Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

Casperon delivered and installed our existing platform. They handle end-to-end development and support while supporting the configuration of our servers and the installation of our app. The application is built for the web, iOS, and Android.

They mainly customize the platform to fulfill our requirements. They will continue to extend and enhance our service, provide IT support, and monitor the system.

What was the team composition?

We work with a shared, stable team that consists of a business analyst, quality assurance specialists, and several developers. They work closely with us on our IT requirements.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Our platform and related apps are going live.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Casperon Technologies Private Ltd uses Basecamp for project management and communication. They provide a fixed-price, fixed-time quote for each iteration. They always deliver our requirements within the price, but the deadline isn't always so easy.

The team is usually responsive and professional, although we've had some ups and downs. To deepen our relationship and understand the Indian business culture, we recently visited the team at their office.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their fixed price rates are transparent, realistic, and affordable. They're flexible within that price when the solution needs fine-tuning.

Are there any areas where they can improve?

Their ease of communication and sense of urgency fluctuate. That was one reason for our visit to India. Our visit began a personal relationship and introduced us to Indian business culture.

I am the CTO of a transportation company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Casperon?

Using the Uber model, we were developing an on-demand transportation platform for our clients. Since we didn’t have experience in this area, we had hired an in-house development team, but this proved too expensive.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Casperon has been the sole developer of our on-demand system. They developed the end-to-end user process; driver applications for the web, Android, and iOS; and our CRM tool. The backend was developed using PHP, with a MongoDB database. Our servers are hosted on AWS.

Aside from the normal on-demand component, they incorporated a metering system for the driver application. The feature can work with both normal cars and taxis, without the need for a separate taximeter device. Everything is built within the application.

What is the team composition?

They provided resources for end-to-end development and support. Casperon worked closely with us to fulfill order system and IT requirements, developing every function in these spaces. The only elements for which they did not provide support were business analysis and design. We preferred that the user interface design of the apps come from us.

How did you come to work with Casperon?

They had worked on a solution similar to the one we were building.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Casperon in early 2017. They have delivered two versions of the on-demand system so far, covering both the web and mobile apps and the CRM tool. We have an ongoing collaboration, with quite a few business requirements and products in the pipeline. We plan to implement an additional 15 services using Casperon’s team.

Casperon has delivered our requirements in a timely manner.

How did Casperon perform from a project management standpoint?

We used Basecamp for project management. So far, they’ve delivered our requirements above our expectations and within the designated timelines. In addition, they’ve provided a set of support functions to our company.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They need to improve their business analysis and design services, perhaps focusing more on the transportation sector. We have in-house teams for these areas, but would be willing to pass the work to Casperon and use them as an end-to-end solution provider.

Since the development demands around our platform are high, they should also focus more on keeping the timeline on track.

We have about 1,000 users and we're still growing.

As we continue to encounter issues with the platform, Casperon provides ongoing support.

How did Casperon Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicated through Skype, though responsiveness was a recurring issue. While they always responded to issues and concerns, this wasn’t always done in a timely manner.

They could also be better about explaining the root cause of problems to assure us the issues wouldn’t recur.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Overall, they're very affordable. A U.S.-based company would have charged significantly more for the services I received.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could be more prompt in responding to issues. Clear documentation regarding both the root cause of programming errors and the steps taken to prevent future reoccurrences would also be helpful.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Overall, they’re a good company for the price. Still, be cognizant of the fact that you will likely run into issues and they may be slow to react.

I brought them in because I needed help with technical issues for mobile applications, usually anything that relates to the servers, load speeds, or things of that nature.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They’ve contributed across the board from design to optimization of mobile apps and websites, as well as tech support. The design work included branding and marketing efforts as well. They primarily use Wordpress or PHP to develop the websites.

What is the team dynamic?

We’ve worked with a team of about 8 to 10 developers through the years, but they have over 100 people in their resources for any major projects.

How did you come to work with Casperon Technologies?

They actually found me and I took a chance with them. There wasn’t any particular quality why I chose them, they gave me their value proposition of what they could offer and I gave it a try. I’ve been with them ever since.

They’ve done a great job. I get feedback from my clients, but they never really know it’s Casperon because everything is done under my brand. However, as far as my company's concerned they’ve done a phenomenal job.

We communicate daily through Basecamp and email. They’re based in India, but there are no problems associated with the language or time barrier. I’ve been with them for six years, and that speaks for itself.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They want to provide a good service. They're always looking to expand, and have very good quality control as far as the people they hire. I've actually traveled to India personally and visited their location; I saw their facility and met their staff firsthand. I saw they’re well organized, and they have good infrastructure. I'm very pleased with them.

