I’m a director at a health insurance company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with InVision Communications?

We wanted to create a video that talked about our innovative technology that’s coming down the line. The technology wasn’t fully developed yet, so we needed to help people visualize it before it launched. We also wanted to create an innovative mobile app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

InVision Communications provided animated video production for us. We gave them a storyboard and a script for the voiceover we wanted. They were instructed to visualize that script and create animations to describe our technology, including work in 3D animation. They made two videos for us. 

Additionally, we asked InVision Communications to do some mock designs for an innovative insurance app. 

What is the team composition?

We worked with 3–4 teammates from InVision Communications. 

How did you come to work with InVision Communications?

I joined mid-project, so I’m unsure how we found them. However, I believe a colleague may have found them through a referral.

How much have you invested with them?

Each video cost around $80,000, so we spent about $160,000 with them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from around January–May 2020.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

How did your relationship with the vendor evolve?

InVision Communications delivered the mock designs with typos, and the typography was very poor because it wasn't modern. The designs looked like they'd been done by an amateur instead of the senior professional designer we paid for. 

I come from a design background, and once I joined the project, I knew their work wasn't up to standard. No one else would have caught these mistakes if it hadn't been for me coming on board when I did. They didn't have a seasoned designer or a creative director to spot errors before delivering a rough draft, which was frustrating. As for the videos, I don't know how they performed in terms of clicks. 

Describe the impact this engagement has had on your business.

Our experience with them wasn't positive because their quality of work wasn't very good. This situation left a sour taste in our mouths because we paid a lot of money and didn't get the quality we expected.  

How was project management handled?

Their project management was subpar; we went over budget, and they didn't tell us when we were close to reaching our cap, which was poor management on their side. We never met in person; our communication was all virtual through video conferencing. 

Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?

Their 3D animation was pretty good and professional. 

In what specific areas can they improve?

They needed to check the quality of work and step up their game to keep up with the competition. We worked with them in 2020, so I don't know if they've improved by now. 

What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?

I wouldn't recommend them. However, if you work with them, I'd suggest establishing the budget limits and asking them to notify you how much they've spent. Be clear and transparent.
