Our parent company hosts and maintains the corporate website; however, we needed one that specifically addressed the US market and gave us a digital presence that fit our market and was SEO optimized to drive organic traffic.

What was the scope of their involvement?

3 Media Web started off with a discovery phase, exploring our goals and what we wanted to accomplish with the website. From there, we started the design phase, with their designers studying our brand guidelines and adhering to them without creating an exact replica of our global site. After that phase, our internal team began writing content, and 3 Media Web started development. Their SEO specialist then looked at our content and provided techniques and insights to improve it, so we went back and revised our copy. 3 Media Web then took our copy and put it into the new site, making sure all of the links were correct and tweaking the design, as needed.

Next, we conducted QA and went live, during which 3 Media Web coached us on how to update and maintain the site ourselves. We currently work with them on any large tweaks and figuring out how to better drive traffic to our site.

They did a great job with the design, honoring our company’s brand while also giving us a unique website for the U.S. market. We’ve barely been live for a month, so we haven’t had sufficient time to track and measure our SEO.

How did 3 Media Web perform from a project management standpoint?

During general development, I talked with the digital manager about once a week. Whenever they brought on a new expert (like SEO or customer service), we also had a few meetings. When we began ramping up to go live, the manager and I met a couple times every week. We had a project management tool but mainly communicated via phone and email.

What challenge were you trying to address with 3 Media Web?

While working with our tourism affiliates, we were tasked with showcasing North Central Massachusetts as a premier travel destination to bring visitors to the region. We needed a vendor to assist with a rebranding initiative.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We initially based our brand off of the pioneer nurseryman, Johnny Appleseed. He’s credited for introducing apple trees to a large portion of present-day New England. He was born in our region, so we had a strong historical connection. As our organization grew, we started reaching national and international markets that weren’t familiar with the story.

3 Media Web started by leading a discussion to determine a new brand direction. We decided to implement a strategy that provided deeper insight into our region and update our six-year-old website. First, we created a new logo to act as the foundation for the new identity. Then, 3 Media Web put together a draft for the web design. We provided feedback, giving examples of other destination marketing projects and websites. They incorporated some of those elements into our design, then submitted an updated version until we approved. It was an iterative process.

Once we were happy with the results, 3 Media Web built out the design on a WordPress platform. Then, we collaborated on both visual and written content. They added a new feature that allows members to publish their own events straight to our digital calendar.

Both our board and organization are happy with the new brand and the updated website functionalities. We’ve increased member engagement and can more efficiently populate our calendar. Having members input their own events has been a huge timesaver for us internally.

How did 3 Media Web perform from a project management standpoint?

They were excellent. The 3 Media Web team communicated responsively through email, phone calls, and text messages. We used Accelo to track the project, but also shared information and content via Google Drive. It’s been a seamless and enjoyable engagement.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m most impressed with their customer service. If I have any questions or concerns, they’re quick to address them. If we need additional explanation or information, they’ll talk us through it. They really helped us figure out our vision.

We’d built our previous website internally but hadn’t updated it in a number of years. As a result, it became antiquated; it was dated both in terms of verbiage and content. We were also looking to get into the consumer space, so we wanted to update our image from an engineering firm-esque site to a more pleasing aesthetic. We reached out to 3 Media Web Solutions, Inc. to build a new website with more modern visuals.

What was the scope of their involvement?

3 Media Web Solutions built a new WordPress site for us. In the beginning, we discussed internally whether or not we wanted to handle the new site build ourselves. Our previous site was on the Wix platform, but we were debating if we should switch over to WordPress. Since it was a significant change for us, we wanted to make sure we had a plan for our new direction before committing to a development partner.

Once we ironed out the details on our side, 3 Media Web Solutions designed a new logo and worked on the storyboard, establishing the page layout, determining the colors, and getting the look and feel. After we locked that down, they started to work on the content and images—things that would actually fill the pages.

Development lasted from July–August 2018. They did QA before passing the site to us to look over in-house. Over that week-long period, we refined a number of things before launching the site toward the end of August. For the month after, they taught us how to use WordPress and answered all of our questions about the backend and administrative dashboard.

