We needed support updating our Shopify store.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Tessafold LLC updated our Shopify store’s frontend. I worked directly with the team’s developer and explained what I wanted. I also requested Tessafold LLC to change the header sizes on every page and implement a video on our homepage that plays automatically.

Initially, I worked with Khaled (Founder & CEO), and during the development phase, I only worked with one programmer.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Tessafold LLC successfully implemented our Shopify. The most important thing for me was to have a sustainable and functional store, and Tessafold LLC met my expectations. We saw an increase in our site’s loading speed.

Tessafold LLC delivered work on time and communicated via WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was most impressed by Tessafold LLC's speed; they worked fast, and I could reach them anytime. I contacted the developer, and he immediately answered the phone and resolved the issues within a couple of hours.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would be helpful for Tessafold LLC’s growth in the German market if they could implement a German bank account since the most difficult aspect of our project was the payment. Tessafold LLC only had bank accounts abroad, which was more expensive for me as a customer — I had difficulties transferring money.

For our existing e-learning platform, we needed additional features to improve the experience for our customers with our platform and at the same time to work more efficiently within our internal processes (e.g. support).

For the basis of our e-learning platform we used WordPress in combination with the Elementor and LearnDash plugin. For these two plugins we needed new widgets with corresponding special functions that were not available in the standard palette of these plugins. We created a specification for the Tessafold team with an exact functional description and UI/UX of the desired widgets. The result was exactly as we imagined. Thank you!

With the help of the new widgets, we were able to offer our customers a better UI experience, expand the range of functions of the e-learning platform and this also meet our own customer requirements. In addition, the widgets also relieved us of the support effort, so that we have more time for major topics from our customers.

The team was available at all times if there was anything to discuss and also brought in their own ideas along with our specifications. We hired the agency to create a CRM for one of our clients who work in the real estate industry and facility management. We started with a discovery meeting with the agency, then we received an offer. They began with the UI/UX design, which was very important. This UI/UX design added significant value for us. After that, they started working on the project in Scrum sprints and delivered the project in milestones, allowing us to test what they were creating.

Tessafold started strong, but the internal leadership has glaring character issues that were not realized until later. The developers were mostly good, but the overworking of resources and dishonesty produced a bad result, and this is a 100% leadership issue.

How did your relationship with your partner evolve?

It started great, but when more responsibility was put on the offshore team and my former 'partner', he ended up overselling engagements and not disclosing. Working developers well beyond their limits and the quality of work dramatically decreased.

They need new leadership, as the core issues of greed and lack of integrity are deal-breakers.

What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?

I would not engage with Tessafold and will not recommend that anyone does with the current CEO. It is unfortunate as I had high hopes. The development resources were great for the most part, and given the right leadership team structure, I think that they are very valuable.

What challenge were you trying to address with Tessafold?

We've been collaborating with Tessafold for a considerable period. They've been supplying us with staff augmentation for different development projects.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Recently, I took on a new project with a limited budget and brought in a team from Tessafold to assist.

Initially, I needed them to develop a mobile app for what we were doing. The team specializes in machine learning, generative AI, and natural language processing. They put together a very responsive Flutter application and another companion application that completes the other side of what our organization does.

They've worked on a native application that lives on the child's devices. The Tessafold team has been able to execute my plan well. Despite the significant challenges involved, they've delivered a successful proof of concept.

Apart from this project, we've done React apps, three law enforcement applications, and many other ongoing projects. I've really put them to full use.

What is the team composition?

I've been working with 20–25 developers. I asked for a scrum master and opted for an agile methodology. I needed to fill specific roles, and they assigned a system analyst, a business analyst, and a project manager, who is the CTO.

How did you come to work with Tessafold?

I stumbled upon them through an offshore connection. Specifically, one of their developers on staff was someone I'd worked with before and knew they did excellent work.

How much have you invested in them?

We've spent close to $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The partnership with Tessafold began in March 2022, and it's ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The entire Tessafold team is fantastic, and the quality is excellent. I've had several different code reviews from each one of the clients as well as myself, and the code quality has always been outstanding. We've seen a reduction in cost for sure, and we've also been able to time. Tessafold quickly adapted to US standards and the time zones, allowing for a truly agile process.

Furthermore, I also introduced them to a company where I hold the position of fractional CTO and assigned them to eight other projects. They've been able to deliver successfully on all of them.

How did Tessafold perform from a project management standpoint?

Initially, there were some bumps, but the team adjusted swiftly. Communication is always the most complex challenge. We have been able to adapt and make changes efficiently to ensure the successful delivery of my projects and the others we are working on.

They're proficient in English and work in the appropriate time zone, which enables me to effectively guide them to meet the coding standards and software development life cycle requirements of the United States. Integrating the whole process was seamless. Moreover, they're great at following instructions.

We strictly use Jira internally, but it depends on the client for all other communication. We use an internal Discord server, Slack, Microsoft Teams, or whatever the client needs.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They're quick to adapt and teachable, which is impressive. They've been able to staff up to specific certifications that I require, such as AWS certifications which are incredibly challenging to obtain. This added significant value not only to my personal project but also to all of my clients.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The biggest miss with Tessafold was that they were initially basing the level of the individuals, junior, mid, and senior, on how many years that person had been in the trade, which isn't the correct way to do it. They oversold people that had yet to be fully vetted.

Since then, we've helped them adapt to a much more thorough review process where someone can come in with great aptitude and jump into a 30-day probationary period from a junior to a senior, depending on their ability. They've swiftly adapted to some of the suggestions I've required to ensure I could bill for their services at the appropriate rate and deliver what my clients would expect.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Working with Tessafold has been a great experience. Over the time we have worked together, I've been able to help Tessafold adapt to wherever their client is at. There's a different level of visibility and a whole other level of accountability that Tessafold now adheres to due to my demands. Tessafold covers everything from design to delivery, so there's little as far as a special or secret step to get to a great product.

They take a small retainer as far as payment for the discovery. Then everything else is billed in sprint cycles when the client approves the product. It's not the opposite way. You don't pay and then get the work; you get the work and then pay once you approve. That has been the most significant shift that will secure Tessafold's success.
