We hired Yellow Slice to design the first look and feel of our website. While we already had the overall structure, website flow, and user experience (UX), in place. We wanted Yellow Slice to refine the UI elements like the appearance and placement of buttons to enhance the overall user experience. Key Deliverables: UX UI screens in Figma format.

As this was our first UI development for the website, there were no pre-existing metrics such as page visits or bounce rates to serve as benchmarks for comparison.

We expressed a desire for more involvement from senior members, particularly Sunny. However, over time most interactions were only with Sonalika, and senior management presence was missing. Greater participation from senior team members could have potentially minimized the iterative back-and-forth and enhanced the overall ideation process.

The first design received was very vanilla and plain. It looked like any other templatised website that wasn’t adding any design value to our brand. Hence prompting us to request a rethink of the whole design. The subsequent iterations, featuring elements like the horn, were something we liked. However, Sonalika was very good at implementing the feedback.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The overall experience was quite standard, the deliverables were good, and we could launch but not very high-end. However, challenges arose during the development phase due to certain design elements not aligning seamlessly with HTML limitations which led to delays. The final design when compared to the modern design of competitors such as Espresso, Grow, and Upstocks, perceived a gap in design quality.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Yellow Slice could have done differently?

A more comprehensive research of the current design landscape could have been beneficial, especially in terms of the design quality prevalent in the market. Additionally, active participation from senior team members during the ideation process could have bridged the identified gap with designs aligning more closely with the high standards of the market.

The really cool features implemented by the Yellow Slice team, such as communities have significantly improved engagement time. Additionally, the daily flow of comments has also surged by 5x with a good increase in user retention.

The overall project including research, and wireframing adhered to the timeline. However, the UI phase faced some delays which could have been expedited. Despite these challenges, the project management aspect was commendable. The team was responsive to feedback, facilitating open and constructive collaboration whenever needed.

What stands out most is the exceptional level of personal engagement, commitment, and enthusiasm displayed by the entire team. This is very unlikely when you outsource a project, where dedication is limited to a few key individuals. However in Yellow Slice everyone actually cared about the project, gave their time whenever I asked, and got back with meaningful insights. 

Furthermore, interactions with Kishor have been consistently positive, and his ongoing support is truly valuable. The team was good and smart, demonstrating strong leadership.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Yellow Slice could have done differently?

The only area for improvement was the pace of UI delivery, which could have been expedited to enable an earlier app launch. The delay impacted the timing for the app launch, which was done by around October end meant missing the opportunity to introduce it before the start of the World Cup.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We introduced the app in September 2023 only and have put TNPS ( Transactional NPS) questions in place but since it has only been a month, it’ll be difficult to get any concrete results. Regardless, if we see just the 1-month data, there was approximately an 18% response rate in the last quarter before the new design was released. After the release, the response rate increased to 23%.

We deviated from the timeline for almost 1 quarter and the project management had some issues as there was not a single person who was available throughout the project. It became smoother when Sunny was involved in the project. There were many delays during the UI part which resulted in the lack of communication between the UX and the UI teams.

So, what we imagined in the UX part was not translated into the UI during the UI phase. With the change of team members, the knowledge transfer did not happen. And even for aesthetics validation, we had to interfere for good ideas on colors and elements.

When we were working on UPI-based action, Yellow Slice joined our pay team and worked on tasks related to UPI compliance. We onboarded an external resource from Yellow slice to quickly ramp up with speed on UPI and take pieces on UPI compliance. Vidushi, the design professional Yellow Slice assigned, had a really good understanding of UX and clarity for UI. 

We integrated her into the UPI team on fast-paced projects. She has good UX knowledge and collaborates well with others. She works with the UPI team on a bunch of projects and innovation tracks, researches early concepts, and is extremely agile and flexible to take different tracks in one go.

Their outcome deliverability is very high, they can embed designers very well, plus the design insights & background they bring to the table are also very enriching.

Yes, the project was a huge success. The Project was specifically designed and developed to present it to Prime Minister of India at 2022 - World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) at goa to Promote Digital India along with Ayurveda. The app was also promoted and previewed worldwide in a special web series, "Tu Abhi Tak Hai Haseen," on channel "Bharatiya Digital Party". Over 2 Lac+ Patients have done their Heart Health Assessment.a

Created a shortlist of Design agencies who had done similar work or had a good market reputation, had multiple rounds with each agency, explained our vision and end goals, went through their understanding of our vision and goals.