They came to our office to walk us through what they wanted to do with a WordPress site. I found their way of explaining their business model as well as their pricing structure to be a good fit. In the following 2–3 months, we talked internally to align ourselves on a WordPress site. Once we handled the details, we reached out to them and started working around June.

The new site is much better, without a doubt. Because we’re looking to launch into different marketplaces, our website and image are a crucial factor in our expansion. A strong image that’s pleasing to the eye is a must-have to break into the consumer space. So far, we’ve gotten positive results and are looking to work with 3 Media Web Solutions again moving forward. We hope to get more digital marketing support for the backend.

How did 3 Media Web Solutions, Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

It was a great experience overall. During the first phases, we communicated multiple times per week to go over the layout and logo. They threw ideas at us to gather feedback and implemented the changes. Once we got into development, we touched base biweekly to get updates and address questions. We primarily interfaced over the phone or through a messaging service on their management tool. There was one hiccup that delayed the timeline by 2–3 weeks, but, aside from that, everything else was great.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I liked the general, overall feel of the company. It’s a bit of a soft answer, but Mark and Lysa made a strong impression in the beginning. The way they run their company, their values, their customer service on the backend, and the work they do—it was a great fit for us.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There should have been more communication throughout the development process. As we approached their QA phase, we found out that there was a hiccup that required 2–3 more weeks of development. We simply didn’t know about it. The fact that there were multiple confusing logins on their project management tool compounded the problem; I had a hard time finding information on the timelines, deadlines, and deliverables.

When I mentioned the delay to Lysa recently, I wished she could have been more upfront about why it happened and why we didn’t find out until later. They needed to keep us apprised of changes to the timeline.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Overall, it’s been a pleasant experience, and we would wholeheartedly recommend them. They’re easy to work with, flexible, and offer many services to pick and choose. They allow us to determine how much we want to work with them, how hands-on we are, and whether we want to pursue marketing after launch.

We’ve only recently launched the platform, but the consensus is that the redesign is wonderful. Some of our internal engineers would like additional changes to the site’s infrastructure, but the customer feedback has been wholly positive. We’re pleasantly surprised by how much web traffic the site receives. The redesign increased user engagement by 300%.

How did 3 Media Web Solutions, Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

We engaged a hands-on management approach, so they’d interact with us multiple times a day if necessary. It was like they were a part of our company. Their owner was always available to field my questions and fulfill special requests. Overall, we’re happy with their level of documentation and accessibility.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They completely tailored their services to provide exactly what we needed. For example, we conducted user surveys to establish what issues to address with the redesign. We didn’t want to pay another company to repeat that process. Other firms we considered were less willing to accommodate us if that meant disrupting their procedures. 3 Media Web Solutions agreed to jump right into the project and even offered a flexible payment structure. They’re open and helpful, so we can’t ask for much more than that.

Once we neared launch, one of our divisions had significant issues with how the redesign represented them. Unfortunately, 3 Media Web Solutions built the platform in a way that prohibits us from making quick edits to the backend. I communicated to them that we’d appreciate having our project manager attend internal video conferences so they can make changes to the site based on live feedback.

After hiring 3 Media Web Solutions, Inc., we had an initial launch call where we introduced the teams and reviewed the process and expectations. We initially wanted them to redo our website, but they said it would take longer than just making a whole new one. The old site was clunky and unorganized, so we changed the scope and had their team build a new WordPress site from scratch.

We worked together to assemble the framework of the new site and then moved to the design phase. We agreed on the content for each page and what designs we wanted. The new website is performing better than the old one and looks more professional. The analytic elements still aren’t ideal, but we’re talking to 3 Media Web Solutions, Inc. about how to leverage SEO and keywords to improve our numbers; not as many people are calling as we’d like. However, our clients love the site and say it’s much better than what we previously had.

We spoke as needed and typically had a phone call once a week. Whenever I had questions, they answered them quickly. At the beginning of the project, we talked about how I needed to set expectations better, and our communication vastly improved afterward.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They communicated on a regular basis and took responsibility for their work. For a few weeks, technical glitches prevented me from getting any of their emails, but it worked out in the end. The entire team was supportive of our goals, and the graphic designer was exceptional.

