We had a concept for a healthcare app and needed it developed to an MVP. Dev Technosys was capable of taking it beyond the MVP. They also have experience developing mHealth applications.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Dev Technosys has been helping me from start to finish. I had a concept of what I wanted and some notes, but it wasn’t where it needed to be for development. Their developers conducted extensive interviews to take the concept from the notes and what I had in mind. They developed a project based upon that information.

The app is for iOS. It’s a unique app in the fact that it utilizes VA (Veterans Affairs) healthcare records. The VA has given us access to an API to obtain veteran records. By creating a bridge from the app to those records, all veterans can access their VA records. I haven’t seen that done anywhere else, so that’s one of our unique value propositions that Dev Technosys was able to help me bring to life.

There was a marketing individual that walked me through the project. Then, there was a project manager. Rather than speaking to individual developers, I had one point of contact so that I didn’t have to navigate their internal structure.

How did you come to work with Dev Technosys?

We found them through a search, and they had some very good reviews.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent close to $30,000, if not a bit more.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our work together began in October 2019, and it’s ongoing. We’ve had to put it on pause due to COVID-19.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They’re very responsive. I have access to the development server, so I’ve been able to check their progress. They let me know when they post something. We’ll talk through any issues, and then I’ll see them fixed. Obviously, there will still be bugs once the app is launched, but from what I’ve been able to see so far, they’ve been very responsive to any changes we’ve requested or bugs we’ve found.

How did Dev Technosys perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been excellent. I’ve worked with other developers in the past, and Dev Technosys is responsive. I don’t feel like they’re trying to charge me for every change that they make. They want to help fix issues. Communication is normally through email or WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their actual process, from bringing the customer in, taking the concept, and bringing the project alive, is their advantage over some other developers. When they intake clients, they put together the software development agreement, where they lay it all out in terms of the concept and what the project will look like. Many developers will say they can make your concept happen, but then you get into the project, and it overruns by six months. Dev Technosys is very well organized in getting the client to understand what the project will look like; they get all of your requirements during the beginning phases.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Honestly, I can’t think of anything that I wish they’d do differently. They’ve been pretty flexible. There have been times where I didn’t have the ability to communicate with them a lot because I was overseas and didn’t have access to comms, but they pressed on. I was in a part of Afghanistan that had horrible internet. However, when I was able to get connectivity, I’d check my email and see that they were asking me questions and providing updates. Their communication was better than mine.

They’re persistent in trying to get the work done. They don’t call 4–5 times a day to ensure payments are made. Everything is smooth, from the beginning to the end of their process.

Any advice for potential customers?

Be highly engaging from day one. When you’re trying to set the requirements and provide input, there will be a lot of back and forth, but they help you mold your project based upon their experience developing similar projects. They’ll let you know what will or will not work. Keep your expectations in check; one app can’t do everything.

I like that they talk about your customers as well. Figure out what the value-add to your customers is, and they’ll have that conversation with you regarding whether the app will or will not work.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The site isn’t live, but we can see how it works. The website is based on their server, which they gave us access to. They shared a link that we can click on to know if something is updated.

How did Dev Technosys perform from a project management standpoint?

The project manager reports to us twice a week about what’s going on. They are good about getting us updates if we need them. The only issue is the time difference; we have to wait to start working according to their office time.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re very responsive to whatever we need. They reply the same day or right away. They also have good customer service. If we send them a message at midnight, they get back with us the moment that they wake up in the morning.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only thing I can think of is if they were in the same country, it’d be easier for us. Otherwise, everything is okay; we just have to adjust according to their time zone.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I’ve recommended them a couple of times. I plan to use them for another project I have coming very soon. I’m satisfied with what they do.

I'm the general manager of a supermarket chain in Tanzania. At present, we have six branches. We’re one of the first supermarket chains to offer online purchases.

We found them through a recommendation. At the same time, we searched for other agencies online. We considered 3–4 companies but Dev Technosys' proposal was economical and interesting.

We started the project in November 2019, and it’s an ongoing partnership.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We were the first supermarket chain in Tanzania to launch an e-commerce platform for online sales. The platform has created different fields for the whole company. It definitely had a big impact on us. 

How did Dev Technosys perform from a project management standpoint?

We have a good level of communication. We have a WhatsApp group, which makes communication simple. We also use Skype, which is where all the necessary individuals communicate. We also have e-mail exchanges.   

What did you find most impressive about them?

The level of understanding between us is beneficial. We gave them requirements and their team built the product to fit those requirements. We don't have to go back and forth with changes. Overall, their team's good.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could improve on their statements. When there’s an overseas payment, a bank charge applies. That actually increases the cost of the final product. They should set a maximum for payments instead of an invoicing system for each stage.

Have fixed requirements to exchange with the developer. Our experience has been excellent, so we encourage others to invest in them. We’ve already referred them to 2–3 co-companies.

Aprendo is a marketplace application for private tutors. We basically connect the dots between students and tutors. Our application and service help resolve classroom issues through video calls, reservations, photos, and written answers.

