For what projects/services did your company hire chrum.it, and what were your goals?

We wanted to develop a mobile app for our Students. Our goal was to provide students with additional means of learning and revising material from our courses.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We posted job ads and project briefs on freelance websites. We went on to discus project details with a few vendors. Chrum.it stood out not only with technical knowledge but also excellence communication.

We had a few meeting and quickly agreed a on a workflow including code subemitent, project management and task assignment. Chrum.it was responsible for building the PWA using the Ionic framework. The app was to communicate with our backed.

We worked with two Chrum.it team members: a senior developer and a junior front end developer.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Within 2 months we managed to employ almost all planned functionalities. The code was of high quality. The cooperation in general was a pleasure. The vendor understood and delivered on all our expectations.

We communicated using email, trello , phone and videoconferencing. The vendor was always prepared and on time . Meetings were on topic and productive.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The code quality and effortless and productive communication were very impressive and is something we find unique in IT services. We would be happy to cooperate with the vendor again.

Nothing comes to mind.

I'm an assistant professor at a medical school. We study proteins in the context of cancer, aging, and infectious diseases.

What challenge were you trying to address with Chrum.?

They helped us develop software to extract signals produced by an instrument called a mass spectrometer.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Chrum.it helped us develop the software that we use to extract the signals from the data we produce. Their work was essential because we were explicitly analyzing protein modifications and these proteins generate a very complex spectrum that needed to be deconvoluted.

A mass spectrometer is a device that provides a spectrum when you inject molecules into it. This spectrum contains masses corresponding to the molecules that you infiltrate. The software developers helped us produce this tool, which we still use today in several peer-reviewed scientific publications — it created the basis for more advanced analysis that we do today.

Chrum.it’s team didn’t know about proteins and this kind of spectra, but I explained to them what kind of signals we wanted to extract, and they went on and created the first iteration of the software. After that, we met again to make the platform’s UI. The software can also be used for people who don't know anything about standard lines, and it's enough that we upload the files that we need to extract the signals from.

The platform is standalone and needs Java to run it. Different software for protein analysis generates the input data required. It's not mobile or a web app. It's an Excel file that you can download from the web but run on your PC.

I was referred to them by a friend of mine.

It was pro bono work from them; they were starting with their entrepreneurship and agreed to do it in exchange for scientific publications.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from May 2013–September 2014.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

There is no other publicly available software to perform this specific task; nobody has developed something more advanced than this one, which is currently the golden standard. I even get occasional emails from other scientists asking me to share the software.

How did Chrum.it perform from a project management standpoint?

They did great; we used a project management tool and emails for communication.

What did you find most impressive about them?

When I met Christian, he was a video game developer, and I asked him to look into encrypted files that contained biological data, so I was highly impressed that he picked up on a different topic from what he commonly works with

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think there’s anything they can improve on — we were delighted with their work.

Any advice for potential customers?

Chrum.it is very amenable because it was straightforward to get immediate replies from their end. If this is the type of collaboration you are looking for, they are the perfect company.

The "Hisense 3D" application will allow you to visualize Hisense brand air conditioners in your home or office before purchasing.