They have an automated email system that doesn’t always send me essential emails. We’ve talked about this, and they’ve taken steps to improve it, but they should make sure that clients are getting important emails to keep things running smoothly.

Agree on expectations and communication protocol at the beginning. Once we aligned those aspects, things became much easier.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had a good framework of the sitemap and just wanted to make a few minor modifications to the structure. We picked several key pages to make more modern from a readability and format perspective. Once we finalized the sitemap, we began to redesign the home, applications, contacts, and careers pages. The majority of the content stayed the same; we mainly just updated the layout and look. After finishing the redesign, 3 Media Web Solutions, Inc. started to build the backend. Our site was pretty static, so they incorporated a form for our contact us page to make it more dynamic. Once that was all completed, both 3 Media Web Solutions and our own team tested the site for any bugs or flaws. We then launched the site.

R1: We were trying to update our old website to make it more current, user-friendly, relevant, and informational.

R2: The former website was made by another agency in 2008 before either of us were working for the company.

What was the scope of their involvement?

R1: 3 Media Web used their expertise to guide us through the process of designing our WordPress website and giving us options for the different content and pages. They also provided hosting.

R2: We had a kickoff meeting to scope the plan, during which 3 Media Web laid out the information they needed from us, as well as what they would be working on from the onset till the launch.

The website has interactive components: the chat module, a scheduler, and a search tool. Patients can look up specialties and find new physicians using that search tool. We were given some design options and worked together with 3 Media Web’s team on the scheduling tool. Additionally, they created a tool on the site for communicating with our member physicians.

They also installed a WordPress SEO plug-in.

R1: The “Contact Us” page redirects questions to my email. I also receive a monthly analytics summary detailing how many new and returning visitors we’ve had, how many page views we’ve had, etc.

R1: The founder was always available during the project, but the day-to-day work was turned over to his design team. We worked with a graphic designer and, later on, with the developers. After this phase, their QA team worked with our CIO. They also assigned someone for training.

R1: The impact of their work has been tremendous. The website is being utilized by our practitioners and their staff, who have access to all our meeting material. The physician directory is quite user-friendly and has been used by patients. The site is also being utilized by staff outside of our organization. It has gone from a completely unused site to a very popular one. We got exactly what we wanted.

How did 3 Media Web perform from a project management standpoint?

R2: They were very thorough in their project plan.

R1: We had weekly meetings during this collaborative process. During the height of the build, we met as often as three times a week or more. They brought a project management tool for us, and they showed us how to post information for the development team.

We always knew what was going to be on the agenda for the following meeting, whether it was content, homepage, photography, layouts, etc. We were given clear target dates when stages were due, as well as clear mockups of what the final website would look like.

What did you find most impressive about them?

R1: They delivered what we wanted and got to know us as a client. 3 Media Web determined what we were looking for to help our business.

R2: They did a great job guiding us along given that no one on our end is tech-savvy. They got the necessary inputs in order to make the site match what we wanted.

R2: Clients should be prepared to compile the necessary information for the development team.

R1: The portion of the project when we supplied information took up a lot of my time. It’s important to have a liaison on the client’s end who can treat the project as a priority.

What challenge were you trying to address with 3 Media Web Solutions?

We needed to completely rebuild our website and improve it aesthetically. The previous version was built five years ago by another designer, so we needed a fresh look and a more accessible platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had some preliminary calls with 3 Media Web to ensure a mutual understanding of our business and the objectives we had for the site. Then, we discussed the different areas of the sitemap, what we wanted to improve, and how the elements fit together. Moving on to design, we considered different looks for the site and how its interactive features would be coordinated. They put together various design mockups over multiple iterations.

They redeveloped the whole site from scratch. Creating most of the backend on WordPress made the page very easy to maintain. For example, we now have a recorded webinars section that allows users to search through a variety of recordings we host. Greatly simplifying the process of creating a new webinar and turning upcoming notifications into actual posts saves us a lot of time on the backend. Once the site was close to going live, we performed an accessibility audit using another vendor. The consultant put together a list of tasks that 3 Media Web completed in order to make the site more accessible.

