We were looking for a development team to help us build a large e-commerce platform.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They helped us build an e-commerce website that includes a service bus that connects the platform with an order management system, fulfillment partners, and payment service providers. It's a large enterprise e-commerce platform with home page listings and search functionality. They used mostly Salesforce Commerce Cloud, JavaScript, and MuleSoft. The platform serves the markets within the U.S., Canada, Japan, Korea, and Australia.

They've also helped us with building backend integrations, API connections, and the frontend for responsive websites. It's a very collaborative process and they work alongside our in-house development team.

We work with four members of their team, including front- and backend developers.

How did you come to work with Vega IT Sourcing?

We wanted to have additional development resources. We've worked with Vega for six or seven years and they've always provided us with the resources we needed. Also, the quality of their work is very high, so we like having them as part of our team.

We've spent over $200,000.

This project started in January 2018 and the relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They always get the work done and we've had very few bugs. They're very focused on their task, which is why they accomplish great results.

How did Vega IT Sourcing perform from a project management standpoint?

They're very motivated, which is especially helpful when we have tight deadlines. Also, they're knowledgeable about the latest technology, so they can handle a variety of projects. We use scrum methodology and they take part in our daily stand-up meetings or video calls. We also use Slack, Skype, and Jira to stay in touch. They've very easy to work with.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They seem to be a perfect company. They're very involved and take responsibility if something doesn't go well, fixing it right away. They really take ownership of the project, even though they're only a part of it. Also, they've already visited us twice.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They're growing fast, so they hire a lot of new people. They can spend more time introducing new members of their team to our work, so that their new teammates can produce the same quality.

For this specific client, we needed Vega IT Sourcing to build a website and perform QA on the developed product.

What was the scope of their involvement?

To begin each engagement, our team collects our client’s objectives and timelines for the project, and we communicate that to the Vega IT Sourcing team. We then scope out the specific design and development needs around the client’s specifications. For example, when developing a website for a previous client, their developers built the frontend of the site and integrated it with the Umbraco CMS. From there, they deployed the site performed QA testing and we worked through IT solutions together. They work on 60–70 projects for us per year.

What is the team composition?

They provide a senior member to build teams aligned with project needs, and they assign us a project director, who brings on the appropriate front- and backend developers, testers, and others. They typically supply a team of five people or more.

Our company began working with Vega IT Sourcing before I came on board, so I wasn’t a part of the selection process. However, they looked for teams that could offer high-quality work, a competitive price, and consistent service over many projects.

How much have you invested with them?

Over the course of working together, we’ve spent around £400,000 (approximately $513,000). Each project price can range from £200 (approximately $250) to £7,000 (approximately $9,000), depending on the size.

We began working with Vega IT Sourcing in 2011, and we continue to use their services.

We get continually positive feedback from our clients. We judge the success of the engagement based on how strong a working relationship we’ve developed with them—they’re a core part of our development team.

They’re a highly responsive team—they’ll challenge our briefs and timelines if they think there’s an issue, which we appreciate. We use Codio to manage the project and communicate, and we’ve begun using Jira, as well.

We appreciate Vega IT Sourcing's flexibility—they’re very compatible with our team’s schedule. We can tell they’re proud of the work they do, and our clients respond well to it. They’re committed to producing fantastic deliverables—they truly care about the projects they work on. Having a clear goal from the beginning of the engagement is important. Explain your vision to Vega IT Sourcing and make sure to document everything realistically. A shared timeline is the most essential aspect of a collaboration.

I’m the co-founder and CTO of CybrQ. We’re rethinking the way people protect themselves in the cybersecurity place using a pre-click approach. Today, when you think about cybersecurity, people either filter messages from you using their spam folder, or they block you after you did something. We believe that there’s something in between that needs to happen so you can actually change people’s behavior. People don’t want to be bad citizen’s online, they just lack the time, knowledge, and experience to make better decisions online.

What challenge were you trying to address with Vega IT?

It’s hard to find technical talent in Switzerland on short notice, and, as a startup, you have a limited lifeline in terms of funding. Therefore, we needed short-term resources to help us start to develop various aspects of our product.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’ve done a variety of project with them. For example, we use frontend development resources from them, but we also had a design team working for a short period of time. Now, we have somebody who’s working more on the security side of things, doing penetration testing. We're also in the process of setting up a data science project.

We’re doing a classical frontend development project with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and, of course, all the tools and technologies that fit within that ecosystem, including Node.js. When we start working on data science and more actual programming, we’ll go into the Python ecosystem.

What is the team composition?

Mostly, there are one or two guys per team, although there’s three on one team. For a company our size, that's pushing the limit.

How did you come to work with Vega IT?

I have a mutual connection with the founder of Vega IT. If you look at any near-shoring or outsourcing companies, you usually start with a test balloon and see how they perform, which turned out pretty well for us. We could see that Vega IT was extremely well organized and no one, from the CEO down the actual developers, ever missed a meeting or a call. This helped us see that they were a reliable partner that could deliver quality work.

We’ve been working together since November 2017.

I’m the founder of Companion Apps, a group that creates apps intended to ease stress and anxiety. I’ve worked with Vega IT Sourcing for nearly 10 years across several projects, some of which were for previous companies I’ve worked with.

We were looking to hire outside development resources to build an iOS application.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The Vega IT Sourcing team was responsible for the complete build of the app. We provided UX design, wireframes, and broad specifications and they executed development according to our preferences. The app is designed to help users reduce the physical symptoms associated with anxiety and manage their thinking habits over long periods of time. We’re currently building a version of the app for Android, as well as a large update, including a new UI, for the iOS app. We’re also adding a subscription model that’s set to launch in October 2018.

What is the team composition?

We work with two iOS developers, a frontend developer, and as of recently, an Android developer.

How did you come to work with Vega IT Sourcing?

We originally worked together on a bootstrap project, and their pricing was very competitive. I also had a previous relationship with them and knew I could trust them to deliver on our needs. Since then, I’ve continued to go back to them and we’ve built a level of trust that I simply don’t have with other development agencies.

We’ve spent close to £30,000 ($39,800 USD) on this specific app development project.

They’ve allowed us to develop more efficiently and help us plan ahead properly. Some development companies will extend deadlines and delay launches, but the Vega team has been instrumental in helping us to maintain our schedule. The iOS app they delivered is rated very highly rated on the UK’s App Store, and it’s been almost universally well-received over the last few years.

Throughout the projects I’ve done with their team, they’ve excelled in plan management. They’re driven, transparent, communicative, and responsive. We also work directly with their developers, which is very important when outsourcing development projects. We use Slack for daily communication and occasionally Jira for larger projects.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have a very good work culture. I’ve worked with many people across the Vega team, and they emphasize happiness and take a unique approach to managing their business. They’ve grown significantly since I first started working with them, but they still prioritize building real relationships with their clients.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There are always ways to improve, but Vega is interesting because they foster a culture of learning and constant improvement. They’re always willing to work with the customer to meet their requirements and improve workflow. I’ve recommended them to a number of colleagues because they’re very capable and trustworthy.

Make sure to fully understand what you’re trying to achieve and provide the Vega team with as much detail as possible prior to development. Also, work with them to create an open and communicative workflow.
