With the crazy year that 2020 was, brands have had to really up their online game. In many instances, brick-and-mortar-only businesses had to quickly pivot to an online strategy to stay open. They struggled driving traffic to their sites and convert that traffic to meaningful engagements between them and their customers.

How did you select Power Digital Marketing and what were the deciding factors?

We work with Power Digital in a joint fashion to help brands and businesses have a great web presence leveraging WordPress, the leading CMS for the web. Power Digital's clients come to them because of their expertise in campaigns designed to drive traffic to their SEO optimized business and ecom sites. Power Digital trust that WP Engine will provide a great managed hosting experience.

A typical scope of work includes campaign creation, a WordPress site, a commerce component and ongoing enhancements to the campaign and site. Deliverables include the concept, design, campaign for digital marketing, a brand site, landing page and any further pages using WordPress as the CMS and other marketing technologies to track and provide metrics.

I work closest with the development side of Power Digital. That consists of 2-4 members of the team depending on the project.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Over the past year since late 2019, we have worked together to deploy or support more than 5 new client projects.

The team is very professional in their communication. When launching a site on our platform, they are very familiar and are primarily self-sufficient which makes it great for them and their clients. It removes the additional effort to align schedules. When our assistance is needed to launch, they always come prepared to deploy the site with minimal effort on our side.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They take the time upfront to understand the challenges and goals of their clients. This time and understanding leads to better outcomes. They are experts in their space.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

From my perspective as a vendor/partner, they really do a great job. If there was anything I could be critical of, it would be that we don't get to work together often enough!

Power Digital created a new website on WordPress, and their team still helps us with all of our digital marketing activities. We pay for Google Ads, Bing Ads, and Facebook Ads. In addition to PPC campaigns, Power Digital manages SEO initiatives.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Power Digital has obtained great results. Their SEO campaigns quickly led to growth. Our rankings for all of our keywords have increased too. They’re performing well throughout all of our different channels.

How did Power Digital Marketing perform from a project management standpoint?

We have weekly meetings, and Power Digital updates Nova on a weekly basis, so we’re able to see all of their pending tasks. We also have a CRM that tracks the number of leads generated through different channels. They present statistics about traffic and leads every month, so they're always evaluating data.

We’re happy because their team’s proactive and responsive. Any time I contact them, they respond the same day. I can contact the entire team. If there's an issue, I'm able to communicate with their team.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a team of young, smart individuals who're casual and professional. Their team demonstrates their knowledge, so I’m confident working with them. It’s not only their personalities but also the results of their efforts that set them apart from competitors.

What was the scope of their involvement? 

We originally hired Power Digital Marketing to assist us in managing and growing our Amazon business through Amazon Marketing Services (AMS) as well as our paid digital marketing efforts (e.g., Google Ads). 

Before we started, the team put together a forecast for the Amazon side of the project, outlining a media budget for 2020. They’ve since ramped up quickly, in large part due to the pandemic, and now assist in troubleshooting a lot of our operational and catalog issues. For example, we run our business across many channels and have to consider them all when dealing with our Amazon business. 

Power Digital Marketing has really helped us wade through those waters to figure out solutions for those frequent challenges. They’ve been great partners on that front by managing and optimizing our content. The team makes sure that our products show up as best as they can on Amazon’s digital shelf.

Currently, we work with them more on branding and digital through Google. Our goal is to drive direct-to-consumer (D2C) business through brand support. They also help catalog some of the operational and administrative pieces related to their work.

What is the team composition? 

Josh O. (PPC Paid Media Account Manager) is our main point of contact, but everyone there is genuinely nice to work with. I particularly like that they have a very tactical support structure. There’s the typical account executive who oversees all of the projects and then a senior executive sponsor who has more of the strategy chops.

How did you come to work with Power Digital Marketing?

It was through my professional network. Power Digital Marketing worked with another brand that one of my contacts knew, so they referred me to them. 

Out of the proposals that we’d heard, their team had the smartest pitch. They seemed to fully understand our business objectives, grasped how we’d benchmark performance, and went above and beyond to do the forecasting work. Not every agency will do that, especially for businesses of our size. Finally, their pricing was competitive and within our budget.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve worked with them since January 2020. We’ve scaled back some of our Amazon work this year, but they’re still working on our SEO.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Everything we talk about is based on data. We take a ROAS-focused (return on ad spend) approach that goes through a crawl, walk, and run. That is to say, we start in one place, prove that it works, and then invest in it or move on to the next thing. We’re carefully watching our key performance indicators (KPIs) to make sure we’re seeing the right ROAS.

