Although the e-commerce platform was built by our team, Honeycomb Software made sure all elements connected seamlessly, providing a cohesive and user-friendly experience.

At the development stage, the team implemented an AI-powered activity recommendation engine, using advanced learning machine frameworks. The engine utilized collaborative and content-based filtering algorithms to analyze user data and provide highly personalized suggestions that align with users' goals, preferences, and constraints. For instance, it could suggest low-impact exercises for older users or high-intensity workouts for young adults. 

As for the wearables, using APIs and data pipelines, the team connected devices like Apple Watch to collect needed data. This allowed the platform to collect key data points such as heart rate, activity patterns, and more, and provide valuable insights for users. Software Requirements Specification for GrowerInTheLoop Customer Portal:

1. Background and Context: GrowerInTheLoop is a service tailored for the cannabis industry, focusing on cannabis cultivation facilities and growers. The primary audience includes Master Growers, cultivation staff, operations managers, and cultivation facility owners. The service offers a maturity model report to attract customers, aiming to evolve into a platform offering online services, software, and training materials. A critical component of this service is the development of a customer portal. Additional information about GrowerInTheLoop can be found at GrowerInTheLoop.com.
2. Business Requirements for Customer Portal:
   1.  Authentication and Account Management: Clients must be able to register and sign in using their company email, name, and company name. Initial sign-in must be straightforward but must incorporate multi-factor authentication. Clients should have self-service capabilities for password changes and account updates. Clients must have the option to delete their account, which will remove the account from the identity provider (likely Azure Active Directory) without deleting internal information captured in the portal. 
   2. Account Settings and Information Accessibility: Each client account should include complete contact information. The portal should provide two tiers of information: Free services, products, and information accessible to all members. Exclusive content and services for individual clients. Clients should not be able to share their exclusive content in the initial version. The portal should offer downloadable content and applications accessible within the portal. 
   3. Payment Processing: The portal must securely process credit card payments using a major U.S. payment processor (e.g., Stripe). - We chose not to implement this yet. 
   4. Administrator Access and Content Management: Administrators should be able to view client information, excluding sensitive data like passwords and credit card numbers. Administrators must be able to upload content, designate it as free or paid, and receive notifications and transaction details for client purchases.
3. Technical Requirements:
   1. Infrastructure and Development Environment: The portal will be hosted on an Azure Subscription, with access provided to necessary team members. Development should utilize the latest version of .NET in C#, React for client UI elements, and an Azure SQL database.
   2. Architecture and Design: The solution should include both an API and a Web Front End. The software architecture should prioritize extensibility and maintainability. Given the expected user scale, a simple monolithic solution is preferred.
   3. Source Code Management and Deployment: The codebase should be hosted on Azure DevOps, with a project set up and team access provided. Integration with Azure Subscription for CI/CD processes should be leveraged.
   4. Project Management Approach: An agile methodology is preferred, with flexibility regarding daily standups and sprint structures. Their questions were clear, and they immediately understood what we wanted technically as well as timeline and budget. For what projects/services did your company hire Honeycomb Software?

Ligo is a platform which allows users to connect with STEM talent across organizations and research institutions, to develop collaborative projects aimed at solving open innovation challenges within industries. We are launching an MVP to validate product-market fit, so we wanted it to work well and be a great product for users. That’s why we started to collaborate with Honeycomb Software, as we needed testing services.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

After a few meetings and intro with the QA Engineer, we started the testing process. QA Engineer started with exploration testing of the platform and submitted the issues found in the Trello bug board with the attachments and repro steps. The development team had an opportunity to track it and work on fixing those issues. We were able to perform regression testing of the platform as well, which helped us to improve the product even more.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

The project went initially through user experience validation using UX wireframes and a high-fidelity prototype. After insights were collected from this initial testing, we started developing a functional MVP and performed QA testing with Honeycomb Software to identify and correct bugs in the platform.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The main goal was to prepare the product for release. The result of the QA work was 30 reported issues, almost 50% of which were fixed and retested right away, the rest left to be handled in due course of work. The cooperation with the QA also gave us possible ideas for further improvement of our product.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

At the very beginning, we outlined the scope which was subject to testing prior to our release and were able to see the progress according to the planned schedule. We were very flexible in our communication. Test reports were sent to us through e-mail, but also there was extensive effective communication of the QA with the developers in Discord messenger, which allowed instant feedback. There were also zoom calls once or twice a week to align our efforts.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We appreciate the support during the testing process. The communication was great, and if we wanted to discuss something, we just jumped on a call and worked out a solution. Additionally, we got the opportunity to communicate with the QA lead as needed. We were also surprised by the quality of the deliverables and the test log that was provided, which allowed our development team to seamlessly replicate errors and helped us refine our own bug-fixing process.

I'm the CCO and one of the co-founders at Pelt8. We provide a platform for companies to collect sustainability data in an easy and auditable way.

What challenge were you trying to address with Honeycomb Software?

We needed support to speed up the development of our platform, so we hired Honeycomb Software.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We initially provided Honeycomb Software with information about what we wanted to do. After that, we’ve been working collaboratively to develop our software; most of the work is done on the frontend using Azure DevOps. Their team also helps implement our designs when it comes to creating new reports.

What is the team composition?

We're in contact with three people from their side: the CEO, CTO, and a software developer.

How did you come to work with Honeycomb Software?

We were looking for potential software development providers. We had a chat with Honeycomb Software, and their CEO left a good impression on us. We felt like their approach was more personal and that they weren’t just trying to sell us something. Hence, we decided to go with their team for this project.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent between $10,000–$50,000 so far. 

What is the status of the engagement?

We began working together in September 2022, and the project is still ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

So far, Honeycomb Software has exceeded our expectations. Initially, we planned to get our software to a certain stage by the end of 2022 with at least four developers. However, we’ve managed to reach that stage with just one full-time developer from our team and theirs. Overall, their team has been very efficient with their work.

How did Honeycomb Software perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve done a perfect job from a project management standpoint — most of the work is completed ahead of schedule. For communication, we interact via Google Meet and email.
 
Are there any areas they could improve?

At one point, we were looking for a more senior developer because we felt that the person that was pushed forward was not fulfilling our needs. That was the only moment when we decided against expanding our relationship.