Dev Technosys helped us build our application from scratch. They did our logo and then designed and developed our fully-working iOS and Android apps.

I don’t know how many people were working on Dev Technosys’ side. I was in touch with 3–4 people via email. Mohit (Team Leader) was our go-to person for resolving issues and maintaining communication.

How did you come to work with Dev Technosys?

We had discussions with some local companies in Argentina, but the technology scene here isn’t that good, and prices are very high. We went online and started looking for different companies. We got in touch with around 10 of them and discussed our idea, and we decided that Dev Technosys provided the best service.

How much have you invested with them?

The cost has been around $35,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Dev Technosys in April 2019, and it’s ongoing. We just finished developing the app, but we have to resolve some internal company issues before launching them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

There’s an 8–9–hour time difference between India and Argentina. We had calls with Dev Technosys at 1 a.m. our time — which is when they’re starting their day over there — as well as during our mornings, which is late-night on their side. We really appreciated that they took time outside of their working hours. We could reach them any time, despite difficulties associated with the time zone difference.

How did Dev Technosys perform from a project management standpoint?

Their process was very organized. We started with the logo, moved on to design, and then got into the coding itself. The management and organization around the development of the product were very good. It was all done in a very orderly manner.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Dev Technosys’ customer service and willingness to develop the best product possible impressed us. When we got the source code, we could always send it back for revisions or changes. They were very patient and cooperative with us so that we could develop the best product possible. We now have an app that we’re very satisfied with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Everything was okay.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

People that want to work with Dev Technosys should know that they’re in India and be prepared to only communicate with the team via email and calls. Being in Argentina, this is something we couldn’t change, but we would’ve liked to have sat down with them in-person to discuss things and see the product together. Then again, we’ve had a very good experience communicating with them via phone calls and email; it’s been very manageable.

We had worked with Two Freelancers prior to working with Dev Technosys to try to get this work done. However, the expertise just wasn’t there. It’s extremely hard to find companies like Dev Technosys that have expertise across a range of different platforms. They had the answers to everything.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

They perform extremely well. They’ve got great project management systems Zoho. They set up a communication platform that all of us used for group meetings.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their level of technical understanding of applications, backend software, and cloud servers is phenomenal. They really understand the end-to-end of getting a product from concept to execution.

No, Dev Team team does a great job.

I’m the director of an e-learning platform that provides short- and long-term courses that users can enroll in.

We needed help with web development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Dev Technosys is developing our website using WordPress. The feature they proposed that I hadn’t thought to do is online 24/7 support. They explained how to make it happen and how they can actually help with that.

They’re going to help me to market the business as well. I plan to do the mobile app in the near future. We are currently talking about how to make the app and then integrating it with the website.

What is the team composition?

There’s a team of six people. When they move onto the app, they will bring in 3–4 people for that.

How did you come to work with Dev Technosys?

They were referred by a friend who had them develop one of his apps. The app left a good impression, which is why I selected Dev Technosys to do my website. Other companies quoted me $30,000–$35,000 and said that they would do the project by September or August, but I wanted it pretty quickly.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $20,000–$25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2020, and the project will be done in June or July 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It’s been a good experience so far; I’m happy with the quality. They did a demo website, which I really like. They also did a website that’s currently online to collect customer feedback on what courses they want to have. That way, we can prepare the material and the courses on the website before they even start. I consulted one of my friends in IT, and he said the site is pretty good. It’s also open code, so I can learn pretty quickly how to use it. 

How did Dev Technosys perform from a project management standpoint?

Their customer service is really good. I hear back from them within 10–15 minutes. I give them 9–9.5 out of 10 for project management. We use Skype and Microsoft Teams.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They are able to do the project more quickly and for less money than other companies.

I have not had any issues with them.

Trust and listen to them. They have really good ideas that can help you in designing or implementing your idea.

They designed and developed a brand-new website from scratch. They are coding in PHP.
The site helps clients learn about our company and services, and they’re able to book appointments. They can also log in and upload their documents through a feature that links to our drop box.

The project manager is my main point of contact.

I put an ad online through Google. I spoke with a few different service providers and chose them as the right team for our project.

We spent between $35,000–$40,000.

We began working together in June 2019, and it is ongoing.

The project is ongoing, but we have regular calls to check progress on their servers from our end. 

They have not let me down yet. When they finish this project, I will be giving them another one to work on.

How did Dev Technosys perform from a project management standpoint?

They do a great job meeting deadlines. The project manager is always available when I need him. We speak every other day about progress. We use Zoho, a project management software, to stay updated ourselves as well.

We have no complaints about their work. They’re doing a good job

How did you select this vendor?

I searched for web development companies online. After interviewing three providers, I chose to work with Dev Technosys based on their portfolio, reviews online and some of the projects they worked on, so I contacted them.

We gave them the rough sketches and they were able to take the concept and put it into the real webpage. Some places we gave them ideas on how we wanted it to look and the design elements we wanted to incorporate, then they provided the content and designed some of the icons we needed. Team worked in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and MySQL to build the web page.

What was the team composition?

