I'm the founder and owner of OG Props, a sports gaming and social mobile app. My company started as a game idea, but as I was developing it, I got more ideas to make it also a social site. Although there's no betting involved, people can engage through my site throughout the sporting season.

What challenge were you trying to address with Wve Labs?

Initially, I wanted to get an estimate of how much it would cost to build this app to see if I could pay it completely out of my pocket or if I needed to seek investors. Therefore, the goal depended on the price. Ideally, I wanted to reach a clickable prototype with a frontend design so that I could showcase the app to other people and figure out how it would work without actually developing the entire code behind it.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Wve Labs helped me create the prototype and frontend design of my mobile app. Before hiring them, I already had a vision for the platform, including the color scheme and how each of the screens would look. Still, Wve Labs helped me create my logo and polished my vision for the product. Additionally, they suggested additional features based on other projects they had worked on.

Throughout the process, we collaborated to define what we wanted the UI/UX to look like. For example, we iterated on the color scheme to find out ways to make it more digestible for the user and ultimately make the app seem more polished and nice. We went back and forth with different ideas, trying different things out. As for the technology stack, we used Figma.

I worked with three primary teammates from Wve Labs. I believe there were others working behind the scenes.

How did you come to work with Wve Labs?

I'm not tech-savvy, so when I had the idea for this app, I did some research and stumbled across Clutch's website, where I found Wve Labs. Choosing them was a combination of factors. The team had worked on another sports app, so I contacted the founder of that app independently and asked him questions about his process and how he felt about working with Wve Labs.

He told me that Wve Labs did a great job, and I was already leaning toward them. Therefore, the fact that the team had experience in the sports industry and the fact that this person reassured my feelings about Wve Labs made me go with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $15,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from November 2023–March 2024. Wve Labs provided me an estimate of how much would cost to fully develop the app. Currently, I'm sorting some things out, but I intend to continue working with them once I seek funds overseas to complete the project.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I'm the only one who has seen the prototype; I haven't put Wve Labs' work out or showcased it. Still, I'm very pleased with how the app looks, and I'm now eager to get it fully developed. Overall, I'm very pleased with the quality of Wve Labs' work, and I want to continue working with them to develop this app and launch it to the market. I'm working diligently on it, so it's only a matter of time.

How did Wve Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

Wve Labs did a great job managing the project. They were always very transparent and kept me in the loop about where we were and what they were working on. There was never a lack of communication, and everything was openly explained to me. Moreover, they did a good job sticking to the promised timeline.

We communicated via Slack, phone, text, and Zoom. Our communication channels were very versatile, so whenever I needed something, I always got a quick response.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Although everyone did a great job, I would like to shout out Anthony (Head of Business Development). He acted as my account manager, and he did a great job communicating with me and being available if I needed to jump on a call with him quickly. He did a great job putting me at ease and making sure everything was good.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Going into the project, I had some reservations because I was based in Connecticut, and Wve Labs was based in California, although they had teammates all across the US. It was impressive how well they were able to bridge the gap between us despite the distance. Even though they were located across the country, I felt like the project went on seamlessly, and they made me feel at ease. There was never a time when I was worried or anxious about anything.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything Wve Labs could have improved on. I only did the prototype development with them, and everything was straightforward.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have a vision of what you want. Even if you're not the most technical person, the more details you provide Wve Labs with, the better they'll be able to assist you. Work on the foundations of your app and let them assist you with the rest.

I’m the co-founder and operations manager at Apolide Travel, a travel company. We're a small startup — for now, it's just me and my co-founder.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Wve Labs is designing and developing our website and providing branding support. We started the process with a discovery meeting, where we dove deep into our brand and vision and how we wanted to communicate them to the public. From there, we went into the design phase. The team designed every page of the website using Figma and edited it according to my comments. We worked together to find the best way to tweak the designs to meet requirements. 

The entire design has been approved, and now Wve Labs is in the development stage, which has just begun. The team is integrating the design into the website.

Our initial meetings were with Dave (Co-Founder & CEO) and Delaney (Account Manager), who now acts as our project manager. Currently, we work with a team of designers and engineers from Wve Labs.

I found them through a referral from a friend. For us, it was very important to find a company and team that we could really trust and have a long-term relationship with, which was why it was important for us to receive a referral.

Wve Labs' work has met our expectations. We've officially approved Wve Labs' design and are super happy with how it's come out. Since they're knowledgeable about different markets, they've provided us with a lot of insight that has improved my vision and helped create something that attracts the audience I wanted. We've trusted Wve Labs from the moment we started working together. 

How did Wve Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They deliver on time and within budget. We primarily communicate through a Slack channel, but we've also used email, especially at the beginning of the process. Wve Labs communicates everything in a timely manner, and we have Zoom meetings once or even twice a week because they make adjustments very quickly. 

Sometimes, it can be challenging to communicate exactly how we want things, so we've had a lot of back and forth with Wve Labs, which has always gone in a positive direction. With every meeting, we get closer to what we want the website to look like. Overall, we've had a very speedy process. 