We worked with 6–8 people at different stages of development. This included their founder, the lead designer, and a senior project manager.

How did you come to work with 3 Media Web Solutions?

The selection process wasn’t especially difficult, but it was time-consuming. We ended up doing quite a bit of research and having multiple conversations. We found numerous web design firms and thoroughly compared them against criteria we had in place. We found 3 Media Web online and were impressed by their portfolio and the subsequent discussions we had with the team. There wasn’t a close second option, especially at the price they offered.

The project took place from August 2017–February 2018.

It’s still early to look deeply at analytics, but we’ve seen some great results so far. Our pricing page is integral to driving traffic and has seen a significant increase in visits and filled forms.

How did 3 Media Web Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

Their founder oversaw everything, but we also worked with the lead designer and his team. They worked closely with us throughout the project and kept us updated on any issues as they arose. After the project was transferred to implementation, we worked with their senior project manager and her team. After the site went live, we worked with an ongoing contact for training and support issues. There’ve been a few other people involved with the final accessibility issues. Communication was handled perfectly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have a great attitude. I’ve worked with other firms and designers in the past who tended to make collaboration difficult. Everyone at 3 Media Web aligned in terms of completing goals and executing the project.

I am the Marketing Manager for MatTek Corporation, which is a medium-sized biotech company that specializes in tissue engineering.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with 3 Media Web?

The goal was to create a modern website that was more reflective of the technology that we have developed over the years. Our former website was very dated and not extremely user-friendly.

With those goals in mind, 3 Media Web worked with us on the layout and the design to create a really beautiful, modern-looking website that just better reflected the level of technology that we produce here at MatTek. It's now extremely user-friendly, and it has multiple levels of interesting design and functionality.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They took our initial comments regarding the broad picture of what we wanted, and they presented us with basically two paths to take as far as the major design of the Wordpress website.

The one that we went with was the waterfall design. It has a focus on large hero images across the screen. We have really cool images of our products, our tissues that we make in house and have, so that was a really great way to feature that content.

From there, we worked with them on the wireframe and the initial, design concept for each section of the website. They started off very broad with selecting the layout. As that became more naturally refined, we began to work on the design concept.

We have these large hero images of our tissues, which I think is probably the most impressive part of our website. They also had to develop, right on the home page, a couple of different sections for each of our product families. Currently, we have two up there, and we're working on a third with them. Our tissue models are reflective of the human body, so they basically created an outline of a human body with clickable dots and links with the locations where each of our tissues would land on the body. We have four skin models that are aligned along the arm, ocular models where the eyes would be, and the lung model where lungs would be. That's a really cool feature that they designed especially for us.

Also, the online store was another feature that they developed for us, which is tricky because a lot of our products are very similar. But we really love the way that that came out.

The third project, our reference library was one of the more trickier projects. This is because we are a biotech company and a lot of our products and our essays are published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. We have a collection of these scientific journals that cite our work, our models, and our essays, so we keep track of those. That was a big project to sort all of those out, make them searchable and accessible on the website. That was another feature that they made just for us that I'm very pleased with.

The online store itself is a WooCommerce platform within WordPress. 3 Media Web worked with us to link Authorize.Net, which is what we use to process online credit cards. They also linked our FedEx and UPS accounts so that we can pass on our cost to the customer so they're not paying the normal FedEx rate, they're paying the MatTek FedEx rate. The API linkage was part of that whole project.

When the website was being built, they did SEO for us, but we also have installed, in the Wordpress backend, Yoast SEO. It is incredibly easy to use. Every time I build a page, everything that I need is right there to guide me. 

How did you come to work with 3 Media Web?

I searched for Boston area web developers once I knew that I wanted to redo our website, and I interviewed, I would say, five to seven different companies. 3 Media Web was by far the most responsive and offered to come in and meet with us, scheduled an in-person meeting, which I think also helped tip the scales in their favor. They were clearly going to be so great to work with, Mark [Founder, 3 Media Web] and especially their designer, Robby. It was great to meet them in person, and right from the get-go because it just established that relationship from the beginning. We all worked really well together. They really knew what they were doing. You could tell.