Power Digital Marketing has been phenomenal in maintaining that viewpoint as they’ve worked with us. Whereas other agencies I’ve worked with have pressured me to spend more to see returns, Power Digital Marketing has really understood that they need to prove a strategy’s profitability and understand what it’s doing for us before even gently suggesting anything else. The team is performance-driven, and I trust them to keep an eye on our campaigns and make revisions that are in our best interests.

When it comes to SEO, we track our performance through our page rankings, SEO-based traffic, and sales to see how they change over time. 

How did Power Digital Marketing perform from a project management standpoint?

We have monthly meetings to track our top-line results compared to our forecast and keep a weekly eye on our ROAS performance. There’s also a shared Google Doc for our strategy and timelines, and they use Slack for communication. The team is honest in telling us when things aren’t working so well, which helps us make adjustments. In those cases, they follow a formal process to track the constant changes and updates. 

Beyond that, they’re willing to come forward with additional opportunities as they see them. There have been several instances when we’ve engaged in additional projects because they’ve come to the table with smart, interesting proposals that have made sense for our business. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a sharp group of marketers who are a pleasure to work with. Power Digital Marketing really tries to understand our business and brand before pitching ideas to us. That allows them to see where opportunities are, which makes for good business between both parties.

It’s also refreshing to have someone from their executive leadership participating regularly on our calls. That’s not something we’ve seen regularly with other agencies. On occasion, I bring up broader business challenges that I haven’t fleshed out yet, and their leadership sees through those ambiguities to translate them to his team. They then come back with potential solutions. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

In terms of our creative projects, we didn’t quite get off the ground with them as much as we would’ve liked. Their design aesthetic was a bit different from the brand-specific guidelines that we had in place. Granted, that could've been more symptomatic of the fact that we were going through some branding changes internally at the time that they couldn’t have known about. Our creative director ended up taking over those responsibilities.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Just like with any agency, you need someone on your team who can stay on top of their work. I trust Power Digital Marketing with our business, but they’re not as entrenched in our brand as an internal member would be. You’ll get so much more out of the relationship if you stay engaged, ask questions, and poke holes in the reporting.

Influencer –manage the relationship with a multitude of influencers and ensure a wide variety of content is created and shared across social media.

Handle contracts, media libraries, and all communication. Social (organic & paid) – develop monthly social calendar. Write post copy and create or include UGC as needed. Work with our team to edit & revise as necessary. Also manage all paid social advertising to increase awareness, follower growth, and ecomm sales.

What was the team composition?

We work with closely with the team members in each category (content, email, social, etc.). They are always accessible and quick to respond when needed. We currently work with 7-9 team members.

Some team members have come and gone but whenever a new person comes on there is ample time for them to get up to speed so we aren't just "passed off to someone else" which happens a lot when working with agencies.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Since working with Power Digital we have seen significant growth in our digital presence. Key metrics on the social side have all increased. SEO value has improved and we rank on pgs.

1-2 for many keywords now (with more on the way). Email marketing has shown great potential in terms of communication with customers and revenue generated. Our ecomm business has increased at a steady rate.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The project managers we have worked with have been great. The flow of communication has been practically effortless. We have regular calls to review performance and discuss initiatives. We primarily use email for most other communication. And the team is always available for one-off calls when we request it.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We have been impressed with knowledge level each team member has in their respective role. They always have answers to questions and are rarely without a solution to a problem we encounter.

We've also been impressed with their ability to merge with our team to become an extension of our marketing group rather than just "the agency people". They're easy to work with, knowledgeable, and always on task.

Are there any areas for improvement?

We've had a few 'hiccups' along the way and team was open to our criticisms and transparent with us in return.

The issues were quickly addressed and we moved on. I think it's important to note this because that level of openness is crucial to building a long-term partnership and something often missing in the agency-client relationship.

PDM drove our social media campaigns and channels, they updated our website with design tweaks, and helped create and execute strategic email campaigns on a monthly basis. They had a team of 6-12 individuals, with 2 account managers who all reported on their respective efforts.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

PDM did a nice job of helping improve our overall SEO rankings with local search terms. They did a nice job helping with tweaks needed on our website with all of the changes with COVID. They were innovative and creative with different strategies to gain business.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Workflow was easy. PDM was very patient and flexible with us as we had a lot of historical data to pull. I loved having a direct point of contact there that managed our project. They were incredibly flexible with us.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

PDM was very professional and timely with their reporting, correspondence, availability, and response time. Their customer service was second to none, which was extremely helpful considering I was personally managing their efforts on behalf of our company.

PDM did a great job working with us, Their strategy was solid I believe they could expand on their knowledge within the behavioral healthcare space to help with specific industry issues.

We have several weekly, biweekly and monthly meetings with their team and work together on a daily basis.

Chuze has a lean internal marketing team - Power Digital has enabled us to bite off much larger pieces of digital marketing that we would have been able to on our own.

