We needed to design a wall wrap for a Junior Achievement Bixtown booth. It included all 4 walls and an exterior. The design needed to reflect what we do as a business and also express our core values as a company.

Brian was able to deliver the design work on time and in a professional manner. There was some scope creep involved, but Brian managed that well and was responsive throughout the project.

I think we may have misaligned on the time estimate we came up with to complete the project, but that was due to a number of factors including some changes in scope of work along the way. We pushed up against our deadline pretty tightly, but still made it and the work was extremely well received.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Brian White Design has created over two dozen assets for me, including business cards, brochures, print ads, and social media ads. They’ve also assisted me with website security and maintenance. Our website was created by a larger marketing firm, but Brian White Design has helped me maintain and keep it secure.

For the pamphlets and other materials, Brian White Design has created the entire design, color scheme, and layout, using Adobe Illustrator for graphic design. I’ve given them an idea that we received from a larger marketing firm that created a brand for us. Brian White Design has brought those concepts to life in pieces that I use all the time.

Those I report to are very satisfied with the materials I’ve been able to present and produce for the hospital and our affiliates.

How did Brian White Design perform from a project management standpoint?

Brian White Design has a great way of communicating and sharing drafts back and forth. They’re happy to produce something that everyone is happy with. They’re very patient and good at what they do. We work and share things back and forth on Trello, which has been a great space to collaborate.

We also use Google Drive and email to communicate. When we want to have a face-to-face meeting, we usually use Microsoft Teams.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m impressed with Brian White Design’s availability, accessibility, expertise, and experience.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I’m very satisfied with what they’re doing and producing. They’re always open to feedback, so I don’t see any barriers.

If a potential client is going to work with Brian White Design, I hope they have room to take care of their because they stay very busy with the services they provide.

I’m the owner of QTI, a manufacturer of allergy skin test devices. I also run a ranch, although I don't own it. Brian White Design works for both QTI and the ranch.

We needed help with logo and website design for both companies, so we hired QTI to help us with everything associated with that.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Brian White Design has designed our logos and websites, including all the artwork needed to make them look good. They've also been in charge of designing the features to make them work.

As for logo design, Brian (UI, branding & Logo Designer) has designed several for the ranch for different sides of it, including the blacksmith's shop, the agricultural side, and the overall ranch logo. He has also designed a logo for QTI.

The website for QTI is simple and has several pages describing our two products. Brian has done all the heavy lifting for this website. I've answered a lot of questions, but I haven't done any of the design. He simply runs things by me, for me to give him the go-ahead. He has built this website from scratch, using WordPress and some things from SiteGround.

Throughout the project, Brian has asked questions to figure out what we want and like. He has also shown some examples, and we've adjusted some things together. We had a lot of input for the logo of the blacksmith shop, but Brian was open to that input and knew what to do with it.

In addition to web and logo design, Brian White Design has helped us with trademarking. Brian has worked with a lawyer. The lawyer has given him input, and Brian has done things on our logo based on that.

Currently, we're working on a new project. Moreover, Brian has done a little bit of work here and there, and he offers regular maintenance to our websites. Whenever I need something, I just call him.

I work directly with Brian. However, he outsources some of the work. Although he doesn't have a large team, he works closely with some partners he knows very well whenever needed. Still, he does a lot of the work himself.

A friend of mine went to school with Brian. When we were talking one day, he said he had a friend who did this kind of work and gave me his contact information. I was interviewing several organizations, and Brian White Design seemed like a good match.

We started working together around November 2014, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The quality of Brian White Design's work is great, and their designs are very user-friendly — that's probably their greatest strength. Brian is willing to put in the time needed to get things right. If we don't like something, they don't get their feelings hurt. They do what it takes to make it work.

We've definitely noticed an increase in the number of people visiting our QTI site. However, we have an exclusive contract with a distributor, so we currently can't take any more customers. Our website is just to give us legitimacy and a place for people to learn about us. However, saying that it has driven more sales is inaccurate because we can't do more business due to this contract.

