We undertook a complete rebuild of the StoryTowns mobile application using Supabase as the backend platform. The project encompassed several core components designed to enhance functionality, user experience, and scalability.

Scope of Work:

• Platform Migration: Transitioned the backend infrastructure to Supabase, streamlining the database, authentication, and serverless functions for a more modern and efficient tech stack.
• Geolocation System: Developed a dynamic geolocation feature to support GPS-triggered content, enabling users to unlock stories, scavenger hunts, or audio tours based on their real-time location.
• Paywall Integration: Designed and implemented a paywall system to support monetisation. This included subscription management, one-time purchases, and access control based on payment status.
• User Interface and Design: Rebuilt the app’s front-end interface with a clean, user-friendly design, optimised for both iOS and Android devices. The UI reflects StoryTowns’ brand identity and is built with mobile responsiveness and accessibility in mind.
• Audio Player: Integrated a custom audio player to deliver smooth, location-based audio playback. Features include play/pause controls, skip functionality, background playback, and progress tracking.

The StoryTowns app rebuild delivered a range of tangible improvements that demonstrate the project’s success:

Stability and Performance: The move to Supabase significantly improved the reliability of the app, reducing backend errors and improving overall system performance.

• Improved User Experience: With a redesigned interface and smoother navigation, users reported a more intuitive and enjoyable experience across both iOS and Android devices.
• Monetisation Infrastructure: The introduction of a paywall system enabled the platform to begin generating revenue directly through in-app purchases and subscriptions.
• Geolocation Functionality: The new location-based features allowed for real-time, GPS-triggered content delivery, enabling new types of experiences like scavenger hunts and site-specific audio tours.
• Streamlined Content Delivery: The custom audio player improved the way users access and interact with stories, offering reliable playback and better control.
• Foundations for Growth: The rebuild laid the groundwork for scalable content management, allowing StoryTowns to expand its offerings to more towns and events without major infrastructure changes.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What impressed me most about this company is their honesty, transparency, and commitment to doing things properly. I went through seven different app development teams before finally finding Numbelsite, and the difference was clear from day one.

They don’t cut corners. Every part of the build was thoughtfully executed, with a focus on long-term functionality and quality—not just quick fixes. Their communication was consistently clear and open, and they were upfront about what would or wouldn’t work.
