being a start-up, we needed an MVP to test the market and collect feedback and response from users. We needed a mobile app to be developed with basic features to begin with, but with enough flexibility to scale up quickly after the launch of the MVP.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to test the waters with a simple and easy to use mobile app. we also needed the mobile app to be easy to update on our end, so we were interested in a simmple, user friendly platform.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We searched online as well as through personal and professional networks for app developers. we received interest from 5 developers and development companies. We shortlisted Pixometry based on the case studies they provided. Their previous experience with start-ups was in line with our requirements. They also came highly recommended from their other clients.

Describe the project in detail.

The scope of work is the development of our Android Application as per the requirements specifications provided. Development Platform: React Native Application Deployment platform: Android 7.0, Android 7.1.2, Android 8.1, Android 9.0, Android 10.0 Cloud Provider: AWS.

Client will create an AWS Dev Account in which the Developer will deploy the code, perform functional and performance testing. On successful completion of the project, the code will be deployed in the AWS Production environment that is spun by the Client. Storage: The pictures of home food should be stored in S3 in AWS UI designs ands wireframes workflows were provided.

What was the team composition?

We were assigned a Key project contact for communication and project management. The team included UI developers, API developers, database specialist and the QA team. After 4 to 5 weeks, the key project contact changed but the handover was quite smooth. The rest of the team remained same for the duration of the project.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

After the go-live of the app, we received positive feedback from the users regarding the easy of use and simple interface. This feedback was mostly collected one-on-one from first 25 individual users (mostly home cooks). The final app had some minor bugs which were fixed promptly during the post-production phase.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We had daily stand up meetings with the team over Zoom, which was efficient and effective way to communicate. We also used spreadsheets to record and track bugs raised during UAT.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The single best feature of Pixometry is the responsiveness of the team. Prompt communication really helps in removing roadblocks as quickly as possible. The other strength I would like to mention is the support the team provided in terms of offering solutions to problem and challenges that were discovered during the course of the project.

Being a start-up, this support was critical for us. The team did not hesitate in using their expertise as well as learning from past experiences, in offering us possible solutions to some business challenges. One example of this is incorporating discount and GST calculation in our check-out screen.

Are there any areas for improvement?

The only area of improvement I would like to suggest is more effective QA to reduce the number of bugs raised in UAT

We frequently hire subcontractors for when we don’t have the time or expertise for certain projects. One project we needed development help on was a geolocation mobile app.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Pixometry Infosoft Pvt. Ltd. has become a longterm development partner of ours. Their team developed an Android app for snow removal drivers. The app provides a mapping system for drivers that displays their current location and the route they should take. 

This app had some high tech requirements that Pixometry Infosoft Pvt. Ltd. was able to deliver for us. For example, the app has to be available offline. In case of inclement weather or a lack of service, drivers need to be able to see their live position without Internet access.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The app is easy to use and intuitive for drivers. Even though it was developed a few years ago, drivers continue to use it. It’s been working great so far even in crazy weather conditions, it never fails. Pixometry Infosoft Pvt. Ltd. is able to create powerful apps despite very complex technological challenges.

How did Pixometry Infosoft Pvt. Ltd. perform from a project management standpoint?

Pixometry Infosoft Pvt. Ltd. consistently delivers everything on time. Our teams communicate via email. We provide them with a timeline for what needs to be done and they stick to it. They have an excellent turnaround time and are always there to answer our questions. We’ve worked with a lot of outsourced teams, but they’re the only ones we’ve stuck with all this time. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their technical know-how stands out, they can solve very complex requirements. Pixometry Infosoft Pvt. Ltd. is at the expert level when it comes to that, and they always make their deadlines. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, everything has been great. If anything, I wish they were located closer. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be prepared with very clear requirements and have clear expectations. Voice both of those and have them in written form. Precision is key, that’s the best way to work with Pixometry Infosoft Pvt. Ltd.

I am the founder and CEO of a curated wine company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Pixometry Infosoft?

