MEAE 2.0 is a game-based health app that aims to empower people by allowing them to take control of their own health. It will essentially give people control to become masters of their health in all aspects; mental, physical, and social health, eventually reversing the world’s declining health problems.

MEAE 2.0 will become part of the user’s daily life in a similar way that Facebook and Instagram are for social media, iTunes for music, Netflix for movies, and Amazon for books. Our goal is to successfully reverse the country’s declining health problems through user engagement and integration into the health care industry.

As MEAE 2.0 becomes part of the users daily life, and healthy habits are established, the user is rewarded and they begin to feel in control of their health, thus boosting their self-confidence. As their social group within the app grows, users connect with like-minded peers, connections are established, and feelings of isolation diminish which boosts social health.

MEAE 2.0 rewards users who complete health-based tasks with experience points and virtual coins, which can be used to customize an online avatar and its environment within the app. This allows the user to develop a public facing online avatar they can use to expresses their individuality.

The avatar will be have a distinct look that will be recognizable to other people in the public as an avatar from MEAE 2.0. In addition to ease of use and interaction with their healthcare providers, the user will also be rewarded real life rewards through the form of health based discounts and coupons. The app’s user base is encouraged to interact with each other by interacting through health-based tasks, gifting, and by providing each other moral support.

Every online interaction should be designed so that our user’s experience is a positive one. Additionally, every click, button interaction, animation of their avatar, etc. will be designed to give the users a sense of happiness and satisfaction. My role is the Chief Operating Officer at Meae 2.0.

Our app-based, healthcare "game" intends to create an entire healthcare profile for each user. However, it goes beyond that as well in also including a social and gamified aspect to each interaction. Therefore, the backend structure is incredibly complex and has multiple layers of security (for the healthcare information), and variable information (such as the gaming data) as well as API connections (for the social aspects). Our goals were to create a solid backend and frontend for the platform, both app-based and web-based.

We initially contacted Rheal due to strong recommendations from fellow companies in the healthcare sectors. There was a strong combination of skill, communication, dependency, and quality of work. These were key aspects we looked for in selecting our partnering vendor.

We began with a discovery session to cover all the different and varying functions our platform was to cover. These included identity and profile microservices (user settings, health documents and calendar, medication list, contacts), Avatar microservices (creating a 3D avatar and customizing physical aspects of it), Quest microservices (creating and editing quest functionalities assigned to users), Shopping microservices, mobile user applications, and admin web portal gateways. We used Unity for our full 3d game and Azure for our development in Java.

We worked with 5-10 people from the vendor's team. These included a technical program manager, architects, mobile developers, UI developers, and varying levels of software developers.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We have an in-hand, MVP of the app, functioning properly. We are now at the stages of giving notes on specific UI changes. We are also expanding to include more integrated games and broadening our scope. All expectations have been and exceeded, which is why we are continuing further to grow our platform.

Rheal has been very accommodating in adapting to whatever form of communication we prefer. We have fluctuated between emails, bi-weekly calls, excel spreadsheet trackers, Microsoft Teams, and Jira. They have been adapting to whatever we required or asked for.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

One of the most impressive things has been their ability to find creative solutions to complex problems. This is where their skill and experience comes into play. Even when it is a problem that is very rare and we have not encountered it before, they do their research in a timely manner and are able to find multiple solutions for us to choose from.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

The quality of work has been great. Their communication has been above excellent. And their accommodations to whatever we need has been more than kind. I would not change anything in my experience with Rheal.

During project churn, they have kept us informed as to the status of new project members. They have done a good job of keeping both the end customer and our customer satisfied.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

If we could have a broader portfolio of services offered (websites, languages, PM availability, QA testers, etc.) we could be more agile in identifying and qualifying future opportunities.

MY local IT guy recommended them.

Took time to see what i wanted by comparing other portals. Then worked to understand the exact data I have and then make the portal. Lastly direct the portal to interphase with my separate software. I cannot tell you the IT aspects of how that happened.

3, but only 2 at a time. Always had a manager and then the developer. We had gap in time from my end on the project so they assigned a new developer when we we ready to start again. Second was even better.

The management style was done by various zoom and team meetings. Time lines are really a partnership. If you have a quick need you need to tell them and stick to it. Understand they cant wait days and weeks for you to respond. I like the manager as the IT guys are not as easy to understand.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The price was very reasonable. They did not try and rip you off. Their hourly rate is good and didn't increase drastically over a years time which I was watching as it often happens. Not with these guys they were very good to explain additional costs as design always changes. I did like the flexibility of times of meetings as we are in different time zones.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I would say anticipate to a new client the likelihood the scope and quote most likely will change as the project grows. Knowing this I added 30% tot he quote just knowing I am not an IT guy and was not really communicating what I wanted. During the project (No Fault To Them) when I started to understand the build, I asked for changes as I thought I would and it increased the time and costs and scope. Which was close to 30%. Again not their fault, but could be disclaimed to a non IT guy that its like remodeling a home and if you ask for changes in the project it changes the costs. So just be ware you will ask for some changes. It is simply the process. Even with the 30% change in the quote it ended up 50% less than 3 other quotes. Would use in the future and have plans to do 2 more projects.