We communicated with Sales person and Project leader, and they had a team that put it together.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Still platform is being under development, the quality of the work thus far is great. Any requests I have made have been implemented by their team.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

They have been great at project management. They’re in India and we’re in the US, so there was a huge time difference. We Skyped weekly, usually they answer my questions on the same day or within 24 hours. Whenever they have any kind of question they contact me over Skype and email.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They have the in-house ability to do a bit of everything and understood my idea from the beginning. Where other companies were just trying to get the contract, they had a more full view of the project.

No, everything has been good so far.

Please describe your company and your position there.

Our Company is a Startup aiming to simplify the management and adoption of public cloud. Our product is a self-serve SaaS that will help automate cost optimization, reporting and alerts for the customer's public cloud. It will also allow the customer to orchestrate and deploy their architecture via an easy to use drag & drop UI. I am the Co-founder of the company and wear multiple hats including designing and developing the product, operations, finance & sourcing.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Dev Technosys?

We hired Dev Technosys to develop the diagramming portion of the application. The hire was to be a dedicated resource who would work with us on a long term basis on an agile process.

What were your goals for this project?

The business requirements were simple, to develop a custom design on an existing diagramming library on Angular. The diagraming library was an add on to Angular. This library had an established community on Stackoverflow and a well detailed instructions manual on each and every component. We chose this library out of 5 based on its ease of adoption and customization.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We reached out to 3 companies based on reviews. 2 from Upwork and 1 from Clutch. Interviews usually aren't the best way to judge a candidate. So we gave each of these selected companies a list of tasks with the design files and libraries and a week at our expense to complete these tasks. Dev Technosys had good ratings on Clutch so we reached out to them, they recommended a Senior developer (more expensive) and rather than pay after delivery they recommended immediate advance pay of 2 weeks with a guarantee pay back of 50% if we are not satisfied with the work and not moving forward. We usually never do advance pay, but did so in good faith and since we had a signed contract with them.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

The project was to create an overlay of UI (Design files provided) ontop of the GoJS diagraming framework in Angular and then create icons and lines with some basic functionality like redo, undo, copy, paste that was already native to the library. Not a too complex task, both my cofounder and I are from tech backgrounds and the scope set was a reasonable one for any good dev to execute within given time. The developer really struggled with the tasks, we tried to guide and unblock, but the delivery was barely 30% and we just weren't getting any progress.

What was the team composition?

one resource with a PM and a tech PM and a Business Development manager for billing and contracts/NDA.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

We contracted Dev Technosys on Feb 21st and the contract for the 80 hour test period was signed and the money sent. All design files and tasks list was shared. We had a kickoff meeting with their team on Feb 24th. They took couple of days (~3) to review the files and the framework. In parallel the other companies from Upwork had started and were provided code pushes and daily updates. At the end there was no progress with Dev technosys and after giving them nearly 2 weeks we concluded it just wasn't going to work. We lost 2 weeks, it's critical for a startup. Luckily the developers (Both juniors in comparison) from both the other companies completed all the tasks within the first week (half the time allocated for Dev technosys).

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The project management wasn't transparent. We never got daily code pushes, only text updates that we couldn't verify. We lost alot of time trying to get more details and would get responses after 24 hours. Startups cant afford these lags in communication especially the lack of insights into the development. We tried to get things right but it just didn't help and eventually we decided they just weren't a good fit.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their Business Development Manager was the most vested, he tried to salvage the project multiple times and regain our trust. Sadly the rest of the dev team didn't live up to the resolutions and we were back to square one with no progress and lost time.

Are there any areas for improvement?

They should promote a pay as you go structure to gain companies trust (especially startups) and have full transparency into the development process, regular communication and proactively communicate blockers rather than at the end. Most importantly they should honor signed contracts, we still haven't received our refund or the source code as stated in the contract. We actually have nothing to show (in delivery form) for the 2 weeks we paid Dev Technosys for their Senior Developer. We ended the project after 40 hours cause of no progress and lack of transparency, and that didn't get us our refund either.

Company Responses

The vendor responded on April 3, 2020.

The client started his startup approximately 20 days ago in mid-February. Earlier, he worked with freelancers and, after reliving, searched freelancers and companies to start the project again. He found two other freelancers and us. Due to his limited budget, he began with 80 hours to get the MVP funded. 

He had a good idea, and we were interested, so we started working for 80 hours. Usually, we do not accept a project that doesn’t have a roadmap, and the client assured us that he had a plan ready and had secured funding. He just needed to show the MVP in front of investors. 

We happily started working while the client hired other freelancers for small tasks.

Everything was going well, but, due to sudden COVID-19 pandemic, several countries went on lockdown, and everyone was affected. People assumed that there would be a recession, so the client's investors declined his funding. The client had no choice but to ask for a refund from us after we'd done 80 hours of tasks.

We suggest that everyone should hire freelancers to start a product because they'll give good results. But, in the long run, you'll need a company like ours. We have a clean record with many reviews, and this experience was a 1-in-100 incident. If you need more details, we're happy to discuss.