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Delaney has been kind and really helpful with everything, including when the design needed tweaks. My partner and I are first-time business owners, so this has been a learning process. Delaney has tried to understand our vision as best as possible and helped us communicate that to the designers and developers to ensure the results are exactly what we want.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We're really happy to have chosen Wve Labs because they listen and take the time to ensure every single detail — even the smallest — is exactly to our preference and satisfaction. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

One small thing they could improve is how quickly they make changes. Sometimes, it takes two iterations for a change to be made due to miscommunication on both sides. However, the minute I've pointed out a change hasn't been made, the team enacts the changes. Therefore, I wouldn't say there are downsides to my experience because everything is always figured out, and the results are always good.

Trust the process. The first design Wve Labs presents to you might not be perfect, but as long as you give them constructive feedback about the specific changes needed to make your vision come alive, they'll listen and be receptive to what you tell them. Be very clear on your vision, which will help them be more productive.

We launched the app a couple of days ago, and I don't have metrics to share at the moment. Users are downloading and sharing our app with their friends. Wve Labs is currently altering some things we want to change. The team is on top of work and is quick and efficient, considering they're in a different timezone.

Wve Labs has gone a little over budget, although we expected it. The team meets deadlines and communicates via Slack, Zoom, and phone calls. We use Figma to collaborate and share designs.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We initially had an extensive meeting where Wve Labs put together an SOW with an estimated timeline. From there, we went back and forth until we landed on a great design. We then went into the development phase until we wrapped up with the bugs and tweaks. For tools, we used Figma on the frontend and design. Meanwhile, they gave me several ideas for the logo design. We had some back and forth until we came up with something that worked. 

At present, we’re near the end of the engagement. We’re working on a few minor changes I requested because of my perfectionism. I plan to work further with Wve Labs on other marketing and branding projects.

Their project management is great. They stay under budget and deliver timely work. We’ve had no issues, and they’re highly efficient. All of their members have been great. Dave’s outstanding, while Anthony takes charge of the entire project. Belayneh has been on top of everything, and Anish has been impeccable from a technical standpoint.

For tools, I mainly communicate with them on Slack, Zoom, in-person meetings, emails, and texts.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started with a discovery phase where Wve Labs collaborated with our team to figure out the different functionalities and details of the site. They also put together color schemes and created multiple logo options for us. The team was responsible for website development from start to finish and connected various APIs to the site. The website was custom-built from scratch. 

The main feature we required was the ability to showcase a graph showing the changing daily prices of our raw materials. Wve Labs built an admin panel to manually input all the data points for that specific graph and connected API exchange rates so users can see the changes in real-time. They also created a contact form that disperses to particular contact points based on region and the customer's reason for contacting.

We needed help with mobile app development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Wve Labs is helping us design and develop a native Android and iOS mobile app and a web-based app from scratch — the former is a higher-budget project, and the latter is a support page. The platforms aim to use a camera function and AI to help agents and people market their properties. Moreover, Wve Labs’ team helped us design the logo and create a color palette. In terms of features, the apps also have in-app storage for real estate listings, sharing functionalities, and a referral system.

Regarding the process, they’ve gone through a discovery phase to clearly understand our vision and provide their professional input. After that, they’ve given us design proposals, which they’re integrating into the app.

So far, we’ve spent around $100,000 with them for both platforms.

We started working together in December 2022, and the engagement is ongoing.

The app that Wve Labs has created meets our expectations and works as intended. We have full-integrated builds for Android and iOS platforms with functional designs. In addition, they’re almost done with the web app, and everything’s great on that front too.

Wve Labs has been meeting deadlines and running a little under budget, which we appreciate. Regarding tools, we’ve used Slack, Zoom, and Figma for communication and project management. I’ve also had the opportunity to attend their offices and have in-person meetings.

For what projects/services did your company hire Wve Labs, and what were your goals?

This was a personal project that i was pursuing after Covid. The goal was to help professionals, students and health conscious people to better manage their work environment. I hired Wve Labs for UI design, App development and server operations.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I got the reference of this company from a colleague who had previously worked with them. My major deciding factors were cost competiveness, their previous work with very clean UI and the hybrid nature of operations that enabled me to have a project manager in the US.

The scope included 6 phases:

1. Discovery/Ideation
2. UI Design

The Discovery phase was quick and robust with their team identifying and helping me to narrow down the features. In the Design and Integration phases, i received prototypes of the app. In Deveopment phase, they provided versioned builds and the final product was delivered after QA which i signed off for Deployment. The project was recently launched and the initial set of users have given a really positive feedback. With my ongoing marketing activities, i am expecting to see a rise in daily active users. With whatever small stats i have so far, my average user is staying on the app for more than 2 hours everyday (which is a great start for a fitness and lifestyle app). The app's quality and the vendor's delivery speed exceeded my expectations, and I was excited about the end result.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

From day 1, I was in constant touch with an account manager/project manager who was with me throughout the project lifecycle. This made it really easy for the Wve Labs team to understand my vision from a very early stage. I could communicate very easily with the PM who was in their LA office and he was always happen to serve me in the EST time zone as well. We primarily communicated through Slack and weekly phone calls.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their design standards, communication and their ability to understand the vision of the project were very impressive. They were quick to identify the best Tech stack to fit my scalability needs along with latest industry standards. Another thing that stood out was the experience, clarity and knowledge that their CTO and CEO had over my meetings with them.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Would really love to see them venture more into providing after-deployment marketing services as well.