As mentioned, we've seen an increase in our website visitors, so people are checking us out. If we do something in the market, we see a blip of people checking us out. The website has definitely been functional.

The ranch's website is also mostly about legitimacy. Still, based on the number of visitors to that site, we could greatly benefit from starting to offer online sales in the future. The website has been very well received and sustained on social media. Brian has done a great job in that regard.

How did Brian White Design perform from a project management standpoint?

If Brian White Design says they're going to do something at a certain time, they generally keep their promise. It's very rare for Brian to have to say something happened. Even though he's mainly a one-man show, he knows how to schedule his time to get stuff done. I would give him perfect ratings for getting things done on time and on budget.

I don't use project management tools. I'm a little old school in that way, so I mainly keep track of things using lists. I communicate with Brian via phone calls and emails. A lot of the heavy lifting has been done through emails. If there's any confusion or blockage in the communication flow, I call Brian on the phone, and that works really well.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Brian is honest, virtuous, consistent, and caring; he operates from a good set of virtues. Still, his artistry is his strength. Whenever he makes a logo, he records himself so that he can play the process back at us and see how he got there.

Brian is very technically competent in UI design, and he knows how to contact people who can help him accomplish certain things. Moreover, He's very good at generating designs and taking feedback. He's a very good communicator who knows how to make adjustments.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Given that Brian is just one person, sometimes he can get a little overwhelmed with everything he's trying to do. Although that doesn't affect him or our work — he doesn't freak out or get angry — I've occasionally felt a little sorry for him because he has a lot to do. However, this isn't a complaint. Overall, there's nothing he could improve on.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Communicate thoroughly with them. Brian White Design is very good at collaborating. Don't just throw something on their plate, walk away, and expect it to come out exactly as you want. Communicate with them and thoroughly describe what you want. Take your time to work with him, as he's willing to give you his time.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We consulted Brian (UI, Branding & Logo Designer) for our website’s navigation design and sitemap. We’d already established user personas and conducted a bunch of user tests, so we gave the data to him. From there, he created a design system for our public marketing website and created several wireframes for us along with a series of components we could reuse.

He worked with another company that did some contract work with us. In other words, we found him through word of mouth. He had the experience of working with museums, so we decided he’d be a good match for our project.

The initial bid was $15,000, but our final investment was around $20,000. For context, the project consisted of four sprints costing $1,000 each.

The project lasted from September 2023–February 2024.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

After Brian finished his work, a lot of people commented on how clean the designs were. It was a good refresh for our website; we updated a lot of technical things on it and improved the overall UX. We did additional user tests, and users ended up navigating the site much easier. Overall, our entire team was pleased with Brian’s work.

How did Brian White Design perform from a project management standpoint?

Brian was great at communicating. He gave us regular updates halfway through each sprint. Once a particular sprint was finished, he communicated with our designers and marketing team to ensure that he stayed on track. For tools, we primarily used Microsoft Teams, emails, and phone calls. Brian designed everything through Figma. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Our overall experience with Brian was great. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Brian had some family problems at one point and had to work a bit over time during one of the last sprints. To be fair, he was communicative about that and gave us one additional sprint session. We were able to subtract the excess hours there, and he became more diligent in time-tracking after that. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Having clear communication is important. Brian is great at asking and responding to questions, so ensure you communicate with him and outline your requirements.

For instance, we gave Brian a lot of examples of what we were looking for, and that gave him a visual representation of what we wanted. This way, he was able to translate our requirements into designs while incorporating our branding, his knowledge, and other data into the final outputs.

The site hasn’t been launched, so we can’t provide any success metrics. However, we were satisfied. Brian White Design did an excellent job. Although it was a bit pricey, we got what we paid for.

Brian was good at setting expectations and meeting them. He was always done by the date he promised. Overall, he managed client expectations in terms of incidents.

We mainly communicated via email. Additionally, we set up a Slack channel to talk back and forth.

