning to clarify certain areas, but other than that, it was through Skype and email. Whatever I wanted to do, I had to specify it visually in documents and in wireframes and then give the requirements. I maintained the issue list in an Excel format. Communication was easy and it worked well. They’re always available and even worked on Saturdays.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They stuck to the exact requirements that I wanted. Some of the things that we had initially agreed and finalized had to be changed mid-project. They were very flexible in accommodating some of the requested changes. They had experience making freelancing sites and gave us some good ideas in how it needs to be structured. While the project was underway, there were certain things we had missed, and they fixed it up and gave us some points. Considering those points, we had to change what we had initially agreed, but they were flexible with that. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They can improve how they sync with the account team because sometimes the account team follows up on payments before the milestone is completed. Internally, they can improve their project management and finalization of milestones. There can be some improvements in terms of communication and language as well. It’s quite okay, but it can have some improvement.

What was the scope of their involvement?

I gave them a mockup and asked them if they could do it. I told them what kind of layers they had and what should be placed on each page. They took care of the design and the user interface. We went through a couple rounds in the design phase.

What is the team composition?

I interact with the project manager, a coder, a developer, and a designer. The CEO spoke to me a lot too. I mainly interacted with the project manager. During the middle and final phases, I mostly interacted with the developer because I wanted things to be done as soon as possible.

I found them on Clutch.co. There were a couple of companies I was looking at, but DevTechnosys was the fastest to respond. They’re really committed to the job. Their customer service is good. They gave us a good price within our budget. Based on their website and portfolio, we decided to use them.

There were some errors coming up. Once I told them about that problem, they fixed it immediately. They gave me results by the next day.

How did DevTechnosys perform from a project management standpoint?

We discussed everything through Skype and email. Their project manager is good at his job. When I asked him questions in the afternoon, he would reply within 30 minutes every time. They’ve been efficient in doing their job. They told us everything we need to know. They also taught me so that I better understood what was going on. Everything was clear and transparent. They delivered all the outcomes; most of them were on time. They’re efficient in helping us to do all the touchups and fix all the errors. They’re really helpful and I’m grateful for that.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re efficient and they finished the project within our budget. They’re kind and nice to talk to. Everything went smoothly. I didn’t see any trouble coming from their side. My boss demanded a lot of changes during the development phase. Some of those changes were not in the agreement, but they were okay with them and they helped us build all that we asked for. They provide good services.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They did everything I told them to do. They only do what I asked for and no more.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would definitely recommend them. If you have a limited budget but you want great work to be delivered, they are the developers you should go for.

What challenge were you trying to address with DevTechnosys?

We wanted a development company to improve our existing platform on our site.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We're linked to an ERP and CRM, but our existing site had a number of limitations. DevTechnosys used CSS, Bootstrap, and HMTL 5 programming to rework the front page and fix bugs in the backend.

They made the CMS more intuitive, giving me the ability to install updates.

They also helped with visual merchandising.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve seen definite improvements in efficiency and productivity since updating our website, and the user-friendly CMS has been a big help.

How did DevTechnosys perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicate primarily through email and Skype, and we have a system where they automatically address any change requests or requirements that I document.

Communication is always a concern when working with an offshore agency, but I know I can trust DevTechnosys because they maintain constant contact.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was unable to find anyone else capable of working with the platform we had, and they proved highly knowledgeable about the platform. They managed to understand our file structure and improve the backend.

They’re professional, effective, and reliable. I’ve worked with a lot of developers, but DevTechnosys accomplishes any task without excuses.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Not really, no. I was very happy with them.

They can handle any situation as long as you clearly document your requirements. It helps to have a business analyst on your end who understands the system and can articulate your priorities.
