The response to my questions and requests was always immediate. Some communication problems resulted from the need to communicate in a non-native language and my inexperiance with the "IT-language"
We had to postpone one deadline. The project took 4 months longer than initially estimated.

Vitec GmbH has developed a web platform and mobile application for iOS and Android devices. The team has built the entire platform from the ground up, handling the design work and wireframing.

What is the team composition?

I have contact with Marc (CEO & Co-Founders) and two developers from Vitec GmbH, although a few other professionals have worked on my project.

How did you come to work with Vitec GmbH?

I don't recall how I initially found Vitec GmbH. I chose the team because when I met with Marc, I thought he was a personable guy. He was easy to get along with, and I like to work with easygoing teammates. I've found it's easy to find someone who takes their job too seriously or someone who doesn't take it seriously enough. 

How much have you invested with them?

We've spent close to $1 million on this project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Vitec GmbH in August 2022, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Vitec GmbH has built a platform that condenses 3–4 platforms we previously used into one. The platform has made communication between end users and my staff seamless. Over a year, we'll probably have close to 200,000 users executing a purchase on the platform, and within that, we expect to have close to a million users visiting the platform.

Vitec GmbH's development process has been seamless as far as getting a product developed without going back to the drawing board to work out details. We've done product development, and you can tell the difference between working with Vitec GmbH and other providers. Going back to the drawing board can take weeks or months, and with Vitec GmbH, it usually takes a day.

How did Vitec GmbH perform from a project management standpoint?

Vitec GmbH delivers work on time and within budget. The team responds well to my needs, and Marc is always willing to work with me when there's an oversight, whether on my side or his. We communicate through Slack and WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Vitec GmbH is very workable and manageable, distinguishing them from their competitors. Marc is an easy guy to talk to, and he helps me figure out my problems.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything Vitec GmbH can improve.

I recommend spending some preliminary time on your framework. Define the ideology of how you want things to work and what needs to happen with the end user. The more prepared you are, the better Vitec GmbH will hit the ground running.

I'm the founder of an algorithm-based vegan meal planner for families. The product is a complex meal planner where families can choose among three meal-prepping options to help them save time.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Vitec GmbH?

I needed support to design and develop my product since this is the first time I've developed an app. I had the idea of the product I wanted but needed someone to help me build it, from the UI/UX design to the complete development. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

First, Vitec GmbH created the web app's design in Figma based on our discussions of what I wanted, where I could visualize each page design. In the app, users were asked to answer 10 questions where families input the name and age of each family member. Users can also choose which meal each family member will have weekly since not everyone is at home for every meal. 

Users can choose specific dietitian goals for each family member, select how many days each meal should last, and select which ingredients they want to cook with. For instance, if a user chooses to cook a dinner using potatoes, lentils, and chickpeas, the algorithm will also determine the next day's meal with those ingredients, saving users time. 

What is the team composition?

In the beginning, I talked to Marc (CEO & Co-Founder), and once the project started, I worked with a project manager, a designer, and a developer. My main contact was with the project manager and designer.

How did you come to work with Vitec GmbH?

I found Vitec GmbH on Fiverr and talked to Marc initially. We discussed my project to determine if the team could develop my idea. I spoke with different service providers, and my initial idea was to engage with different teams for the app's design and development. However, Marc suggested working with one company for all of the app's development would be better to avoid miscommunication issues. I selected Vitec GmbH since they could build my product from beginning to end.
How much have you invested with them?

In total, I spent €34,000 (approximately $37,000 USD), including taxes.

What is the status of this engagement?

I worked with Vitec GmbH from February 2023–August 2024. The app should have been launched yesterday; however, we had some issues with our hosting provider that the team is helping me resolve.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I required many changes throughout the process because I had an idea in my head, and once the team implemented it, sometimes I wanted a different outcome. In the end, I was happy with the final result, which was definitely what I wanted. The app is so personalized for each family that Vitec GmbH couldn't rely on other libraries or meal planners to develop it. The team was helpful and supportive.

How did Vitec GmbH perform from a project management standpoint?

Our initial communication took place in Fiverr, and then we switched to Slack. Vitec GmbH met deadlines and stayed within budget. The team was responsive to my changes, and I was happy with their project management and communication. Vitec GmbH was flexible and responsive to my questions. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

This is the first development company I've worked with, so I don't have any previous experience to compare the team's work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Sometimes, Vitec GmbH didn't test their results when I requested changes. I encountered bugs and had to ask the team to fix them. At times, Vitec GmbH told me the bug was fixed, but when I went to check the site, the bug was still occurring. I documented very well what I wanted; however, I think this could be due to my product's complexity. I was a little mad that I had to basically test the entire planner when it wasn't my role.