Be very detailed in what you want, as well as open and honest about your timeframes on deliverables and they’ll hit your target.

I’m the owner of InstaCraze, a social marketplace where people can buy and sell new and used items from each other’s closets. It is more like a social network in that people can connect, discover, inspire and complete their transactions.

What challenge were you trying to address with Casperon Technologies?

I needed someone experienced to help develop our website as well as the mobile app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The website includes a registration process, item listings, item search, and the capability to complete transactions online through credit card payment processing while providing a good user experience. They took care of web design, development, and database design.

For the backend, they used MongoDB and MySQL. They also built an admin interface for me that allows me to go in and change certain configurations and settings. On the frontend, they mostly used PHP, nopCommerce, and Node.js, as well as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The mobile app was developed for iOS only.

What is the team dynamic?

We had experts in different areas. There was an iOS developer focused solely on the mobile app. We also had a web services team behind the scenes, and from time to time, we had 3 – 4 developers. They had the shared testing team and infrastructure team help me a couple of times as well.

How did you come to work with Casperon Technologies?

I was referred to them by a friend. I was looking for software that was already there, which I could build on instead of starting from scratch. Casperon had some clone software and something to begin with which I got excited about, so I selected them based on that.

We started working with them around 1 1/2 years ago and the relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I have registrations, listings, and transactions happening on the website. We’re in more of a soft launch mode; I need to focus on marketing and really build the fashion community so that I can bring this solution forward to users.

How did Casperon Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

They were excellent. They’ve done a fantastic job for me and I’m really pleased that I connected with them. I had a single point of contact that I communicated with over Skype and chat. They also use Basecamp, where they maintain the requirements and communication over their testing issues, to-do lists, and more.

They were always available, answered all of my questions, and understood my requirements. It has been an absolutely fantastic experience. Although there was a time difference, they were quite flexible.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were quick to respond to my problems and requirements. They also already had a clone software that allowed me to see the functionality beforehand and they did a demo for me as well. From there, I was comfortable moving forward with them on this project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I think they do a fantastic job and they work hard. I don’t see any area of improvement at this point in time.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Stay connected with them over Skype or some type of real-time chat software so that you feel connected to them all the time. You can send them a quick message instead of communicating via email or the phone because it can be a challenge due to the time difference. Having a single point of contact appointed who understands your requirements and can also handle their technical team is very helpful as well.

I’m a jewelry designer and my husband and I have a small jewelry company. We launched my own collection two years ago when we started working with Team Tweaks. We sell through online channels as well as through trade shows, mostly retail high-end craft shows and art festivals and also a little bit wholesale and consignment.

Could you describe the business challenges you were attempting to address when you first approached Team Tweaks?

We wanted to build our website from scratch. We were beginning to consider a very substantial online project. My husband is Indonesian and I’ve spent many years living in Indonesia, so we’re comfortable working in the Asian market. We had limited time of our own to build the site, plus we didn’t really have the experience. We decided to cut costs by looking for developers in India.

How did you select Team Tweaks as your solution partner for this endeavor?

We found them on guru.com and contacted them. We also sent inquiries to a few other companies we found on their site.

Could you describe the scope of work delivered over the course of this initiative?

They were offering to build a complete ecommerce website for a very affordable price. They handled most of the grunt work. We did consult with them on our preferred design, but they built the site.

Could you provide a general cost estimate for this project?

I think it was $580. Three months after it was completed, they were going to continue to give us support.

It was launched November 2013.

In terms of results, could you share any statistics, metrics or user feedback that would demonstrate the effectiveness of the work they’ve delivered?

It was a very, very soft launch because it was the very beginning of our company. It wasn’t like we were moving from one website to another and have a lot of feedback opportunities. We didn’t want a lot of traffic at the beginning because we knew there would be a lot of glitches. It was mostly our own testing that we did on it, and then we’ve addressed issues as we’ve gone along. I’d say that, overall, the site was a success. We didn’t have a lot of expectations going into the project because we’d never had a website before. It was a learning experience for us as much as it was for them.

When working with Team Tweaks, is there anything you’d consider unique about their approach or development methodology that distinguishes them from other vendors?

We haven’t worked with anybody else, so I can’t compare services. I think the cost was great. Now, if they could provide a better service for that cost, I think they would have a lot of business. I don’t mean their technical design and development services, but rather their client communication skills.

In retrospect, are there areas in which you think Team Tweaks could improve as a service provider?

Like I said, I think that they really could benefit from some cross-cultural training, because Americans like clear and direct information. Sometimes, they would have Indian holidays, and we wouldn’t hear from them for a week, and that sometimes made us crazy. Pro-active communication would be my only recommendation.
