Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The outcomes were positive. We achieved the fixes in most cases within the exact timeframe specified beforehand. And the new developments led to a better user experience for schools and students.

This all was excellent and professional. We used Slack to communicate so I was always aware of progress and any issues were dealt with quickly. Asana was also used and well as Trello.

Their professionalism, communication, and reliability are the most impressive. I have 100% trust in not being deceived which is something that was immediately apparent and proved over every interaction, and incredibly important.

We wanted to do complex technical integrations with identity and access management companies.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Varyence is helping us with software design and development. We started by going through the architectural view of the product. Consequently, we built the prototype and the solution to integrate with companies like Visual Studio, Okta, Microsft Azure, and Amazon AWS.

To build and design the product, we’ve been using technologies like JavaScript, Node.js, and Python.

I knew Jason personally and learned he had the resources to help me with some challenges. We decided to go with Varyence because Jason’s offer was the most attractive and he’s a responsible person who can deliver.

We contract with Varyence as our most important technology partner. They assist us by providing service from software designers, developers, and QA personnel. Our goal was to bring to life a concept for an e-commerce data analytics application for Shopify and Amazon sellers.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We selected Varyence after doing an extensive online search and interviewing several candidates. We chose to work with them because they made actionable recommendations during our interview process and generally came across as having the greatest expertise of any of the other candidates we considered. They brought factors to light that we hadn't even considered, and quickly helped us to create a technology strategy - before we even hired them.

We worked with several of Varyence's great UI/UX designers to pull concepts out of our heads and put them into Figma. After signing off of detailed wireframes, we moved on to the actual software engineering using Varyence's team of developers. We opted to build our application using PHP in the Laravel framework. We are continuing to roll out new functionality frequently as our project is ongoing and moving forward rapidly.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We have recently launched an approved Shopify App in the App Store and acquired our first 20 users. The deliverables from Varyence have all been great! We are very satisfied with their service.

We have used Microsoft Teams and Jira to stay on top of the project. Each day, the technical resources send me an update on exactly what was completed that day. We meet by phone twice weekly to demo new features and discuss any outstanding issues. The project management style has been great.

I have been impressed by the depth of technical knowledge, the speed with which they are able to staff great resources, and how quickly the project has moved forward.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Nothing comes to mind, really. We are a very satisfied customer!

We haven’t done an official launch of the product as of yet, but we’ve garnered about 1,000 downloads, and the feedback for the iOS version of the app has been mostly positive. It hasn’t experienced any crashes, and it consistently runs at an optimal level.

They perform well from a project management perspective, as they’re always on top of the requirements and tasks they need to deliver.

We use JIRA and Monday.com to manage everything, and Slack to communicate.

We like that they’re a lot more transparent and accommodating than the previous company we worked with.

They’re a younger company in comparison to the other companies in their field, but I can’t think of anything they need to improve on.

I’m the CEO and founder of a lending company. We’re a first-of-its-kind P2P platform for fintech companies seeking finance. We help them continue to develop emerging and transformative technologies. We’re a fintech firm looking to help others grow, expand, and reach new heights by connecting them with experienced investors, angel investors, venture capitalists, and similar parties.

What challenge were you trying to address with Varyence?

Varyence worked on our company’s branding and created a clickable prototype. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Varyence initially asked us for a pitch deck to understand our company, our target market, and our audience demographics. We had multiple conversations about our market and data tests to ensure we had something that was in demand and resonated with people. They gave us suggestions to help narrow down our niche, leveraging their experience and market research to tell us what would work best. 

They asked me if I had my own logo alongside the other things I’d already brought into the company. Their designer asked me if I wanted to design something from scratch, and they came up with designs after that. They showed the designs to me on Figma and delivered a couple of logo versions. After some discussions, we found one that complemented our identity as a company. 

From there, Varyence created our clickable prototype. We wanted a great chance at getting a good valuation for additional funding in the future, and one of the ways to do that was to have a good prototype. It allowed us to develop our vision, too.

What is the team composition?

We worked with around five teammates from Varyence, including a designer and a business analyst who also served as the project manager. Besides them, the head of development ensured everything was going on smoothly. Their CTO and managing director worked on the project, too. 

How did you come to work with Varyence?

I was looking into alternative sources of funding solutions for companies, and I learned about family offices. I came across one such company and had a Zoom meeting to understand their services. At that point, I couldn’t afford their services. However, as they gained a better idea of my goals, they asked me if I already had a development team. 

From there, they recommended Varyence to me. We had a formal introduction where I met Varyence’s founders. Their software engineering team usually took on clients for a fee, but they also invested in certain companies. Like other investors, they wanted to ensure they invested in something that aligned with what they did. 

When I got introduced to Varyence, I felt right away that they weren’t just a software engineering company; they were a team of people who cared about their clients. They complemented what I was doing, and we definitely had some synergy from our first interaction. They understood what I was doing, so I hired them. 

How much have you invested with them?

They said the prototype cost around $5,500 per client, and it was waived since we struck a partnership with them. 

What is the status of this engagement?

The prototype was developed from September–October 2023. However, our discussions officially started in July 2023.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The prototype looked fantastic, and I couldn’t have asked anything else. It gave me so much confidence to sit with investors and show them what I was trying to do. I was talking to a third-party service provider and showed them the prototype, and they thought it was the final product. They were so wowed by it, and that was exactly what I wanted. 

Moreover, I brought the product out to some other people, and they were incredibly impressed. All of them didn’t believe that it was only a functional prototype; they all thought it was a live, functional product. They were extremely surprised and impressed with the quality of the product. 

The quality of Varyence’s work was top-notch. Since we had an international collaboration — I’m in New Jersey, US, and they’re in Croatia and Ukraine — we had to have the same exact vision to make the engagement work. The success of this project showed how well they worked as a company and how good their synergy was.

How did Varyence perform from a project management standpoint?

It was such a collaborative experience that everybody collaborated 100%. Varyence’s communication skills as an organization were phenomenal. Meeting deadlines was an extremely important thing for them. They always sent a report on how much time we spent on a meeting. Everyone in the engagement was always aware of how much time was spent on meetings and work; we also knew how much time we had left. That was why we stayed within their timeline estimate. 

To communicate, we used Zoom, Google Meet, emails, and phone calls. They’d ask me whenever we needed to talk about the best way to contact me if I was in the office or on the go. This played a huge part in ensuring that everything went according to plan. I always had access to the team and could review how the process was going. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were great at making me understand that I was in control. They provided suggestions, and they wanted to ensure I was always happy with the results without forcing anything on me. I liked that comfort level; I knew that even if they were doing such work for 20–30 years, I was still in the driver’s seat. 

However, what truly made them stand out more than anything else was the way they worked with me as a startup. They put themselves in my shoes and worked as if they were a startup themselves. As a result, they knew what I wished I had access to and what resources I needed. I was learning many of these things for the first time, but they didn’t take advantage of that. 

For instance, the initial proposal I gave them was too high. They educated me on the entire process and showed me what was fair. These things showed how much transparency they had and how much they wanted to work and hold my hand throughout the process.

Are there any areas they could improve?

A majority of the people they work with are non-technical people, but they have experience working with technical people, too. They can be as open to technical people as they are to non-technical ones. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

While you can expect them to do 150% of the work, you also have to do your fair share of work. If you’re a business owner, ensure you’re doing your end of the partnership. Keep them updated. Don’t leave all the grunt work to them and hope it all works out.  If you do it that way, the project will not work out how you want.
