Our internal team is great at maintaining and evolving our core platform, but AI/ML integration was a genuine gap. We didn't have the in-house expertise to build what we were envisioning, document summarization, clause extraction, intelligent contract flagging, and we didn't have 18 months to hire and build a team from scratch.

We evaluated a few vendors. InvoZone wasn't the cheapest option, but they were the only team that came back to our initial brief with specific, well-reasoned recommendations about model selection and architecture rather than a generic 'we'll use GPT' answer. 

They actually pushed back on one feature we'd assumed would be straightforward and explained why a retrieval-augmented approach would serve our use case better than fine-tuning. That conversation alone told us they knew what they were talking about.

The team included two AI engineers, a backend developer to handle the integration layer, and a part-time QA resource. They worked closely with our internal team throughout.

We shipped two big releases on time, which, if I'm being honest, hadn't happened in a while before this. Our QA specialist introduced some regression testing practices that we've now fully adopted as a team standard. Bug resolution time got noticeably faster.

Any time something wasn't quite right, InvoZone's account manager was on it quickly. At one point, we flagged that one of the developers wasn't the best fit for our culture, and they made a swap within a week without any drama. That kind of responsiveness matters a lot.

What stood out most was just how self-directed everyone was. I didn't need to micromanage. They took ownership.

The DevOps engineer built us a CI/CD pipeline that made deployments something we actually look forward to rather than dread.

The biggest thing for me was consistency. Same people, month after month, who actually understood our domain and cared about the outcome. That's hard to find. When something came up, they didn't wait to be told; instead, they flagged it, suggested a solution, and moved. The project manager, in particular, was exceptional at keeping things transparent without turning every update into a lengthy status meeting.

If I had to mention one thing, then it would be that the first couple of sprints were a bit slower as they got up to speed on the complexity of lending compliance. But honestly, that's just reality when you're building something this specialized, and they picked it up faster than I expected.

I'd work with them again without hesitation. In fact, we still are.

One area for improvement would be around proactive communication and anticipating downstream impacts of changes. There were a few moments during the project where changes were made without fully thinking through how they’d affect other parts of the workflow. As a result, we encountered some avoidable rework and additional adjustments later on.

With stronger foresight and earlier flagging of potential ripple effects, the process could have been smoother. That said, the team was always responsive and willing to course-correct quickly when these situations came up.
