Three things make them stand out: 

1. Strong Engineering culture - which is very closely aligned with our Engineering culture so the Jappware team became an extension of our team 

2. High quality standards - it was very important for us that they could meet our high bar and they did 

3. Extremely intelligent and strong Engineers - they are basically Silicon Valley level engineers, who were able to work on par with our team And on top of this, sinceit's a boutique company, the CEO is extremely involved and CARES about every client - regular check ins, staying on top of delivery etc. Excellent Customer Service is a huge bonus!

We have been working with Japware for the last 3 years. They have built our Enterprise recruiting platform, Connect from the ground up. This includes 3 main pieces of the platform. First the Enterprise web application that houses almost 1M of our candidates, their profiles, and a lot of data that those candidates offer up. Connect is a marketplace in which clients and candidates can find each other.

Second the machine learning that we dubbed Just in Time talent in which multiple machine learning algorithms find candidates that are the right fits for the roles that we have open and then outreach to them through hubspot automatically. Third, they created a chrome extension that automatically pulls information from the internet to fill in profiles of the candidate in our platform.

We now have over 150 of the top tech companies in the US as customers on our platform and we wouldn't have been able to do it without Jappware.

We're working together as one company, its a partnership, not client/vendor relation ship. Team as well as the managements understands our product, domain and needs. The team size was flexible depending on the workload. If more or less effort was needed, the appropriate number of people were added or removed.

Outcomes from the project: The app has been released in time and is performing well for users. The client has already suggested to us that they would like to keep this same development team to oversee the next version.

We worked within sprints that were divided by scope of tasks. Communication was via Slack including weekly meetings where they were always on time. We had points of contact who were always there if we had questions.

Clients requirements often changed, but Jappware team stayed really flexible and client oriented. They are professionals in healthcare app development, and that is no doubt.

We were looking to build a special project team to work certain urgent projects, but it was challenging to find good professionals for a reasonable price in a short time-frame, so we decided to hire a dedicated team to work independently on those projects

Jappware provides custom software development and staff augmentation services. They presented us with several software developers to meet our specifications. After the approval we went through multiple project scoping sessions. The whole onboarding process took us up to 2-3 weeks.

We used Jappware to develop several standalone and urgent projects. We also augmented several of our teams with Jappware staff. They help us to fulfill backend, frontend and QA positions very quickly.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Jappware delivered on their promises - both with well scoped projects as well as various staffing / augmentation requests which were fulfilled quickly and with great people.

We have direct line to Jappware's senior management who are highly responsive and take care promptly of every request we may have.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They were very flexible and able to quickly onboard and offboard highly skilled professionals. Also with predefined project work things are a smooth sail.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Where it comes to team augmentation I think it is worth investing (on both sides) a few more days in expectation alignment with the teams, so that everyone are on the same page where it comes to processes and how things are done.

I’m the founder and CEO of a software company and the software is driven for the death care industry, so funeral homes and crematoriums. It is a SaaS offering to the customers.

What challenge were you trying to address with Jappware?

We were looking for a good firm and to outsource the development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They use Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deliver the product and everything is coded in Java. The previous firm was using an outdated version of Java so Jappware updated it because there were security flaws. Jappware also built out a custom API into our bank.

What is the team composition?

We work with Andriy (CEO) and he helps with the payment process and oversees the quality. We also work with Olesia (Team Lead),  Ivan (CTO), and about four others.

How did you come to work with Jappware?

I originally went with another firm and there were constant struggles with understanding requirements and complex payment processing in the app. The team was having a hard time understanding it and we got tired of essentially wasting time and money. So after I found Jappware on Upwork, it came down to them and another firm and I felt more comfortable with Jappware. Jappware seemed like a smaller, tight-knit team and that they had more experience on the payment front.

How much have you invested with them?

We pay a flat rate of $5,000 per month.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in March 2020 and have been working together since.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They provide really good service.

How did Jappware perform from a project management standpoint?

They manage deadlines great and communicate well. The hardest part is the time difference, so most of our meetings are between 8–9 am our time and 5–6 pm their time. We have a two-week sprint set up, so it’s very agile development. We typically use Slack and email to communicate and JIRA to tracks stories and epics. 

Once a week we also have a Google Meet conference. Our teams communicate multiple times a week and sometimes multiple times a day. Once they finish the sprint, we have a sprint acceptance meeting and we go through all the items that were supposed to be worked on. Then we have a demo meeting and I either accept it or not; then we go onto the next sprint.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They speak really great English and it’s really easy to communicate with them. What I like the most is that they feel like part of the team, which I didn’t have with the previous team. They care and make suggestions a lot. The team always mentions if they think they can do something better, which I think is unique. 

I wanted a partnership and someone that would be invested rather than being paid to do the bare minimum, and that’s what I got. They stay late or come in early so we can talk because of the time difference, which I really appreciate. I’ve really enjoyed working with them and they’re a great group of people.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there are none.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They move through tasks pretty quickly and they’re really smart, so make sure you have a roadmap in mind or you may quickly run out of tasks because they’re very efficient. Be ready to hit the ground running.

I’m the founder of a financial business.

What challenge were you trying to address with Jappware?

We’re building a fintech solution aimed at giving people the likelihood of their mortgage being approved before they apply — pre-application eligibility.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We brought Jappware in to build the solution from scratch and up to the launch. It’s all going to be web-based, accessible from desktops and mobile phones. We have a separate designer working on the look and feel, and Jappware is taking care of the front- and backend development. They’re working in Java and have a long list of technologies, but I’m not familiar with those.

What is the team composition?

I believe they have four people on the project. Andriy (Founder and CEO) is my main contact.

How did you come to work with Jappware?

