I’m the managing director of Llama Digital. We create location-aware mobile applications.

What challenge were you trying to address with DMD Binary?

We lost one of our in-house iOS developers and urgently needed to fill that gap.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They’ve provided iOS development for Situate, one of our lead products. The platform assists museums, galleries, and heritage organizations in creating mobile app visitor guides. They also helped on a separate project that was similar, but with its own unique features. We continue to partner with them for iOS development.

We've worked with three people over the past year.

How did you come to work with DMD Binary?

We found them through a directory website. I’ve found that many vendors listed on these sites offer unrealistic promises and fail to deliver, but I could tell DMD Binary was a genuine, qualified company. They quickly responded to our offer and seemed to understand our needs.

How much have you invested with them?

Around $2,500 per month.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in August 2016 and our relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

As mobile app creators, we understand the development process, so we would know if DMD was pulling the wool over our eyes. They’ve been an excellent partner and we have a professional relationship.

How did DMD Binary perform from a project management standpoint?

We’re fairly diligent on our end. We use an online ticket system which acts as a hub for tasks and prioritization, and we communicate on a daily basis through Slack. They also have staff that keeps track of hours and checks in to make sure we’re satisfied.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re excellent with communication. They keep us informed of their progress so that we know what tasks their working on and when we can expect completion. Even though they work remotely, we consider them an extension of our internal team.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I'm happy with the way things are.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

It’s helpful to have tools in place for communication and project management. When you're working with anyone in this sort of arrangement, both parties need to set clear parameters. Be willing to compromise, but you’ll establish a solid working relationship as long as you communicate openly.

We’re a small interactive/gaming company. Our team consists of four people now, and I am the Chief Executive Officer. I wear quite a few hats. I do some development work and do project management as well.

We used DMD Binary for mainly coding and iOS work.

What was the scope of their involvement?

It’s great because DMD Binary is based out of Ukraine, so with the 8-hour delay we have a great work cycle. I can tell them about a few things we need, I go to bed, and when I wake up they’re potentially completed. We have a great rapport.

How did you come to work with DMD Binary?

I met the project manager at DMD in early 2012. Since then, they’ve been the hard-core development wing of our company. I reach out to them almost anytime I have something pop up.

How much have you invested with DMD Binary?

We spend around $10,000 to $50,000. It’s gone up and down depending on the projects.

What is the status of this engagement?

It was February of 2012 when I first met their project manager.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

The first project I did with DMD Binary was based on an old Atari game called Hungry Lizards. It was a $.99 cent game for iOS only and we ended up getting 60,000+ downloads, which was pretty big. We used DMD as the developers. I think it was a really well done smash hit as far as I’m concerned. The second project was an Apple watch app that DMD worked with us on. The app was called Thermo Diem and it would basically tell you pertinent information about the weather. It ended up being one of the featured apps for the watch, which was pretty cool. I have used DMD Binary for a lot of different projects.

What did you find most impressive about DMD Binary?

The reason I’m still dealing with them almost four years later is because of their excellent communication. Their English is great and there’s no language barrier. Back in 2012, it was Skype. Now it’s Slack. If I send them a message at 10:00 at night, they’re answering it. I don’t know how, but someone always answers. Communication is definitely their strong suit.

Another thing I really value from DMD Binary is how they respond when I make a to-do list for them that deals with a lot of logic around user experience. I will think I’ve covered everything, but I will still get questions back from them. They’ll point out improvements for the user experience. I really like that they don’t just literally do whatever I tell them, but rather they assess what I give them and offer their own opinions. It’s gone beyond just a business relationship and has developed into a rapport. Their quality of work is great as well. I’m a developer by trade, so when I get work back from them, I’ll go through their code and it’s always really well written and easily understandable.

Are there any areas DMD Binary could improve?

The only thing I can think of is having them move to the US. Working with DMD, there’s no face to face, unless you count Skype.

I am working with DMD Binary with two companies. My personal company here in Istanbul is DK Consulting and Development. We develop mobile applications geared towards loyalty programs and storage on-demand applications. I also work for Audible Broadcasting in West Palm Beach, Florida where we develop mobile applications for law enforcement agencies.

I own DK Consulting and Development, and I also work as CTO [Chief Technology Officer] of Audible Broadcasting.

What challenge were you trying to address with DMD Binary?

We needed DMD Binary for app development and backend development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We are developing Android and iOS apps together. DMD is also providing .NET and PHP development for the backend of these mobile applications.

How did you come to work with DMD Binary?

Two years ago, I found them through Freelancer.com because I needed some small work at the start. I then noticed that they are not just a freelancer company, but rather they are a full-fledged app development company. Slowly, we increased the volume of the work we were doing together. We introduced more details, and then at some point we started making projects from scratch. They have succeeded in taking over problematic projects by fixing the issues and making them work as they should.

The size of a typical project is $10,000 to $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We have had a very good relationship with DMD Binary and have now been working together for two years.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

From working with DMD Binary, there has been one really successful project. We worked with the Palm Beach Sherriff’s Office to create a simple audio traffic application, and we have since built their entire new mobile application, which is called Connect Protect Palm Beach. The app lets its users report crime or send any tips to law enforcement with geolocation. The public is responding very well to this campaign, which we were not expecting, and they are getting a lot of feedback every day. 90% to 95% of the tips are correct and the app is leading to more accurately targeted arrests.

What did you find most impressive about DMD Binary?

They are very methodic and they do everything by the book. They are not flexible about bending any rules which has actually been helping us a lot with big projects.

Are there any areas DMD Binary could improve?

Our volume is growing, and we will be working with more law enforcement agencies, so they are hiring more people right now. They are growing. Other than that, I don’t see anything they need to improve. They just need to increase the quantity of their employees. That’s all.
