What was the scope of their involvement?

They worked with us on mainly SEO efforts. They wrote blogs for us every month and helped with a certain amount of ad spend for PPC services. They worked on keyword research, digital PR efforts, and backlinking from other blogs. The PPC work included Google Ads and they served as advisors on the website build and content. We also ran some email campaigns, too.

I met the owners through a peer group and we connected. They gave me the opportunity to work with them on these efforts, so we continued after things went well in the beginning.

We spent close to $12,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our engagement ran from December 2017–March 2020. Since catering hasn’t been doing well since the COVID-19 pandemic, we ended our engagement.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Their efforts turned out well. We definitely saw some of our content move to the first page of search results, especially for venues. Since we’ve been done for around a year, I can’t recite any specific metrics, but the work had an impact.

We mainly used email to communicate. I also went in for a monthly meeting with them.

Their systems and team were dialed in — everyone was invested in what they were working to accomplish. They had a good crew to work with.

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of anything for them to improve.

Overall, the team is very well and appropriately staffed and have a consistent project management and communication structure.

I am able to let you know that their audit outcome was exactly what we were looking for. In addition, their game plan was perfectly fit to out needs.

We first partnered with Power Digital Marketing after they quickly rose to the top of potential partners responding to our RFP for a new consumer website.

It quickly morphed into so much more once we got to know the Power team even more...

How did you select Power Digital Marketing and what were the deciding factors?

Power was uber-responsive in the RFP phase. It was clearly evident from the beginning that we are all on the "same sheet of music."

They were very keen on validating our expressed needs, and giving us room to pick the right path when things got cloudy.

We saw the breadth of their talent, we had a great rapport with our primary points of contact, and they always been sensitive to our budget.

We've been working for the most part on our new consumer website. The project is very much aligned with our expressed needs.

The project is an industry-leading website for The Glass Guru that meets the current and future needs of our individual franchise owners and our national brand as well.

The site is a minified, lean, beautiful custom site built over a WordPress CMS. The project included scope/discovery, including extensive SEO mapping, wireframe, development, content migration, and launch.

Along the way, we've increased the level of partnership with Power, bringing them on as our Agency partners as well, assisting our brand with strategy, collateral templates, content marketing, and more...

While John and Annie have been our primary points-of-contact, there are at least a dozen talented & creative team members on our account at any given time.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

As we have not launched, we can't tell you that this project crushed our ROI expectations.

What I DO expect is that we WILL be able to say this in another quarter or two once the site is live and we've optimized it once or twice.

What I can say having been through this process many times is that the folks at Power are one of the most professional teams I've ever worked with in my 30-years of franchising!

They are proactive, they over-communicate, and they are accountable!

Again, proactive comms, weekly updates. Iterative design reviews conducted using Adobe XD (which is preferred to us).

Annie is particularly talented at quietly moving us along, keeping things on track.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I've said it before. It's really easy to dramatically underestimate the sheer size of Power Digital Marketing.

They are a huge team, and yet every conversation with them is an intimate, "coffee-table style" conversation where we feel like we are part of a really exclusive group of customers working with a boutique agency.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

My only "critical" feedback was on the PM side, as project-management is a lot of what I do. When The Glass Guru was slipping on deadlines from time to time, Power was too "nice" in governing us.

Sometimes you gotta "crack the whip" to keep the project on track, and we tend to always have a lot of distractions around here at The Glass Guru.

We selected PDM after an exhaustive local search. We are invovled in the busienss community and there is no shortage of firms claiming to be digital strategists. PDM was an easy choice due to their tangible value creation for the client partners.

The work entailed establishing clear client personas and demographics we were targetting. From there, we identified the most optimal platforms and channels our target client is on and what messages mattered most to them. Through this work we developed a content marketing strategy that was supplemented by SEO, Paid Social and certain PR efforts.