Their team has brought creative strategies and ideas to the table and continues to improve our ad performance and conversion. They helped us launch iChuze Fitness, a virtual fitness platform, and have been in lockstep with us through the challenges that have been the reality of the fitness industry over the last year.

Highly effective - Power Digital has worked hard to put in place processes that work well for both teams and help us all to reach our goals as efficiently as possible using Slack and Asana for project management.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their team is personable, helpful and hardworking - a great cultural fit for ours. They will often go above and beyond what is necessary to help us inch toward our larger goals.

Not really - I think there are always areas where we can improve but their team works closely with ours on a regular basis to determine what those are and implement new processes or procedures from there.

I’m the owner of an independent consulting company that partners with private equity firms to oversee the marketing of their portfolio companies, so it’s essentially outsourced CMO work for mid-market portfolio companies.

I’ve worked with them for about 6–7 different companies that I’ve worked with. There was a portfolio company that was spending about $150,000 each month on search engine marketing, but they weren’t spending anything on SEO. We brought in Power Digital Marketing to perform an audit of the existing work on the search engine marketing front, as well as a full SEO audit.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The services Power Digital Marketing provides range from auditing different marketing efforts, including PPC and SEO, to actually implementing and managing campaigns. I’ve also used them for lead generation campaigns for SaaS companies.

They’ve also helped with website migrations, merging sites together whenever it is needed for a client. For those efforts, they handle the technical aspects like canonical tags and redirects. I’m also about to start using them for website development services. 

After they performed an SEO and search engine marketing audit for my client, we then started to utilize them for ongoing PPC and optimization efforts. They do technical SEO work, and also write and post content.

Around seven people work with us from their team. There is a project manager along with individual teammates who run each aspect of the work.

I was the CMO for a mid-market private equity firm, overseeing 11 portfolio companies. A person I worked with ended up getting a job at a private equity firm that was invested in Power Digital Marketing. That person met their owner and thought we’d have a really good connection. We were introduced and went from there.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

For the client that they performed an SEO and search engine marketing audit for, they caught about $200,000 a year of ad spend that was going to wasted PPC campaigns. They optimized the PPC campaigns to get a much better client acquisition cost and they’ve done great work to build organic SEO rankings. 

For other clients they’ve helped us with, I’ve seen really phenomenal SEO results through just internal linking and other strategies. For keywords that I could never imagine would rank on page one for a mid-market company, Power Digital Marketing makes it happen. They really know their stuff when it comes to SEO. 

How did Power Digital Marketing perform from a project management standpoint?

They provide reporting and we use a dashboard to see their results. They’re great and are open to lots of forms of communication. 

For some projects, we’ll have a dedicated Slack channel that includes relevant members of the Power Digital Marketing team and our client. Other times, we just have ongoing email threads and meetings that happen every week or so. They always have an executive sponsor on each project to make sure everything moves along on time. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their results distinguish them from other providers. There are 1 million other providers who will say they can do it, but I can’t think of a time that I’ve worked with an agency more than once. I’ve worked with Power Digital Marketing at least six times, so that speaks to their results.

There’s nothing I’ve experienced that they could improve. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

This applies to agencies in general, but you’ll get the most out of your agency when you have people internally who understand the actual execution elements of the work. The times you won’t get a lot out of an agency is when you don’t have any idea what they’re talking about. If you don’t know what they mean when they talk about keywords, rankings, quality scores, or other aspects, you’re never going to get the most out of that agency.

Their services include SEO, PPC, PR, and email campaigns. They’ve also created a landing page design for our website. Their team performed a content review on our website, too, and have made structural changes to it.

We work closely with them on keyword research, tagging, metadata, title tags — basically a whole slew of technical analysis. We also do digital marketing efforts with them through paid ads on Google. They’ve been helping us with our language on the site, along with the call-to-actions and navigation.

There are about 8–10 people working with us on the project. There is an SEO expert, a copy and content expert, a PR expert, an account manager, a project manager, and a media purchasing expert.

The first phase has really been spent cleaning up the groundwork and getting the site ready to receive interest from advertising. We’re just beginning to spend on advertising and receive leads from Google. 

How did Power Digital Marketing perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been good at managing the project. They achieve many of our target deadlines. We use a shared dashboard to track key metrics related to their solutions, including page views, contacts added to our CRM, deal progress, and wins, in addition to Google Analytics.

We also use HubSpot and other dashboards to manage the process. We typically communicate through several weekly meetings on Google Hangouts. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re good at what they do — they care about the client and the results. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have any immediate complaints or changes. We give them feedback every week and they adjust. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I like using Slack for immediate feedback; it has been a powerful tool and they’re very responsive with it. Tune your dashboard to include critical KPIs and metrics.
