We’ve hired Next Big Technology several times. The case I’m reviewing here is a website development for a stucco contractor.

What were your goals for this project?

Our client's main goal was to have an attractive website that well-represented their growth. My own goal as a web designer was to give them a site that would set them apart from their competitors, both in aesthetics and functionality (e.g., mobile friendliness). We had a limited budget, so it was imperative we exceed our client's expectations and remain within constraints.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We’d been working with NBT regularly for several years. Our companies have established procedures, so we know we can each deliver for the other. We use Upwork as a marketplace/platform to conduct our projects.

We provided the full design in Photoshop files and NBT coded the site on WordPress using CSS. We used a few specific WordPress plugins to optimize site performance, and NBT took care of setting up that list. They then tackled browser/device idiosyncrasies, testing on multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Edge, Android, and Safari for iPhone) and devices (iPhone, Android, desktop, iPad).

After our client made revisions, NBT worked with us on optimizing speed using industry-acknowledged tools (GT Metrix, YSLow, Page Insights) and visual inspection. NBT provided technical recommendations for these tools, and we tested and confirmed they reached an acceptable performance level.

NBT assigns a senior developer and an auxiliary develop to all our projects. Amit (Director, Next Big Technologies) and I work together to establish timelines and do QC on the milestones.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Our clients were delighted with the site. They expressed their appreciation for our work both in a personal email and a Google review. When they showed the site to others, they only received compliments. Hopefully, this will result in further referrals. It’s also become a highlight of our portfolio.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

As mentioned above, we have long-established procedures with NBT that include Upwork for milestone management and daily communication over email and Skype. The process is efficient, easy, and well-rehearsed.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

After many years of collaboration, I appreciate NBT for their willingness to reach for higher standards. WordPress isn’t a great development tool, but it’s the de-facto standard for SMEs, and they have to deal with a large number of quirks that slow down development. NBT is always willing to face these complexities and tackle any challenge to get the website where it needs to be regarding design, interoperability, speed, and functionality. This is why NBT has remained our favorite outsourcing partner for years.

Are there any areas for improvement?

The main issue we both face is balancing budgetary constraints and QC requirements. If we used their QC services, it would double the cost of the project due to WordPress’ inefficiencies as a development platform. Therefore, we keep QC internal and provide NBT the information to correct the issues we find. We’ve reduced the volume of rework necessary by following specific development procedures, however.

We can deliver complete websites to clients in just a few weeks. By eliminating the need for manual data collection and entry, our clients have experienced a reduced workload of up to fifteen hours per week. They can continue to work in our platform without having to learn additional skills in WordPress.

Once Amit comprehended our project goals, he quickly put processes into place to train the team. Amit carefully facilitates the size of the development team on a month-to-month basis. The team was very competent.

We have been astounded by the team’s commitment to providing the best quality. They are incredibly engaged in the project and knowledgeable about the subject matter. Amit assigns developers to our project depending on our need, which means there is no limit to the number of sites we can develop at once. We were so happy with the result we decided to set an additional goal of adding additional videos - which required an implementation of caching of the videos - making the new addition rather complex.

With English not being their first language, communication was difficult at times. However, we able to work this issues with diagrams and mock-ups. Other than that, it is hard to fault the team.