Communication was excellent. Brian’s greatest features were his honesty and openness.

No, I wouldn’t do anything differently. We made the right decisions.

Brian was able to asses our organizational goals, our marketing target, with incredible accuracy and speed. He was easy to work with, he applied effective listening skills, maintained flexibility in his approach, without over-steering us to our desired destination. 

He had a gift for 'visualizing' our goals and dreams, then bring them to life. He is extraordinarily gifted in this area, yet he makes the 'journey of discovery' a pleasure. What Brian produce exceeded all our expectations, and his logo design and branding elements is often praised nationally for its excellence.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Brian's logo/design work frequently elicits compliments wherever our organization goes, both locally and nationally. The positive responses are from the first responders, citizens, supporters, and chaplaincy peers - which comprises our circle of influence. 

The First Responder Chaplaincy Association now appears in the top 5 of browser searches and many times is at the very top of the search. (Search for first responder chaplains.) This of course has to do with the quality of services we are committed to providing, but also the quality of Brian's work is value added at all times.

Brian is a good communicator AND listener. Both are crucial to the end product. His relationship style is easy going but also very professional. I feel most comfortable working with someone with this combination of personal attributes. When Brian would give us a production timeline, he was almost always on time or ahead of his projections.

What was the scope of their involvement?

At the start of the project, we discussed our needs, mission, and vision with Brian (User Interface, Branding & Logo Designer). He then sent us two extensive documents that asked pointed questions to help him get to the heart of our organization and optimize his deliverables. It took us days to complete those documents because we wanted to provide insightful answers. 

Brian used that information to create our website from scratch. During the design phase, he picked eye-catching colors for the site. He also added quotes from those who are aware of our organization to the site. The development aspect of the project was done using WordPress and SightGround. He then incorporated live statistics into the site, which we didn't think of doing ourselves. 

On the site, users can find links, resources, and other information related to programming at our organization. There is also outside information about trauma, grief, and loss. Users can also utilize the support groups that Brian White Design built into the site.

Currently, Brian White Design maintains and hosts the site.

The site launched several days ago, and we've had an overwhelmingly positive response to the new site. Brian White Design took our vision, goals, and mission and created the most beautiful website we could've asked for.

My experience lived up to everything the video portfolio that influenced my decision to hire Brian promised. Every specific request was fulfilled. The creative touches that Brian added to the site were extremely meaningful to our team.

How did the company perform from a project management standpoint?

I worked directly with Brian, who was extremely responsive — we communicated through phone calls, email, and text messages. Everything was delivered on time and to perfection. 

Even though we started the project in October 2022, we didn't deliver the necessary materials to Brian until January 2023. However, he was still able to turn around the project in just 2–3 weeks. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The way Brian used our answers to the specific questions he posed about our organization, along with his artistic ability, to deliver something perfect for us, was unique. Not all web designers go that in-depth. We'd had discussions about this project with two web designers previously, and neither took the time, nor showed interest in, getting to know our brand. 

Since the site's launch, we've referred several others to Brian White Design.

I can't think of anything negative about this experience. 

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Customers need to know that once they provide Brian with the materials he needs, he can turn around a project in about three weeks. Also, customers should take their time when answering the documents Brian provides to better understand the customer's vision.

How did you select this vendor?

Found multiple designers through Clutch.co and interviewed them.

Describe the scope of their work in detail, including any steps and the final deliverables.

Had a call to determine if we were compatible. I determined BWD was the design company I wanted to work with. Provided BWD with a 50% deposit. Had another call with BWD to discuss needs in more detail. BWD provided 20-30 rough logo concepts to help weed out what I liked and didn't. With that feedback, BWD revised a few of the concepts in round 1 and provided some new concepts in round 2. We met again to discuss the direction of the project, what was working and what wasn't, and the next steps.