Our challenge, building a mobile recommendation engine, hadn’t been accomplished in the industry before. Wine has a lot of variety, and people don’t generally know what’s best in terms of price or the food pairings. We had to integrate all this into a usable mobile UX with a sophisticated backend, APIs, and recommendation capabilities.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Pixometry did everything from requirements refinement and user interface testing to development, API creation, security, authentication, integrations with the backend, and various stack-compliance measures for Android and iOS. The web technology stack was WordPress.

They’ve modified some wireframes and refined some designs. We rely on them for modification, not creation.

We have key features like full geolocation optimization and display. We have fairly good geolocation accuracy, with the least possible overhead in APIs and battery drain. This was one of Pixometry’s key contributions. They handle integrations with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and our backend integration with the CMS.

What is the team composition?

We have teams with different leads for each aspect of development. We had one primary go-to person for both business and technical elements. He was more involved with project management than development, although he can look over any mobile- or web-based code.

Our organization is very integrated, with cross-functional, direct contact. Accordingly, our Scrum master directly accesses the standups and developers. We use an agile design-refine-execute model, and have had multiple points of contact over an extended period.

How did you come to work with Pixometry Infosoft?

We went through an extensive evaluation several years ago. It was a bake-off type of scenario for finding an organization that was not too small or too big. We looked at responsiveness, pricing, experience, and willingness to be a partner. They’re truly an extended part of the organization. They’re extremely responsive, and we’ve dealt a significant amount of money and time over the duration. This speaks volumes for them, as an organization.

How much have you invested with them?

The cost of their work has been around $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Pixometry in 2010 and have been together for several years. We've dealt with all the same people. They morphed when they rebranded to Pixometry around 2016. The collaboration is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Their impact has been significant and positive. The product's look-and-feel has evolved over time. We have a new version coming out, and we’re migrating to something almost current. Given the latency between development and rollout, we're already behind as soon as we’re current.

They’ve done some extraordinary things, whether it was fixing bugs, handling maintenance issues, addressing stack failures, or changing elements within our environment. We can reach them late at night and during holidays, and they’ve been very responsive.

How did Pixometry Infosoft perform from a project management standpoint?

As with most projects, our communications are relatively fluid. Their communications—as part an agile Jira development environment—are timely. We don’t have the long durations expected in waterfall communications. Most of the people we've spoken to have no verbal problems and very strong writing skills.

We have a normal time-flex agreement. They work very late into our day, which isn't unreasonable. It’s not North American timing, but they work extended days, so we had more than enough overlap.

We use Jira and email. They're quite open to using Slack or our preferred tool, unlike other providers who required us to use their system. Pixometry is quite nimble and flexible. As we migrate to different systems, they migrate with us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It’s not just a transaction. They have a vested interest in making us successful.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could pursue opportunities to ensure they understand the business. The more transactional relationships, where you just need a small piece of development without a lot of business awareness, are only one model. If you want business awareness, then both the client and the agency must make time investments. We've done it naturally over an extended period, but it's important to make sure everyone is aligned on the frontend. 

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Select some development systems like Jira or Slack, and have a higher initial frequency of meetings for alignment. Investing in the frontend is important for success.

I’m senior software developer at an event registration company. I’ve also had different roles within the company, including product admin and owner.

What challenge were you trying to address with Pixometry Infosoft?

We have different apps that we use internally and externally. At the time, mobile was booming and we needed to get on the market quickly to keep up with competition. We had a .NET which was developed in-house, but we needed a mobile app that was compatible with iOS and Android.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They help us create our iOS and Android apps, including design, backend development, and infrastructure for both devices. Today, we are basically one of the best in the market, and Pixometry Infosoft helped us get there.

We’re going into a fourth version, and they’ve been with us since the first. We’ve introduced SMS integrations for the newest version, including messaging and notifications for the user to be updated on everything happening during a show. We’re in the tradeshow business, so if something happens during the show, if something isn’t working, or if we make a sale, it’s very important to relay this information to our customers. This feature allows us to update our customers and it lets them talk to each other via text message. Instead of opening their phone and sending a text to their salesperson, they can do that directly in our app. They can manage their whole sales team through our app, and Pixometry Infosoft helped us find and implement the technology to accomplish this.

