We came to Empat with a product discovery stage completed with a different vendor. After multiple user interviews we realized that our UX and UI were to complicated for users to understand. The goal for Empat was simple:
1. Redesign the UI/UX based on user feedback
2. Include the changes that we provided for the product pivot
3. Suggest alternatives for the pre-defined tech stack

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Empat team successfully conducted a round of user interviews (searched for them, reached out to them and used their feedback) with 10 users. 

The product design went through a complete overhaul that was later validated with the users. 

The tech stack went through a couple of iterations and serveral adjustments were made that allowed us to save approx 20% of the MVP budget estimate

We had a PM and a tech-lead assigned as key points of contact. We had a chance to also work with the design lead and overall the communication was extremely smooth

The team understood the importance of the project, was able to analyze the existing structure and adjusted to ensure smooth results. I know from experience that many companies prefer to "do things from scratch" but I am grateful to Empat team for the extra effort in understanding our project status and goals.

In my experience the overall cooperation went extremely smooth. Naturally we had a few hickups (as any other project) mostly coming from our end (delays in responses, unclear instructions etc) but Empat team was very professional in handling those.

This was a major project.

We are an online dating service, where service can be accessed via website and app. Our systems are delibertely more complex, as we focus on quality of membership and not mere quanitity. As such the coding is extremely complicated to not least enable as genuine membership as possible. From screening to automated reviews, complex rules between types of members etc.

Our previous IT team had just finished the very comprehensive and complex task to replace legacy of website with the language of new app. The new IT team was responsible for building a completely new app in flutter, while importantly facilitating a seamless interface with all serverside setup and technology as well as the website and website users.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the product owner of Contendi, a legal services platform dealing with important and public legal cases from big companies like Mercedes Benz and Toyota. On our platform, people can apply for us to help them with their public cases, and we take them through the whole process in court to help them win those cases.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Empat?

We needed help with app development. Moreover, we needed someone to overhaul our website because it wasn’t working very well.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Empat has developed our web and mobile app solutions. We started the project by outlining a set of questions and conducting interviews with potential customers to identify the best features for our product. After that, Empat created the design and clickable prototype of our mobile app, as well as the redesign of our website.

Empat also did a code review of our existing website and saw that it was a standard website, so they decided to continue working with the existing code to improve it. This part of their work has included adding new features to the site. Empat has also developed and tested our app, and their work has included project management.

As for the technology stack, Empat has used Swift and Kotlin to develop the app, as our goal was to have a native app for both iOS and Android. They’ve also used PHP for the backend development, Laravel Nova for the administration panel development, and Figma for the designs. As for the website, they’ve used React on the frontend and PHP on the backend.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with eight teammates from Empat, including a product manager, two developers for fronted app development, a backend app developer, a web developer, a tester, a designer, and the CTO.

How did you come to work with Empat?

We were looking for a reliable web and app development partner online, and Clutch was the first website where we found Empat.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $150,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working around August 2021, and our engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Thus far, the results have been very good, as we expected them. Empat has stuck to the agreed-upon scope and delivered two great product solutions. They’ve also given us excellent suggestions. Now, we’re where we wanted to be and are moving towards where we wanted to move.

How did Empat perform from a project management standpoint?

Empat has delivered everything on time and met our deadlines. We use email for more formal communication, WhatsApp for daily communication, and Google Meet for our weekly meetings.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Empat’s product manager is very skillful and has done high-quality product interviews, thinking about our app from a very broad perspective. Moreover, the CTO has found the best solution for our product, which is very complex. Besides them, all the developers have been very friendly and nice to work with.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Empat is very good at listening to what we need from our products. There was one time when they suggested something that wasn’t exactly what we wanted, but it was the best solution for us. We really appreciated that proactiveness because Empat was thinking from a future product perspective, identifying what would be important for us regarding a scalable architecture.

Even for the first versions of our product, Empat didn’t build them quickly just to rebuild them again in the future. Instead, they created a scalable architecture from the start, which was very important for us.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything Empat could improve on.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Don’t skip the discovery phase. Empat will help you reevaluate the potential value of the products you want — they’re very good at it. Discovery is a very valuable step heading into product development.