I am a technical lead for an Australia-based quantity surveying firm. We are in the property market and we do depreciation schedules for tax purposes. I develop a lot of the software at our company and work closely with all the systems that we use.

We wanted to expand our knowledge base and have our development team focus on more important tasks, so we hired Rheal Software to share some of the development work.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Rheal Software helped us with a couple of projects, one of which was app development. We had an old iOS app that we wanted to migrate to Android since a new fleet on Android is cheaper to buy than a new fleet on iOS. A lot of the old code was no longer reusable, so Rheal Software had to build the app from scratch. The team, however, preserved a core code that was already integrated with our existing system. 

The C# application was developed with Xamarin. Other technologies that we were familiar with were built with that tool, so we asked Rheal Software to use it as well. The team is now managing the app, updating and making changes to it as necessary.

Along with that, they are also managing our main .NET website. They oversee the integrations and the requests that are put through our marketing team. Rheal Software is also currently helped us rebuild the site’s backend to modernize some of the old APIs. 

We require a lot of ad hoc work from their team, so we reach out to them whenever necessary.

I’ve been in touch with Vishal (Founder & Director) and the two project leaders. We don’t have to talk to the technical team too often since they’re able to pass information and delegate among themselves.

I had my initial consultation with Vishal and from there decided to hire Rheal Software.

We have spent approximately $60,000 AUD (approximately $44,000 USD).

We started working with Rheal Software in March 2019. The engagement is ongoing and they have taken over the management of the website.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Rheal Software’s work requires minimal revision. They’re able to understand and execute our requirements, and we never have to worry about them not delivering according to our expectations. They ask good, relevant questions that show just how well they’ve grasped our objectives. 

Their involvement takes a significant load off of our internal team’s shoulders, especially since we don’t have to jump in and fix errors at the last minute. We’re very happy with the outcome of this partnership. 

How did Rheal Software perform from a project management standpoint?

Communication is great between us and is consolidated through the mediation of the project managers. We’re able to effectively relay questions and information from my end to the developer’s side, and vice versa. We communicate via Slack and hold meetings over Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

We also use Azure DevOps to manage our software and all of the user stories and requests around it. Through this, Rheal Software helps our internal team manage full requests and work with the source control. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Rheal Software has a good technical understanding. They’re able to grasp what we are asking and have the technical expertise to actually get the work done independently. They manage to work solutions out even when we’re not available to answer their questions. The quality of their code is also quite good. It is very clean, readable, and understandable. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could communicate their progress better. Especially when tasks pile on top of each other, we need to know what they are working on so that we can manage our requests as well.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have an initial chat with Rheal Software and provide them with the scope of work. I think having a face-to-face meeting is important when going over the requirements because it will allow everyone to ask questions. I find that to be very valuable and we have had great success in doing so. It’s also good to see the face behind who is actually doing the work and getting the chance to talk to them.

I’m the president and CEO of Tekoa Software, a 10-year-old company that sells software-related products. Our primary product is an ERP that specializes in make-to-order manufacturing for mid-market businesses. 

Specifically, our software tracks accounting financials, inventory, manufacturing workflow processes, reporting, and integration. It’s a one-stop business management solution for mid-sized manufacturing companies.

We needed some development support with our ERP package.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Rheal provides development support whenever our customers ask us to include a feature or functionality within our ERP. Our ERP package has several pieces, but it is primarily a Model-View-Controller (MVC) application written in C# and .NET. 

Our team works with end users to scope their designed modification and discover the business process they’re trying to support. We then write a technical specification that includes a detailed outline of the modification, the workflow steps that the user is trying to accomplish, and the actual technical details. 

We detail the database tables, fields, and queries that need to be modified and how they should be changed within the ERP. After that, we create a list of deliverables. 

We give all the technical documentation to Rheal, and they come back to us with a quote for the project. Upon approval from the end user, we release the project to Rheal, and they begin developing the solution.  

Our projects are 90% development and coding. However, there are cases when we might ask them to do some design since they’re familiar with our ERP’s layout. Occasionally, we use resources at Rheal to troubleshoot and resolve specific issues that our end users experience within the ERP — they deep dive into the code and help us fix the problem. 

Rheal Software has special, encrypted access into some of our internal systems where they perform development. We provide them the hardware resources to do the development. 

