Unfortunately, my experience with Dot IT was disappointing, particularly regarding their after-sales service. Despite receiving a notification that our website was finished, over 70% of the basic functions for an online store were missing upon review. This was not the standard I expected from an experienced company, especially given the premium price we paid.

While we worked together to address the feedback, I ended up contributing to the development process myself to expedite progress. After making the final payment—on the understanding that we would continue refining the website during the agreed three-month technical support period—I was met with limited follow-up on my comments.

I provided organized feedback in a Google Doc, categorized as critical or normal, expecting proactive communication and updates. Instead, I had to engage in constant follow-ups, a process I only expect when working with freelancers, not professional agencies. This lack of initiative was frustrating, especially as I had communicated my prior negative experiences with freelancers and chose Dot IT for a seamless, professional service.

Additionally, while we agreed to use the same server and hosting, the basic theme used was a surprise. I had anticipated more effort in redesigning the site, particularly as that was the primary reason for the contract.

What I found most impressive about Dot IT was their initial communication and willingness to understand our needs. At the start, they were responsive and seemed genuinely committed to delivering a professional service.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Dot IT could have done differently?

Yes, there are a few areas for improvement. Firstly, after the initial communication, follow-up and responsiveness decreased significantly. More proactive communication and consistent updates on the progress of feedback would have made the process smoother. Additionally, the missing core functions for the online store, despite paying a premium, was disappointing. A more thorough approach to redesigning the website, especially in terms of functionality, would have aligned better with the expectations set at the start. Furthermore, connecting the client directly with the web developer, rather than involving an intermediary, would streamline the process and reduce delays. Also their CEO should know how to satisfy the customers.

We needed to update our website and make it modern. Our main goal was to generate leads leveraging our website as a brand recognition and brand awareness tool, using it along with Google and social media to promote our brand and service.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Dot IT provided us with website design, development, and launch implementation. The team used WordPress to develop a new and up-to-date website for us. Initially, they walked us through what needed to be done. Then, we went into a full content implementation phase. Shortly after that, we went through the design, development, and implementation phases.

Our website has short and easy-to-consume information on the landing page, which includes different design elements, videos, pop-ups, scrolling bars, and animations. It also has several pages, one of them grouping our six product solutions. Moreover, it has multiple resource tabs, such as an about us section with information about our company, what we do, who we are, and our leadership team. It also has brochures and other videos.

As for the functionality, our website has multiple logins for the different apps that we provide, as well as a contact page with our calls to action. On that page, visitors can get in touch with us quickly and easily. 

What is the team composition?

I communicated directly with Mohammed (Founder). I knew there were other teams working on different parts of the project, but I didn't know how big those were.

How did you come to work with Dot IT?

Our CTO, who also lives and works from Egypt, recommended them. However, I don't know exactly how she found them. Still, we had a call to determine if they were the right vendor for us. Mohammed was very well-spoken and quickly understood where we were going, as well as what our main goals and needs were. Therefore, we moved forward with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $5,000 CAD (approximately $3,700 USD). However, we expect to continue doing some other work with them, including SEO, so that amount will probably increase.

What is the status of this engagement?

We kicked off the project in April 2023. A lot of the early implementation started in May 2023, and the bulk of the project took place around August 2023. The website launch took place in January 2024. However, we'll continue working on other areas of the website. For example, they're helping us implement Google Analytics.

Dot IT's work met our expectations. Our entire company loved the website, its design, and its flow of information. We had a lot of talented people working on this project, and the reception of our staff was amazing. We're no longer embarrassed to show our website to other people. Now, visitors are staying on our website and getting really good information.

How did Dot IT perform from a project management standpoint?

From what I've heard regarding other web development projects, ours was a pretty decently short process. Of course, we wanted it to be done sooner, but that's probably what most clients want. Dot IT had no flaws in their management, as they were quick to respond and implement changes.

Dot IT definitely delivered the website within budget, too. As for collaboration tools, they used Trello for project management. Additionally, we communicated via email and Google Meet. We also used Google Docs and Google Drive to organize our documents.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I would like to congratulate the entire Dot IT team and highlight their achievements. From the start, they showed great interest in our project and presented us with an excellent analytical concept for our SEO.

While they were pitching us, they gave us a semi-comprehensive breakdown of our SEO analytics. No one else had done that, so it distinguished them from their competitors.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Although our communication could have been better, that was on both sides. We had a couple of months amidst the project, during which we experienced rough miscommunication patches. Still, I didn't blame anyone for this issue. We could have done this project a bit faster without those issues, but Dot IT's project management was clean.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Communicate very clearly and ask for a clear roadmap broken down into small chunks. If you do that and stay on top of the project, your website will be done properly, on budget, and on time.

In terms of project delivery, they’re great — they were able to deliver the project within three weeks. They also have great teamwork and are very professional whenever I ask them to fix or redesign something. In terms of communication, we use WhatsApp and emails.

They are fast and professional in their outstanding service. They’re also very kind to customers and willing to help with anything, even after completing the project. They’re also very visionary; that is important because sometimes I have ideas, but I don't know how to transform them into something tangible — they care to advise me on how to bring my ideas to life.

They then started to build the site out according to our feedback. We initially had another hosting provider, but the website worked better on Dot IT’s hosting solution, so we decided to stick with them. 

Dot IT continues to maintain the site, which is available in both English and Arabic. It features a contact form, a floating banner on the homepage, and more.

A team of 3–4 worked in the background, but I only spoke with the founder and director.

I researched various companies online and asked for some proposals. Dot IT suggested having a phone call to discuss what we wanted for the website, and it went well. Price-wise, their offer was also reasonable, so we decided to go with them.

We didn’t use any project management tool, but we communicated over email, WhatsApp, and phone calls. Their replies were always quick and on point, and if we had any issues, they would get in touch with us immediately. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

It was a very smooth process — we were delighted with their services. Even now, we know we can always reach out to Dot IT and receive a swift reply.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could’ve provided more frequent status updates. However, this wasn’t something that really bothered me.

Prepare your content very well and think everything through. Also, be sure to communicate throughout the process.