We had a team of 4 people from PDM supporting our projects. An overall cleint account manager and support specialists.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The ROI that we got form our efforts were more than 5x the financial committment. Beyond that, the intangibles were the feedback we have received from those in our community related to the content we have shared.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Seamless. They were on time and held us accountable to the timeline. We were never left in the dark. They were always touching base and keeping us information and on task. It was optimal.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Everything. The team was passionate and cohesive. The energy around our project from the team members was contagious. They were all about results. We created clear KPIs that were measurable and stood by them...adjusting along the way to hit our goals. Everything was impressive.

I am the owner of Claire Burke, a 64 year brand which creates and distributes home decor fragrance products such as candles, room sprays, electric plug in units and refills, potpourri etc.

Our company transitioned from Big Commerce to Shopify last year.

They did an amazing on boarding plan to get to know the brand and our position in the market place. After that, they lay out a plan and discuss with the principal executives from ViX. After we approved, they execute the plan with their very prepared team members.

We reviewed every month and made changes accordantly to the results. The team is very result oriented, which I really appreciate it.

In the first year, we grew 30% in revenue with a decrease in the google spend investment in 50%. The second year we had a 70% increase in net revenue, with a very affordable budget for add spend.

They work very creatively in how to increase revenue and acquire new customers without spending a lot of money, which is not common in the industry of digital agencies.

Their team is very effective, I have the same account manager since we start the project. She knows our brand and PDM team always suggest the best ideas. I feel like they work for our company because of their perception of our brand.

Unfortunately no, this client has a strict NDA so we can not share results but we can say we are incredibly impressed with them as a partner.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We worked tightly together with our project manager working with them, goals were met, timelines were met and whenever we hit a road block (as you do in complex projects) we worked through it.

Their understanding of the Hubspot platform was impressive.

I’m the director of growth at Trade Coffee, a direct-to-consumer coffee subscription business.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Power Digital Marketing?

We’re leveraging them for SEO services.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They worked to optimize our core e-commerce pages as well as a lot of our content-focused blog pages, making sure they all ranked high in organic search engine results. Under that SEO umbrella, we leveraged them for the technical side of it, too, ensuring our site maps and links were set up for best SEO practices. Last year, they helped us with a blog migration, migrating it into our main site from a sister site. 

They also did content grading, making sure content on our blogs are optimized for specific keywords and were ranking. The third pillar they worked on was link-building, which included reaching out to publishers to backlink to our site and boosting the equity Google provided for us, as a form of offsite SEO. As far as onsite SEO, they made sure we were linking our pages in the best possible manner. 

What is the team composition?

We had two primary points of contact, including the director of client success and the director of strategic accounts, who ran strategy. We also worked with the content manager and PR coordinator, who handled more tactical work, so there were around five people. 

How did you come to work with Power Digital Marketing?

The decision to work with them happened before my time and they’ve been working with our company since before I started. We did renew their contract after we knew they were one of the best agencies in the business at a relatively decent price. We got a lot for what we pay them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $372,000 on the engagement. 

What is the status of this engagement?

The project ran from February 2019—January 2021, we’re wrapping up our work.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We wanted to rank on a lot of our educational pages, and they helped us change our rank from page 10 to the first position on the first page, really turning around our ranking early on.

When they led the charge on the blog migration, it helped lead to a 300% growth in traffic for our blogs. When they did a lot of work with keywords on our core pages for our coffee subscription, it now drives 15%–20% of our business on a monthly basis. 

How did Power Digital Marketing perform from a project management standpoint?

We did a lot of work in Google Sheets because it works really well with our team. That was the primary way we managed the project with them. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They knew their stuff — if I had an SEO question, I leveraged them as much as possible. They were great strategic partners to help us reach our SEO goals. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

This could apply to a lot of agencies, but even though they knew SEO like the back of their hand, being able to translate it to our goals was different. Being able to translate that to what we wanted to get out of it from a brand perspective is something they struggled with.

For example, their recommendations were very SEO-focused but may have missed the branding side of things since they focused on what would rank highest for SEO. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be cognizant of knowing they will drive the tactical, execution side of things, but you’ll need to spearhead the branding side of things. Be clear about your long-term goals for the relationship outside of just SEO.