I did a lot of research online and spoke to different companies. It’s quite a complex solution, and many people didn’t understand where to start. I believe I found Jappware on a freelancing site, and we had an open discussion. I flew to Ukraine to meet him and found that they knew what I was talking about.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $40,000–$50,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

I started working with Jappware around May 2019. The project is ongoing and we haven’t launched yet. We should’ve been live next month, but we probably won’t be live for a while now with the Coronavirus situation.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They’re very good. Andriy is very switched on and intelligent and grasps complex processes quickly. He didn’t have a background in mortgages, but he grasped it quickly and translated what we needed into code and into a working solution. We’ll have a better idea about the platform once it’s live but we’re still building it.

How did Jappware perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re really good. We’re using Bitbucket and Slack. I believe they were using Jira, but they stopped. Slack is the most common tool we use for communication.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m a non-tech person, and Jappware is the first company I’ve worked with. They’re pretty good, but I haven’t used any other tech companies, so it’s hard to answer. Andriy understands the problem.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The functionality of the platform is tricky to explain even to an industry expert. Trying to explain it to someone who’s never done mortgages is even tougher, but they’ve done well. There’s nothing I could say that they could do better. I’m really happy with them. They’re motivated and they want to help. I can see that Andriy really cares about the business and wants it to do well.

Clients should be very clear and specific about what they want.

We hired Jappware because we’ve been transitioning from a typical recruiting services company into a software company with a platform.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They typically provide software development. I’ve worked with the Andriy (Founder, Jappware) on many different projects. Initially, they did a backend Java service, which was pulling a lot of database manipulations. Andriy recently built a Chrome plug-in extension. I have an extended contract with them that allows us to keep going back to them for either enhancement to work they’ve already provided or new capabilities.

What is the team composition?

Andriy is my main point of contact. He hands off work to others but I haven’t had contact with anyone else.

How did you come to work with Jappware?

We were referred to them by our vice president of finance; they worked with them at a previous company. I scheduled a meeting with them and gave them an initial smaller project to work on and they turned it around quickly with high quality. That’s why we’ve formed this ongoing relationship and as soon as I have needs, they deliver.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $90,000–$110,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in December 2018 and the relationship is ongoing. The extended contract is based on a month-to-month basis and either of us can cancel at any time.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Everyone at our company that uses their deliverables has been ecstatic. The Chrome extension that was recently built is probably the most used piece of software in our company right now.

How did Jappware perform from a project management standpoint?

We typically use Slack to communicate, but can also get on the phone if needed. They’re very responsive; even having a major time difference with them being in Ukraine, they respond within a few hours. They also have access to our Jira and GitHub, so they check directly in and out with them. 

We don’t typically need to have daily or weekly meetings because I trust their work. I generally give them what needs to be done and then after a few days or a week I get the first deliverable. At the end of each deliverable, Andriy tells me he’s checked it by code and it’s ready to be looked at. We play it by ear depending on the appropriate level of interaction we need.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The quality has been very good and more than that the efficiency in which we work together is impressive. Because they’re offshore, being able to have that direct communication with them and have them just get it without having to provide a lot of details with a lot of specs has been really great. They’re so flexible and I can just have a conversation with them. If anything comes back that we don’t like, they’ll change it with no questions asked. They can work with a low amount of detail and still produce high-quality results, which is huge for me because I’m stretched thin with a lot of different things going on.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I can’t think of anything right now.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have interactive discussions when thinking about designing rather than just saying what you want and telling them to build exactly that. It has been more beneficial to me to talk through conceptually what I want to achieve. They have a lot of skills around architecture and design, which is why you should get them engaged in the process with you.

My company is called Lean Case, which is a startup that I am bootstrapping out of my consulting company. I am the CEO and Founder.

What challenge were you trying to address with Jappware?

Lean Case is a business modeling and planning tool on the cloud, and I had a mockup in the very first version with very simple models, but I needed to develop an architecture for the platform that could support the calculations and models so that we could inject code on the fly without having to hard code them into the platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Jappware came up with the architecture from scratch to allow us to add calculations into the model through a modifiable layer in the code. They started with the backend development and handled the full stack from there, including UI and Java with Angular and MongoDB. Designs for the platform were provided by a third-party, but they handle the product QA as well.

What is the team composition?

Their team is about 5–6 people in total, including two QA leads, one UI, and two lead developers for the project.

How did you come to work with Jappware?

I found them on Upwork and was very impressed by their CEO's understanding of business requirements and how to translate those into an effective code architecture.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about €300,000 so far (approximately $324,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

The project began in early 2017 and we are continuing to work together today.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’ve been very happy with the quality of the work that they have provided. They also come up with their own ideas, which makes them a good sounding board for anything that we are thinking about adding to the product. They consistently demonstrate their commitment to the work, which I really appreciate.

For example, a customer found a really interesting bug recently, and even though it wasn’t an obvious case their team was able to identify and fix it within the day. Our customer was very happy with the service they got, which reflected very well on us.

How did Jappware perform from a project management standpoint?

We have daily standups whenever we need them. They always do a good job of preparing well for meetings and listening to what we have to say. Beyond those, we use Slack, Atlassian, and JIRA to communicate and keep track of all our project milestones and deliverables.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They make our job very easy, which not all development houses do. We are able to rely on them not just to do the work, but to take care of any issues that come up in the process without having to be told exactly what to do.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I think they are working to improve on the UI and design side, which is not their strongest suit, but even in that case they generally do a good job.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

As with any outsource developer, at the beginning of the project, you need to be very specific about what you want. As you establish a workflow you can ease into more casual communication, but it is important to communicate very clearly when you start so that everyone is on the same page.
