I'm the CMO of UKROLIYA, one of the largest Ukrainian manufacturer of sunflower oil. We export to more than 40 countries, and our current business priority is the production of value-added products in the professional culinary and high-oleic sunflower organic oils segments.

The first project was developing the website for EFFO TM, one of our B2B oil brands for professional cooking and the food service industry. They analyzed the market and our competitors, gaining a better understanding of our needs and expectations. From there, we agreed on a dev plan and budget, defining all the tasks concerning our target audience, strategy, and visual references. Two of the defined audiences were large international companies looking for long-term cooperation and small to medium-sized companies looking for organic oil. This helped us to determine the main goals of the project and understand the points of interaction for our sales teams.

When we began the web dev stage, they worked on both our corporate site and the EFFO TM site. We collaborated on UX/UI, wireframes, design, and content creation. Once those were finished, they then started on the site for our and main brand, UKROLIYA.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Our projects were developed with a unique design, attention to details of usability, and a modern look. The new sites fit the image of our company and our values. Both projects reached our planned goals, and they each met requirements for responsiveness and cross-browser and cross-platform usage. We've tested both sites on various parameters and got a complete test report. Now, we can get any statistical data about our users, which is helpful for business efficiency.

They were organized and managed the project well. The communication was clear and effective; we spoke via phone and shared documents through email.

I was impressed with their professionalism, client-oriented approach, and ability to work with a tight deadline.

There is very little they could improve. My only suggestion is to be better at design.

We needed to redesign our website and brand book to bring them more up to date.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started out thinking that we’d just redesign our existing website, but realized during the course of the project that we actually needed two separate ones to target different consumer groups. We ultimately set up one site for potential customers interested in our full range of services and another exclusively for out-of-the-box products.

Our main need was an overhaul to make the sites mobile-friendly. We also customized each one so that they displayed different kinds of product information—on the ready-made content, we wanted the prices visible, but we didn’t need that for the customized offerings. Once the sites were ready, they worked with us on SEO and improved our analytics reporting.

In terms of branding, they worked with us to develop a new logo and then we used that to redesign all of our branding materials, like business cards and slide presentation themes. We went into it thinking we would only use these materials for our business clients, then realize we could branch out further, so that required more time on the design stage. Goldweb Solutions gave us more than 30 new logo variants to evaluate. We selected five, after which they helped us set up focus groups to identify the best one.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We hadn’t been too aware of our metrics prior to carrying out this project. The team from Goldweb Solutions sat with us at the beginning to help us choose several analytics benchmarks to focus on, like the numbers of visitors and leads generated by our website. We now know how to monitor and interpret all of that data, and we’ve also worked on building up our social media profiles.

They were well-organized and we collaborated well. Prior to beginning the project, they met with us to establish a timeline. We ended up falling a bit behind schedule, but that was our fault because we changed our minds about what we wanted to do with our branding materials.

They struck a nice balance of technical and artistic expertise, which is impressive since IT and art are very different. We needed help not only with the technical elements of the website, but also with diving into our brand and reinventing it.

I can’t identify any serious issues, but maybe things would’ve gone more efficiently with a more experienced project manager. From my understanding, their team contained people with a wide range of experience levels.

The key advantage for us is they have a good understanding of and experience in marketing. This allows them to provide a strong product for our customers. When we have no direction or weak ideas, they're flexible enough to support us. They help us with the requirements and technical specifications.

When it comes to working with a small company like us, they should reduce the number of confirmation stages because it takes time to discuss every change and idea. Everything else is fine, and I have no significant complaints.

We wanted a new website because ours was 10 years old and out of date. We also wanted to come up with a new, modern name for our company because it was operating under two names.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed a modern, simple website for us that would be clear and easy for users. In the beginning, we studied some of our competitors' sites with pros and cons and expressed to them how we wanted our unique design to look. We then collaborated on the structure of the site. For the naming project, they came up with 50 possible options and also designed a logo for us. The bulk of the project is over, but we’re still working together to build our presence in the Polish market – we’re going to have a bilingual website.

NOMINA is an independent, interactive book project about famous Ukrainians. Its purpose was to get people interested in those people again. The book wasn't finished after it was published; it's still alive on our Facebook page. We wanted to publish a second edition.

It's about the past, but it was really important that we make it look modern to attract young people. As the conceptual editor, I was responsible for the book and website's appearance.

We needed help with web development and design. The perfect design was really important to me.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They designed and developed our website. Their first concept looked vintage, which I didn’t want, but the second one was brilliant. They adapted to our vision and made it compatible with multiple devices. There was no challenge with the designs.

They added a video to the front page of the site. I wanted our little gallery of portraits to be interactive. When you click on the page, there’s some information about each person. Now the photos are active. I wrote all the text for the website, but they helped shorten it and improve the messaging. We talked about the target audience and the message that would make people want to buy the book.

As the final step, I asked them to add a payment system connected to a bank. They adapted my text, photos, and videos to the site. In the beginning, they helped us with Facebook content for free.

They were very good with project management. I gave them all the information, and there were no misunderstandings.

We used phone and email. They sent me briefs, divided the project into small parts, and told me what I would see in a week, in a month, and in the final phase. They sent me updates, to which I added corrections or suggestions. Then they made changes. For the final steps, we met in person. It was a pleasant work process.

I loved their visuals. I had no problem with the technical part, but they worked with a really good designer. Design is the strong point of their work.

Be specific about your vision. Don’t accept less than what you want, and don’t agree with the first idea they give you if it’s not what you really want. If you know what you want, you’ll get it.

I am the marketing manager for Ice Cream Service LLC. We offer soft ice cream mixes and gelato ingredients, as well as accessories and everything needed for ice cream packaging and sales.

We needed web development help.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Before we started to work, we reached an agreement and I knew the tasks they needed to do. Because we sell so many types of products, they divided the website into two parts and developed different technical tasks for each part.

In the beginning, when we were working on the design, at their suggestion, we defined our target customer. They helped us to create some good messages and select the right color scheme for our website, using some of our branding along the way. Along the way, they gave us several variations on the homepage design.

They worked on balancing usability and UX. They set up SSL link security and wireframed each page, each of which was subsequently approved by our director. Then, they moved everything to the frontend, which was all done in Joomla. They designed the site to be responsive across Windows, Android, and iOS platforms.

We started working with them in October 2017 and launched the site earlier this month.

We have already had positive reviews from our customers on the site’s user-friendliness. Goldweb sent us a file that ranks the website by different parameters and we were already ranked highly. We plan to add new categories to the site in the future.

How did Goldweb Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

We were difficult to work with. We are a very young team and it was difficult for us to make long-term decisions about the site. It also was difficult for them to work with us because of our varying requirements.

We communicated primarily through email. Anytime I had any questions, they responded within five minutes. For other companies we’ve worked with, it’s taken much longer to get back to us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

As our product is seasonal, we wanted to have the website completed by the end of March. They were able to complete it earlier than that, allowing us to focus on advertising.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It took us a long time to approve the design. If they brought on additional designers, it might be easier to work with clients like us.

Before developing a website, think through all of your needs and requirements to determine exactly what you want. In our case, we knew we wanted a new website, but didn’t know what we wanted, which made it difficult for Goldweb to understand what we wanted. As a result, we had to go over the requirements.