Post proposal sing-offs we had multiple discussions with the team where they took us through multiple user persona interviews, mockups, designs. Once we agreed on the initial documentation they shared a project plan which included resources, end date ( which included feedback review incorporation time). Initial daily, then weekly calls.

We had a single point of contact assigned to us through whom we had the sessions arranged. From their end, the team included a mix of web designers, developers, mobile design specialist, UX designer & developer.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The team managed our expectations well enough and all our concerns were addressed in a timely manner. Their senior management team was quite approachable and always took time to nip any issues in the bud.

Overall the project which went live gathered good reviews from existing as well as new customers who were happy with the change and the ease of user flow. For the new site & app which we have launched internally, the initial feedback has been really great and overall the feedback is very good.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We used initially Slack and then moved to Skype for our communications. Using GSuite, we had the project plan online and shared among all stakeholders. Meetings were regular and all major stakeholders were always available for us. Whenever we wanted any clarifications or problems to be addressed their team was available for us.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their openness in how they conduct their work, quick response time, their collaborative approach would be the most impressive traits.

Are there any areas for improvement?

At the end of the day as a customer, I would always argue that the work could have been done faster, the number of review meetings could have been lesser but in a team game it cant be only one section of the team who performs so overall I'd say they have quality people and they have to ensure that the quality of the team is maintained.

We’re a 360-degree digital marketing agency with two offices in Mumbai. I’m the co-founder and the director of the company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Yellow Slice?

We’re a marketing agency, but we didn’t have a background in consumer behavior and user experience. We offer app and web development services, and we started facing challenges with clients when there was communication around the consumer behavior component of developing a site or app.

We partnered with Yellow Slice for UX/UI design.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We run UX audits with Yellow Slice as part of client projects, if those involve web or mobile app development, including e-commerce websites. Their team follows up the process with the full frontend design. We integrate the design with the backend and then deliver the project to the client.

Yellow Slice addresses customer interactions, the flow of the UX design, and the call-to-action process. We look at the experience of different buyer personas, and whether a design is suitable for a particular age group or was doing it in-house, we probably weren’t even thinking of UX design at our agency. We thought more about generating traffic and getting apps downloaded.

Our clients have different technology preferences, but we’ve mainly delivered WordPress and Magento sites. We’ve also developed sites made in Node.js and React.

What is the team composition?

There’s an account manager that coordinates with us, and there are four UX designers that work in the background. One of Yellow Slice’s co-founders runs sprint workshops with us for analyzing requirements.

How did you come to work with Yellow Slice?

I searched Google and found 3–4 UX design companies within our location in Mumbai. Yellow Slice was close to us, and we liked their portfolio. They also fit into our price range.

How much have you invested with them?

With four projects, we’ve spent a total of 2,400,000 Indian rupees (approximately $32,190,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

Our engagement with Yellow Slice started in November 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The brainstorming process was new to us, and the deliverables have been up to our expectations. We’re continuing the collaboration with Yellow Slice because of their great service.

How did Yellow Slice perform from a project management standpoint?

There have been small delays in decision-making and generating feedback toward development, but those have been accounted for in the delivery schedule.

A 10%–20% delay will happen in every project, including on our end. Yellow Slice has mainly delivered on time, and our projects got closed within the correct timing.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Yellow Slice is giving us very personal attention, and we can differentiate them among their competitors by the experience they have. They were one of the initiators of UX design in Mumbai, which is something I learned only after I got them on board. I thought they were a six-to-eight-year-old company, but they have 12+ years of experience in UX design, dating back to when this area wasn’t even that popular.

Their UX knowledge is incredible. I screened a few of their competitors and found that Yellow Slice is the most experienced and friendly. They’re very good at explaining the entire process, and we’ve learned a lot during the workshops with them. Customer experience is gaining a dominant role when designing any kind of app.

I can’t think of any improvements.

I recommend going through the sprint workshop Yellow Slice conducts during the onboarding process, with the mention that everything is happening online since the lockdown.

The workshop will help clients understand what they need to do and the details they need to provide regarding the product.
