My company is called Lean Case, which is a startup that I am bootstrapping out of my consulting company. I am the CEO and Founder.

What challenge were you trying to address with Jappware?

Lean Case is a business modeling and planning tool on the cloud, and I had a mockup in the very first version with very simple models, but I needed to develop an architecture for the platform that could support the calculations and models so that we could inject code on the fly without having to hard code them into the platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Jappware came up with the architecture from scratch to allow us to add calculations into the model through a modifiable layer in the code. They started with the backend development and handled the full stack from there, including UI and Java with Angular and MongoDB. Designs for the platform were provided by a third-party, but they handle the product QA as well.

What is the team composition?

Their team is about 5–6 people in total, including two QA leads, one UI, and two lead developers for the project.

How did you come to work with Jappware?

I found them on Upwork and was very impressed by their CEO's understanding of business requirements and how to translate those into an effective code architecture.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about €300,000 so far (approximately $324,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

The project began in early 2017 and we are continuing to work together today.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’ve been very happy with the quality of the work that they have provided. They also come up with their own ideas, which makes them a good sounding board for anything that we are thinking about adding to the product. They consistently demonstrate their commitment to the work, which I really appreciate.

For example, a customer found a really interesting bug recently, and even though it wasn’t an obvious case their team was able to identify and fix it within the day. Our customer was very happy with the service they got, which reflected very well on us.

How did Jappware perform from a project management standpoint?

We have daily standups whenever we need them. They always do a good job of preparing well for meetings and listening to what we have to say. Beyond those, we use Slack, Atlassian, and JIRA to communicate and keep track of all our project milestones and deliverables.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They make our job very easy, which not all development houses do. We are able to rely on them not just to do the work, but to take care of any issues that come up in the process without having to be told exactly what to do.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I think they are working to improve on the UI and design side, which is not their strongest suit, but even in that case they generally do a good job.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

As with any outsource developer, at the beginning of the project, you need to be very specific about what you want. As you establish a workflow you can ease into more casual communication, but it is important to communicate very clearly when you start so that everyone is on the same page.

The performance of the Jappware team has accelerated, and we’ve seen increased feature delivery and reduced bugs. For example, we’ve seen a 10% increase in features released per month.

We enable fund managers and asset managers to raise capital and close funds faster and more efficiently across 100 jurisdictions.

Jappware supercharged the IT company’s engineering capabilities, seamlessly integrating with the internal team. They delivered high-impact backend and frontend development, enhanced our frontend framework, built a powerful set of fintech modules, and crafted an intuitive workflow configurator — all while expertly driving project management.

Thanks to Jappware’s strong technical contribution and steady collaboration, we successfully completed a full system rewrite and continuously shipped new features and improvements using an agile approach. Even more importantly, our end clients noticed — and appreciated — the enhanced capabilities and smoother experience delivered by the revamped system.

Their level of commitment was remarkable, especially given the severe challenge of living and working in a country at war.

Are there any areas they could improve?

If anything, we would have welcomed even more proactive pushback when requirements from our business team lacked clarity. A bit more assertiveness in those moments could have made the process even smoother, but this is just the cherry-cherry on the cake. We thank Jappware and their whole team a ton for what they've brought to the table!

What was the scope of their involvement?

Jappware is providing us with web-based platform development services. The platform will help run know-your-customer (KYC) checks of investors on private equity funds — the software generates documents based on user inputs. It will help other regulated entities that need to run KYC and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks. 

Jappware handles all of the back- and frontend system development but isn't designing the new platform. The current platform uses Python and Angular, but Jappware is developing the new backend in Java Spring Boot and the frontend in Angular. They're developing smart flow and form builders that will help create documents. Once development is complete, Jappware will take over platform maintenance. 

What is the team composition?

We work with about six teammates from Jappware, including a QA teammate and senior, mid-level, and junior back- and frontend developers. 

How did you come to work with Jappware?

We found Jappware through an acquaintance who was working with them on another project. 

How much have you invested with them?

We've invested around €60,000 (approximately $64,000 USD) with Jappware. 

What is the status of this engagement?

Our engagement with Jappware began in January 2022, and it's ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Jappware is still working on the project, and so far, we're really satisfied with their work. They think critically and question the project specifications and requirements to ensure their deliverables match our overall project goals. Jappware has exceeded my expectations — I'm 100% satisfied with their work so far. 

How did Jappware perform from a project management standpoint?

Jappware stays within our budget and timeline. We primarily communicate through Trello, a shared Slack channel, and Jira. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Jappware is an exceptional external service provider because they dedicate specific teammates to our project — the developers we're working with aren't working on three other projects, just ours. This allows their developers to concentrate on our needs and understand exactly what they need to build. In comparison to other vendors, Jappware communicates well and acts as part of our in-house team. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I have nothing specific for Jappware to improve. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I'd advise customers to ensure that the developer they're working with from Jappware is only working on their project. Other than that, I'd advise customers to thoroughly onboard Jappware's teammates and lay out their project goals.