What is the team composition?

We interact with Percy (Senior Project Manager), Hitesh (Project Manager), and two engineers. Sometimes, we also speak with Vishal (President). 

How did you come to work with Rheal Software?

Vishal reached out to me, and we had a series of conversations. From there, we included them in our network of developers. They started bidding whenever we had new projects, and it didn’t take long for them to become our top developer. Due to their thoroughness and reliability, they evolved into becoming our primary ERP developer.

This year, we’ll be hitting around $100,000.

We started working together in January 2020, and it’s ongoing.

We’re in constant contact with our user base to figure out their feel for the modifications developed by Rheal. Generally, we receive positive feedback. We’ve also seen an increase in ERP usage and have sold more products. We’re pleased with where our relationship with Rheal is going, and we hope it continues. 

Rheal is thorough and conscientious — they listen and react to what they hear, and they’re very professional. I don’t have to repeatedly explain tasks like I do with other agencies. Other developers know how to code, but they don’t understand business processes. 

A unique aspect of our ERP development is it requires some understanding of how businesses work. In addition to their coding skills, Rheal understands business processes, making it a lot easier to work with them. I don’t have to explain what a sales order or journal entry is, as they already understand what those things are.

Rheal understands the specifications well enough that they come back and ask us questions. No specification is perfect; we appreciate that they clarify inconsistencies or illogical steps in the documentation. They really read and understand the specification, unlike other developers who don’t even read the specifications and just do the project on the fly. 

How did Rheal Software perform from a project management standpoint?

Rheal is good at budgeting — they stick to their initial estimate. Software development has its ups and downs, and sometimes things take longer than expected. However, generally speaking, Rheal hits our timelines more often than not.

We use Microsoft Teams for meetings. We have an in-house project management system that Rheal and all of our developers use, and it allows them to look at their projects, status, timelines, and message us directly. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Rheal says what they’re going to do, and they do what they say. Their statements are very reliable and consistent. You know what you’re going to get and how long it will take, and you can be certain that it will be a good quality product when they’re done. 

We’ve run so many times with developers who overpromise and underdeliver — they just want to get the work and figure it out along the way. However, Rheal is not like that.

They can improve on completely seeing things through. I understand that software development involves tight timelines and numerous projects, and things can get pretty hectic and stressful.

Be specific about what you want and when you want it. Be clear about specifications and keep your communication lines open.

Solver is a cloud (SaaS) Corporate Performance Management (CPM) software company. Our product focuses on financial and operational reporting, planing, and analysis. I am the Chief Technology Officer at Solver.

Solver started as a CPM/BI consulting company. As the organization matured, we began to extend the capabilities of the platform we sold and utilized Rheal Software to help build tools we could sell to our customers.

In 2009, Solver pivoted from a consulting organization to building our own CPM product. Because of the relationship we established with Rheal in prior years, we enlisted their team to help build the first generation of what is now the Solver cloud solution.

We interviewed many vendors near and off shore and found that Rheal was the best fit for our organization. The Solver values were aligned with the values instilled by the CEO and founder of Rheal and we were impressed not only with the knowledge of the engineers and project mangers but that they also maintained a very low turnover rate. Knowing that we wanted to build a long term relationship, we felt Rheal was the best vendor to begin that journey with.

In the early days, there were very few engineers on the Solver side, so we leveraged Rheal for much of the research and development.

We started with one engineer and one project manager from Rheal and grew the team to ten Rheal engineers. Most resources focused on API development but others were full stack engineers.

This included a project manager and lead engineer. Since the peak, Solver has built a large internal product team. However, Rheal is still part of our extended team just not at the same scale.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

There were many unknowns in the early years but the Rheal team quickly adapted to working with Solver. They were always proactive in pushing projects forward, even with countless unknowns. The clear and frequent communication was a major factor of the success we had working with their team.

We have also had great success because we were able to maintain the same engineers for many years. When an engineer did transition out, there were multiple months of handover in place to ensure no delays in development.

Rheal adapted to our processes, which was ideal for our needs. Communication started with a mix of emails and phone meetings. For instance, to discuss a new feature, a phone call was always needed. Anytime there was uncertainty, a phone meeting was requested by Rheal to answer the questions.

We later moved to the product management system used at Solver. Timelines were estimated and frequently updated by the Rheal team.

The team. Every Rheal team member we have worked with has been professional, knowledgeable, and friendly.

Most of the early challenges were from our growing pains. The Rheal management was always clear of their strengths and weaknesses which, over time, helped us better manage the team.

The amount of man hours this software has saved me is probably in the hundreds of thousands of dollars at this point. We are extremely happy with the end result, and the best part about it is that they are still involved with us so if we ever want to make updates or changes they are there to continue to help when we need it.
