scandiweb managed our end-to-end migration from Magento 2 to Shopify Plus, including platform strategy, data migration, custom development, systems integration, SEO preservation, and post-launch optimization. The primary objective was to modernize our eCommerce infrastructure while minimizing operational disruption and improving long-term scalability. 

The engagement began with a comprehensive audit of our Magento environment. Their team documented all custom functionality, workflows, integrations, and dependencies before creating a phased migration roadmap. They handled the migration of more than 8,000 SKUs, customer accounts, order history, and product data, including several complex product structures that required custom migration scripts instead of standard import tools. 

scandiweb also rebuilt our ERP and warehouse management integrations to align with Shopify Plus architecture and implemented middleware solutions to improve reliability and reduce maintenance overhead. On the SEO side, they completed full redirect mapping, migrated metadata, and rebuilt structured data to help preserve organic search performance during the transition.

Additional deliverables included Shopify Plus theme development, checkout customization, performance optimization, QA testing, launch monitoring, and post-launch support. Following the successful migration, we retained scandiweb for ongoing development initiatives, including international expansion support and UX improvements to our product detail pages.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The migration was completed successfully with minimal disruption to operations, and all critical business data  including product catalogs, customer accounts, and order history, transferred cleanly to Shopify Plus. Site performance improved noticeably after launch, resulting in faster page loads and a more stable shopping experience for customers.

Our organic search visibility remained stable throughout the migration and improved within the first few months after launch due to proper redirect mapping, metadata preservation, and rebuilt structured data. Internally, our team now spends significantly less time managing platform maintenance and troubleshooting issues, allowing us to focus more on growth initiatives, customer experience improvements, and new market expansion. 

The rebuilt ERP and warehouse integrations also improved operational reliability and reduced the number of synchronization and inventory management issues we previously experienced on Magento 2.

scandiweb demonstrated strong project management throughout the engagement. Communication was consistent, milestones were clearly documented, and the team maintained transparency around progress, risks, and dependencies from the beginning of the project. 

Most deliverables were completed on schedule, although the overall timeline extended by approximately three weeks due largely to delays on our side related to content and asset delivery. scandiweb identified those risks early, communicated the potential impact clearly, and adjusted the rollout plan proactively so there were no major surprises. 

The team was highly responsive to our needs throughout the migration and post-launch phases. During launch weekend, they actively monitored the platform and resolved minor issues, including a payment gateway edge case and inventory synchronization timing adjustments, within hours. Their responsiveness, technical depth, and ability to adapt to changing requirements made the overall process significantly smoother for our internal teams.

What stood out most about scandiweb was their level of preparation and technical depth. They approached the migration as a long-term platform transformation rather than simply rebuilding a storefront on Shopify Plus. 

Their team took the time to fully understand our existing Magento environment, integrations, workflows, and operational dependencies before development began. The migration roadmap was extremely detailed, particularly around data mapping, ERP and warehouse integrations, SEO preservation, and phased deployment planning. 

We were also impressed by their ability to handle complex technical challenges with custom solutions instead of forcing everything through generic tools or shortcuts. Their proactive communication, enterprise-level experience, and post-launch support gave us a high level of confidence throughout the project.

Are there any areas for improvement or something scandiweb could have done differently?

Overall, the engagement was very successful, and the team delivered a strong outcome for a highly complex migration project. The only area that could have been improved was the overall project timeline, which extended by a few weeks. However, much of that delay was tied to internal dependencies and content delivery on our side rather than execution issues from scandiweb. 

To their credit, the team identified potential risks early, communicated timeline impacts clearly, and adjusted the rollout plan proactively. More aggressive escalation around outstanding client-side dependencies might have helped keep certain phases moving faster, but overall their project management and responsiveness were strong throughout the engagement.

We’ve also received feedback that this new way could be superior to the plain online shopping experience.

In terms of improvement potential, we could mention that a bit more transparency and predictability when it comes to the management of project schedule, the question of in scope/out of scope project budget and potential risks (regarding the project deliverables), especially during the transitions between different project phases would help to make the project execution smoother.

Given the way that scandiweb is setup (competence centre driven), when in bigger projects the overall project picture is not clear and forces the client to keep track of the independent work packages from each competence centre, having a big picture that gives the global perspective would be highly appreciated.

Scandiweb was engaged to assume the responsibilities for the support and maintenance of the  existing Ecommerce system as a contigency "Plan B" due to the current contactors' inability to support our growing business.
the Scandiweb team ran an audit to identify issues and areas that needed improvement, mainly focusing on performance and security. Based on what they found, they put together a plan to fix these problems, which helped stabilise the platform and make it more scalable for future growth.
Scandiweb continues to work with us on regular system reviews, upgrades, and improvements to keep up with changes in the eCommerce space and ensure the platform stays up to date.

• Improved system stability:  Worked with out IT team to source the right hosting for our eCommerce platform.

There were multiple project managers involved in this project, as it covered both ongoing support for the existing system (handling break/fix issues) and planned improvements to enhance the stability and scalability of our eCommerce system.

For day-to-day support, the team was very responsive although we were located in different timezones.  We had a direct line of contact with our assigned PM and support engineers, which helped ensure that critical issues were addressed.  Everything was logged in their ticketing system, making it easy for all engineers to track recent changes and quickly identify if a new issue was related to a recent udpate. 

For planned improvements, the team kept us regularly updated on progress and adjusted priorities as needed to ensure that changes would minise business and customer impact.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Scandiweb follows a strict change management process. Every update or change is documented in their ticketing system and reviewed by the project manager before being closed. Before any changes are deployed to the production environment, they are first tested in a development environment. We were also involved in validating and approving changes in the development environment, which helped reduce unexpected issues when deployed to production.

Another great quality was their approach to problem-solving. Rather than pushing a single solution, they worked with us through multiple revisions to find the best approach that met our our business needs and budget. Their approach made a significant difference in ensuring the right solutions were implemented.

Are there any areas for improvement or something scandiweb could have done differently?

One of our challenges was the time zone differences. Our business operates in a different time zone which meant we had to wait until the afternoon for support. This was how our support contract was set up, but having an option for coverage during our local business hours would have helped our staff. However, due to the way they managed and maintained our system, we never had a full system outage where everything was down and unusable.

Another area that could be improved is continuity of support. We had a dedicated engineer handling most of our requests, which worked really well. But when they moved on to another project or left, there was an adjustment period while the new engineer got up to speed with how our system was set up and customised. Although there was a handover, it still took some time. Having more cross-training or a backup resource involved earlier could have made the transition smoother.

In saying that, Scandiweb has always been open to feedback and improving the way they support us. They have been proactive in addressing our needs, which we’ve really appreciated.