How much have you invested with them?

Our budget for the website was $30,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We first started working with them in the summer of 2015, and the website launched the end of December 2015.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We immediately noticed better quality traffic hitting the website, especially because of more relevant SEO that was built in. We noticed that more pages were visited, people spent more time on the website, and our online purchases did go up. The online revenue generated by the website did go up.

How did 3 Media Web perform from a project management standpoint?

They were great. We always had set deadlines, and there was constant communication back and forth between MatTek and 3 Media Web. No one was ever left hanging by them, so that was great. When it really became crunch time, Mark, and my boss, and I were on the phone together until like 3 o'clock in the morning. We wanted to meet a particular deadline and they did everything that they had to do to make that happen, to make sure that everything was working properly and was bench-tested before it went live. I really appreciated kind of that sacrifice of an entire night's sleep to help us make that happen, they were great.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I would say that their design concepts are outstanding. I mean, our website really stands alone within our competitors and customers within our industry. We constantly get complimented on the design of our website and how it looks so impressive and how much better it reflects what we do here as far as our technology.

Also, the ongoing customer service has been fantastic. Rachel is someone who handles our service contract. If I have questions about how to create a page a certain way, or if there is a plugin issue on the website, which can happen sometimes when they update, Rachel is right on it immediately. I've always gotten excellent support from them even after the project was completed.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don't think so. Honestly, we really enjoyed working with them and we've continued to do so over the past couple of years as far as building out other sections of the website as our product families expand. Their responsiveness is great, their design concepts are great, and they meet deadlines. I would say that there wasn't really any part of the project that was frustrating to me, it went really smoothly.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We are a software development company, and we have an estimating, take-off, and project management software for electrical contractors. We focus in various areas of the construction industry.

My role is marketing, training, and website management. I’m in charge of the content of the website and any changes that need to be made.

What challenge were you trying to address with 3 Media Web Solutions?

Our company has been in business for 26 years. In that time, we talked to a few web companies, but we never found one that shared our vision of who ConEst is and how we project our brand and image. Having had the same website for such a long time, there was a level of comfort that had to be reached to be able to work with a web design company.

With that being said, there was a lot of content on the old website that had been appended through the years. The code had gotten really difficult to work with, and the website looked very outdated. So the majority of the project was getting the site to look current and function better. We had a need for customized forms to request training, support, secure payments and requests for software demonstrations. We wanted the site to be clean and secure, make sure the content was optimized for SEO, and make it easy to find information.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They started from scratch because the code had been modified so much throughout the years.

3 Media initially came in for a consultation with us and discussed who ConEst is. 3 Media presented several design options and from those we chose a design and modified to reach a point that development could begin. 
They helped us understand how our website needed to function before we began populating pages with content. There were things that we wanted to do see, but that might not be optimal with websites and search engines look at things.

We chose not to have the copy writing done by 3media due to the nature of our business. You really need a background in construction and the electrical industry to be able to write about our products.

Requesting changes or additions to the site was very easy during the development stage, 3 Media was very responsive and had great advice. If there was anything that couldn’t be done, they were honest and straightforward if it just wasn’t possible.

Once the site was up and running, they helped us with the initial SEO setup and we reviewed the outcome about 3 months later. Recently 3media conducted an SEO audit for us which gave us some good insights and suggestions to improve SEO and get the most out of our Google Ads investment. I’ve actually seen improvement in our click-throughs and conversions.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve had an increase in requests for information and demonstrations. I believe, in part, the increase can be attributed to the overall look of the website and SEO improvements are evident. The new site offers a much better experience for the visitor. Our customers can easily find what they need and all visitors can search information and resources in a way that makes sense. 

How did 3 Media Web Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

They did very well. There were some challenging times during the project, and we were asking for a lot every day. They were patient and professional throughout the project. I can only say good things about 3 Media. Post-launch they have shown they are still very dedicated to us as their customer and have continued to be responsive.

I occasionally had trouble understanding where things stood on certain action items and where they were in their queue because the tool they use doesn’t have that capability for the customer. I needed to reach out via email to find out how things were moving along with change requests. But, that was a very minor challenge, and they always got right back to me.
