For what projects/services did your company hire Codepixel?

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely disrupted the normal functioning of populations around the world and threaten the health of all, but women and girls are disproportionately affected. As communities around the world are forced to stay at home, women and girls are at a heightened risk of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, and other forms of sexual and gender-based violence.

Because pandemic exacerbate pre-existing gender inequities and power hierarchies, violence in the home may worsen as prolonged quarantine and economic stressors increase tension in the household. Women and girls are isolated from the people and resources that can help them, and they have few opportunities to distance themselves from their abusers. Here, technological solutions could be of great help. In order to assure swift support to victims of GBV mobile application "Be Safe" has been developed.

What were your goals for this project?

The main goal was to design and create a simple user-friendly, SOS mobile application for iOS and Android, with the possibility of triggering swift connection with National SOS helpline via text message with a precise geo-location.

How did you select this vendor?

We already collaborated with Codepixel in the past. They have a good track record and good reviews of other clients, Moreover, possibility of working on a tight schedule was additional reasoning.

Describe the project in detail.

Upon TOR developed for the provider started intensive work with Codepixel with series of online discussions of the goal of the project in the context of remote work and lockdown of the country due to pandemic that was in its peak. We received the first UX/UI design mockups within 2 days.

Codepixel offered excellent framework that was talked trough in a spirit of good partnership and mutual understanding that resulted with fast solutions finding for different key functionalities, such as connecting the SMS service with the in-app alert button for bringing immediate help to the victims. They also created multi-language features for two languages.

As soon as we started to work with Codepixel we got into a series of online calls to discuss the goal of the project because remote work was at its peak. All following UNDP requests have been met:

• women friendly app
• non-sexist design
• matches women's autonomy preserved proces
• provides number of opportunities for support to victim of GBV
• reduced internet-depandanse

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The app has already gained massive traction among the potential victims of domestic violence. It reached close to 5 thousand downloads in less than 10 days, with an average rating 4.6 for both iOS and Android combined.

We received quite a lot of positive feedback from other UNDP and UN Women offices in the neighbouring countries, and they have shown interest in adopting the app for those countries as well.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The communication was easy and fast. Because of the pandemic we used only online communication resources like Zoom and Viber. Codepixel performed with high flexibility and extraordinary client oriented service delivery.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We were impressed with the speed with which the work was carried out, handling all the features and optimization. Also we would like to note their comprehensive awareness, assistance in documentation regarding legal aspects and privacy policy.

In my opinion, we established faster interaction with clients, while providing value, and not distracting them with unnecessary infromation.

Project management was effective, easy to arrange, and in time.

Most impressive is their willingness to meet with client's requirements, which sometimes tend to be really advanced.

At that moment Codepixel was young company, they worked too hard to meet requirements. If they were a bit stricter on technical suggestions, and more relaxed afterwards, result might even be better.

We screened several vendors and compared prices as well as the tech stack and proposal. We selected them on the basis of their understanding of the scope of work and the JS framework they were using.

They provided front-end development for 3 static pages based on mockups provided and feature specifications. They had to render JSON data using frontend JS logic.

The project was delivered smoothly and professionally. This enabled us to kick start our PR campaign.

The project management was excellent. We provided deadlines, and they talked about feasibility. In almost every instance, they delivered ahead of schedule.

I was very impressed by their attention to detail. They asked thoughtful questions to truly understand our technical needs so as not to over-engineer a solution. They also added finishing touches not specified in our design mockups. It was a great collaboration.

In a very short period, after the launching product, we managed to obtain tens of thousands of users. Codepixel was very fast to make necessary adjustments we needed.