The app was successfully created from a customer perspective. We used to have a whole hardware, but we decided to create our own version of the app to be used internally. From that, they helped us modify the app to control how it was being used. Everything is firewalled in the app, so you can’t change anything, which helped us lock down the devices. We also eventually decided to redo our .NET application with them, which is slightly different because of the interface involved. We had to redesign the entire thing to be fit for computers, and we did a version for Windows as well as Mac.

We try to do two updates to the app yearly. In between that, we have different applications across the entire registration system that they frequently help with. We scope anything related to the app in-house, gather the requirements, then send it to Pixometry Infotech for development.

What is the team dynamic?

My main contact is Hetal [IT and Mobile Services Consultant, Pixometry Infosoft]. I also have contract with his senior developers, including Ravi [Sr. Software Engineer, Pixometry Infosoft]. We use Agile methodology, so we work on our tickets and backlogs to make sure everything is organized and ready to go. From that, Hetal [IT and Mobile Services Consultant, Pixometry Infosft] manages his own team, but I’m not sure how many different teams are working on it from his side.

How did you come to work with Pixometry Infosoft?

We hired a different company 5-7 years ago in the US. At that time, we were looking for mobile development, and the cost was very high. We already had 4-5 different vets for our app, so it was a huge project that we started from the ground up. I believe the company that was subcontracting them went out of business, so we were about 80% done with our app. Then, Hetal [IT and Mobile Services Consultant, Pixometry Infosoft] reached out to us and convinced us to work with them to finish the app and get it launched. This is where our partnership started, and we’ve created great things since then.

We’ve spent $150,000-$200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in November 2015, and the relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

During one of our 150 yearly events, one of our biggest clients had about 800,000 calls through our app in a span of 10 days. Everything went smoothly with that because we didn’t have any delays and nothing crashed. This was about a month after we released a new version of the app, so we were afraid bugs may cause issues, but they didn’t.

The work Pixometry Infosoft has helped us with has put us at the top of the market. We are now one of the three biggest registration companies in the US, and our apps helped get us there.

Pixometry Infosoft helped us with Agile methodology, which we previously struggled with when we tried to introduce it into our development. Hetal [IT and Mobile Services Consultant, Pixometry Infosoft] has helped with this, as well as in organization of backlogs, tickets, working on Sprints, and making sure we are on time. Right now, we do 2 week Sprints, and we have a good understanding of what we’re doing. We’re also moving faster with development because of this, which has been great.

How did Pixometry Infosoft perform from a project management standpoint?

We usually use WhatsApp for regular communication, and every morning I screen share with them, which usually takes about 10-15 minutes. We use this time to check on everything and see if there are any roadblocks for our projects. If there are any issues, we escalate internally to find solutions. I have direct, daily contact with Hetal [IT and Mobile Services Consultant, Pixometry Infosoft] and Ravi [Sr. Software Engineer, Pixometry Infosoft] through Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m a developer myself, and I’ve also been a product admin where I had to manage the entire scope of a project, so we both share a passion for technology. They are willing to go miles to find a solution for your problem. I had another case where we had an issue on site in New York, so I went there immediately and called Hetal [IT and Mobile Services Consultant, Pixometry Infosoft] to tell him I needed assistance that night. He stayed up with me until 2 AM trying to find the bug, and we were able to release the new version the next day because he helped me resolve the issue. It’s the little things like this that make Pixometry Infosoft stand out.

I now treat them as if they are a part of my team. Since the beginning of this project, it’s been about passion, commitment, and achieving great things.

Are there any areas they could improve?

At first, they were missing Agile, but they’ve since become very good at it because one of their other clients also uses it. We were trying to integrate this into our process, but other projects had interfered. We didn’t understand the whole concept, but since we started using Agile, it seems as if we can produce better software. This is not an area Pixometry Infosoft needs to improve upon, but rather an area we need to compensate and focus on more.