BWD provided a round 3 with new designs and tweaks to existing designs and included colors to fully see the vision. I selected a logo and color from the round 3 options. In the final round, BWD made small changes to the logo design chosen and colors. The final package included a simple branding document with logo and color standards, logo in JPG in multiple sizes, and logo in vector.

This new professional services company has simple brand guidelines to follow, which is one less thing to think about when standing up a new business.

The timeline was estimated to be 4-6 weeks and BWD delivered against this timeline. The project was managed with phone calls and emails.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They worked hard to deliver the project on time, even after a few unforeseen external challenges.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I would have preferred to be shown fewer logo designs, having BWD present only the best handful with support for why those designs work the best for my brand.

I’m the senior marketing manager at IAC - Industrial Accessories Company, an engineering construction and original equipment manufacturer of industrial air pollution and dust control products.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Brian White Design?

We needed someone to build an updated version of our website. The one we had was very good, but its technology was outdated, and the structure of our company had evolved. We were now doing more business in other industries that our current website didn’t showcase.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Brian White Design built a completely new website for us from scratch, using WordPress and Elementor as the technology stack. They also set up the hosting with SiteGround. We have HubSpot as our CRM system, so they had to connect the entire site to HubSpot’s services as well.

The HubSpot integration included linking the main site with three subdomains I had so that I would be able to work from HubSpot and have total visibility of my sites. Now, if a known user visits our website, HubSpot lets me know which pages they visit. Additionally, Brian White Design created forms on HubSpot, so new users can fill out the forms and become new contacts for us.

Brian White Design also helped us with our SEO, which included doing keyword research, setting up our Google Analytics, and making off-page fixes to optimize the site’s speed. Their team also worked with us on our content. I provided them with a lot of the copy and imagery, and they also did some copywriting on their own.

In addition to the main website, Brian White Design also helped us create a smaller website, for which they were in charge of the entire graphic design, which included developing its entire look and feel. They used Figma to map both sites.

I worked directly with Brian (UI, Branding & Logo Designer), who had three more people working for him on the project, including an SEO and PPC specialist, a PHP developer, and a content creator.

How did you come to work with Brian White Design?

I found them through a website dedicated to promoting the work of independent Kansas City graphic and web designers.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $60,000–$70,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

I started working with them in October 2020, and we launched the new website in May 2021. Although they’ve finished the site, they’re available for maintenance and updates as needed.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our business development team has greatly enjoyed the HubSpot integration because it has made their jobs much easier. Now, we’re seeing more quote requests coming to the website.

As far as metrics go, our old site used to get around 7,000 visitors per month, but given our company’s evolution, it was bringing in a lot of bad traffic because it was targeted towards unfitting keywords. Now, we’re getting around 7,000 visitors per month again, but with an entirely new set of targeted pages and keywords, meaning that we now have more highly qualified traffic; it’s worth its weight in gold. Our leads are now much more relevant, ultimately increasing our revenue.

Additionally, thanks to our new website design, customers now trust us as a well-established company, making us a good fit for their projects. This has helped us sign new contracts worth millions of dollars.

How did Brian White Design perform from a project management standpoint?

Brian White Design did an excellent job managing the project. Although we had a lot of hiccups on our end, they were patient and kind, and Brian kept gently pushing the project through. We used Figma, Trello, and Google Sheets to manage the project. Additionally, we used Google Drive to share copy content and artwork.

What did you find most impressive about them?

One of Brian White Design’s most impressive assets was their flexibility. When we were looking for a provider to redesign our site, we wanted to find a company willing to keep our current site up and running while developing a new one. No other companies wanted to touch the maintenance aspect of an old site, but Brian was willing to work with me at the level I needed, helping me fix some parts of our old site until we could launch the new one; that flexibility won them the business.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Brian is great at handling things on his own, so he doesn’t always say when he doesn’t know something. Therefore, I can only advise him to avoid hiding the fact that he brings other independent contractors to the project for support as much as he tries to do. He’s very resourceful and a great designer.

Come in with a solid idea of your goals and objectives, and Brian White Design will work great within that framework.
