Carina Software wired up a handful of Unity Services including Cloud Delivery Services and In App Purchases for Meta Quest, including unlocking the app following a successful purchase. Features included unlocking a Bonus Level and storing email addresses in the cloud, allowing users to manage their privacy, and Offline Mode for when the headset isn't online. They also resolved an issue with a Mixed Reality shader in passthrough.

The team delivered requested features and explained how to use them in the project. For one feature, they conducted deep research to explore a variety of options.

Great project management. Very detailed and organized, kept track of discrete tasks for feature areas and the hours spent. Responsive, excellent communication throughout the entire project

Their professional communication, technical documentation and follow-through was exemplary. When the project was completed, they continued to provide technical support to ensure the features were fully understood and working properly. Also, they have a deep talent bench - when the project needed specific expertise, they brought in those resources to assist.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Carina Softlabs Inc. could have done differently?

Having a bit more testing in the mix would be benefitial to validate the development

What challenge were you trying to address with Carina Softlabs Inc.?

We needed someone to develop a game for our product.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Carina Softlabs was involved in the design and front- and backend development of the software. They also provided website development. The expectation was to have a functional and well-tested product that would generate revenue and users would enjoy.

We worked with a backend developer, a frontend developer, and a project manager.

They were referred to us.

We spent $10,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from October 2019–January 2021.

Describe the impact this engagement has had on your business. 

They gave us bogus code, which they admitted, but made the excuse that it was not optimized. We had an audit done on the work Carina Softlabs delivered, which is different from what they presented to us as completed. The entire project needed to be redone from scratch, and we’ve hired another resource to do it. 

How was project management handled?

Initially, it was good, and the Carina Softlabs team was available and communicative. Once we got into the root of problems that were occurring, the communication was terrible. When things got complicated, they got defensive and would not accept responsibility for their mistakes. We asked for a refund, but they refused.

Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?

Communication was good at first. The team was strong at presenting things, but they don’t have any strengths from a technical standpoint.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Carina Softlabs needs to be more honest. Furthermore, they have to improve their skills and hire experienced people. They may be able to handle simple projects, but nothing too complicated.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Even if the work they present looks complete, have a technical audit done.

Very good communications and the MD works with you until you are satisfied on the project. If they have made any errors or technical errors they are quick to resolve them without any hassle.

Very good communications – kept us updated on the project progress by Skype almost each day.

They could have provided a better time estimate for the project

I would recommend them as a software provider for Unity-based projects
