I had the pleasure of working with the Terra Force team lead by Mr. Nick from Q3 2022 onwards to develop a club membership system for my automatic car wash business to create a membership database, develop a registration website, connect a credit card payment gateway, and link the system to a license plate recognition camera that pushes / pulls new data daily to / from the database. 

During the concept phase of the project, things seemed relatively simple. Yet after beginning the project, we quickly found out that there were several complications with outdated / incomplete APIs, poor documentation / lacking support from the 3rd party companies that we were not expecting at the beginning of the project, posing unexpected challenges with setting up the system. On top of this, I am a self-proclaimed difficult customer with high expectations.

Although I have worked with developers before on other projects, this was the first time I specced out a project like this so although we had a clear outline, I(We) went into the project not knowing exactly what tools and functionality we needed for the final product. 

As the project took shape, I was constantly throwing new additions, design changes, and tweaks at the Terra Force team, creating a difficult and frustrating “on the fly” style development environment, which is a challenge for any software development team. Needless to say, the team is very capable in coding but because of the many complications, my project was not an easy one for this developer. 

Nick’s team was amazing in their efforts to get this difficult project working properly, taking each challenge seriously and using logic / creative solutions to solve each individual problem. His teams recommendations to unique challenges were valid, intelligent and useful. I could not be happier with the end result of the first version of the product. 

We are currently in the process of making additions and upgrades to the system, and the project is progressing well. I highly suggest working with this unique team – they are patient, productive, price competitive, and not afraid to tackle odd tasks – If you are in need of a unique piece of software and have a clear vision of the features and functionality that you want, this is the team that can get it done.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• It works the way I intended it to work when i designed it.

The project took much longer than we expected and also ran over budget, but this was not the fault of the developer / was expected due to unforseen complexities that arose during the development stage. Although my overall experience with the developer was good, The frequency of communication about project progress and project budget overruns has room for improvement.

I also had to complete a fair amount of the bug testing myself, but again, this was expected due to the unique challenges that we faced developing this software. Towards the end of the project I ended up bypassing management and working directly with my extremely talented lead programmer, Mr. Vadik, to get things done quickly / avoid miscommunications.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

As mentioned before, the project was very difficult. Although we had our share of challenges, I give TerraForce 5 stars for "sticking it out" and finishing the project. They were not afraid to challenge themselves / step outside of their comfort zone to actually get the software working. There were 3-4 people assigned to my team for most of the work. 

The team is diverse and there seems to be good working synergy between teammates, with each team member specializing in a different field of development. With any foreign developers, project details can often get "lost in translation" but if something was not understood after the initial discussion, the team is not afraid to ask questions along the way.

Are there any areas for improvement or something TerraForce Software could have done differently?

I've already mentioned this previously in the review.

The system works great and we have onboarded dozens of clients since the application was delivered.

Most of the tasks were accurately delivered on time and as we asked them to be developed.

The speed of their development process is impressive.

Sometimes could make an effort to consider the larger project goals, in order to provide suggestions based on that understanding. It is possible that the instructions given for developing a particular aspect of the project may not be clear or logical when working on it. Therefore, being proactive and suggesting alternative or improved approaches would be beneficial.
