While its almost impossible not to change the scope of a project, try to have a detailed outline of your project so you can properly convey it to a development company.

Vélan Solutions, LLC helped transform my company from a small local company to a nationwide software company. They helped us modernize our processes and grow the company. 

Everything has been fantastic. The team is willing to do whatever it takes to help their customers succeed. Because of the nature of my project, which involves government clients, they had to get some certifications, but they were more than willing to comply. They’ve never gone over our discussed budget in any aspect of the project and deliver everything on time.

We utilized an agile delivery process for this project. Vijay is incredible at managing projects. He breaks everything down into clear steps and brings in his developers. I can just tell them what needs to be done and be hands-off the rest of the time, focusing on running my business. 

We use Jira to manage the project and Slack to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team is always available. If something happens, I can get ahold of them instantly and someone will start working on it right away. Every project comes with bugs, that’s the nature of programming. Vélan Solutions, LLC is quick to fix them and puts out products that don’t need major revisions. Everything they make is quality.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I’m very happy, I’ve never had an issue with them.

Be honest with the scope of your work. Scope creep happens but knowing how big the project will be early on will help them best dedicate resources. 

Take a minute to get to know Vijay. He’s become a friend of mine. Getting to know him helps give me peace of mind and helps us work together better.

Velan helped us create a solution to our problem. We basically lost our entire contact database and had to start fresh. Velan created a link for us to send out to people so that they could give us the information we needed and then they cleaned up duplicate contact/companies. They then helped us to import all of this information into a project management program that we chose to use with the help from Velan. Gita, was very diligent in helping to set this whole thing up.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Velan Solutions took over this project because our current IT company could not come up with a solution. Everyone at Velan is VERY knowledgeable, professional and truly care about the work they do. We were able to find a project management program that works well for us. We found this program with the guidance of Velan Solutions. 

In the end we ended up with more than we were initially looking for and our entire business is now run completely different. We are more organized and streamlined in our day to day procedures.

Central Technology, Inc. specializes in the production of self-checkout products in the public library market. We also like to have some fun with other projects we find interest in.

We wanted to create entertainment apps for iOS and Android that are controlled by sonic commands. Our challenge was to find a team of experts in the field of audio processing for mobile devices, technically capable of creating new methods we specified which received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Vélan Solutions, LLC developed our complete app solution. First, they created the graphical user interface (GUI). The team penetrated low-level OS programming techniques to detect and process audio frequencies from a set array and to synchronize a plurality of mobile devices.

Our requirements included receiving a sonic timing signal broadcasted to the mobile device. The apps adjust and synchronize internal timers on handheld electronics to make them responsive to sonic timing signals. When the system is used on every attendee’s phone in the venue, it can produce a large-scale visual effect.

I’m a Police Psychologist and Chairman of the Board of Badge of Life. We’re a national nonprofit that educates law enforcement about mental health and suicide prevention.

I became chairman when the organization was rebuilding its board and volunteer base. As a result, I had technical projects on my plate and didn’t have the expertise to know what to do. I then hired Vélan Solutions, LLC to help me on web-based projects where I didn’t have the builds.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The engagement has multiple components. The priority is our upcoming conference in November. Since I didn’t know how to manage the reservation system and payments, the team set up an Eventbrite account for the conference and taught me how to track the credit card submissions.

Having completed the Eventbrite component Vélan Solutions, LLC will now update our quarterly newsletter. Each newsletter is different with various authors. The team will offer templates that we can later customize as needed. In addition, we have a website that’s been in poor condition. Even though he had much larger clients at the time, Vijay was very respectful of our budget and worked efficiently with us. They solved the Eventbrite portion in an intensive three-day period. Vijay cleverly diagrammed the credit card processing to help us understand how the platform worked. His expertise helped us slim down costs, which we appreciated as a nonprofit on a very tight margin. For our website, they’ve cleaned it up and made it more user-friendly. The team also came under budget for that deliverable.

Vijay is my knight in shining armor. He’s easy to work with and educates us as he leads the process. I can contact his team—call, text, or email—whenever I want because they are always available. Vijay made a smart business move to take us on while he worked on other large projects and still respond to us personally. Initially, I was somewhat anxious about making sure everything got done in a timely fashion, but they’ve done us proud on in every aspect of the engagement. Development has been early and under budget.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team has a great sense of humor and no sense of superiority because we didn’t understand something. I walk into the office and I feel relaxed. Vijay says not to worry because it will be okay and everything will get done. He’s on board for life as far as I’m concerned. I need to go nowhere else.

I have their business cards on my desk and give them to anyone who’s interested in getting a project done accurately, quickly, and pleasantly. Furthermore, the team makes the client comfortable by sitting them down and asking for information. In many cases, he inquired about things I wouldn’t have known to think about or address.

We spend a lot of time in the field and wanted to automate the field inspection process via an app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Since we’re often out taking photographs of properties, it’s important to label them correctly before uploading images to the system. We needed a solution that could manage the labeling tasks automatically, with different required categories like the front of the house, interior, exterior, and so on. In our first meeting with Vélan Solutions, they quickly grasped the value of our project and mapped out the development.

Our app runs on both iOS and Android and is aimed at users performing home inspections. It applies its own GUI to the camera, rather like a photo filter, so that the images can be labeled in real time. The user chooses the correct label category from a list, takes the photo, and it’s ready for upload.

What is the team composition?

I primarily communicate with their owner, Vijay, but I’ve met the whole team. For this particular project, there were three or four people involved at different stages.

How did you come to work with Vélan Solutions?

I received a recommendation from an IT person, who sent an introductory email to them with my company information. Once they responded, we moved forward with the project.

We’ve invested close to $27,000 USD.

We worked with them from January–August 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app has saved me anywhere between an hour and a half to two hours of work per day. I do four or five inspections a day and typically take 50 to 75 photos per inspection, so the automatic labeling saves easily 20 minutes per location. Physically labeling the photos after the fact used to be daunting and time-consuming, but now I’m at the point where I can even fit extra inspections into my schedule. This investment has really paid off.

How did Vélan Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

Their response times were almost unbelievably prompt throughout the process. We communicated via email and occasionally shared files through Google Drive, and I’d get responses within two hours. Their team was very professional and created a nice, friendly environment. They’re a bright team of people.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They came in with no knowledge about my business but at the end of our initial meeting, it felt like Vijay was almost reading my mind in terms of how I wanted certain things to be done. He immediately suggested solutions that would optimize my workload. I’ve really enjoyed working with him.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Not really. I can’t think of a single thing I didn’t like during the process. They were professional in every respect. There was very smooth cooperation throughout the process.

I’m the technical director at Logos E. We specialize in mobile video broadcasting, mainly B2BVB (business to business video broadcasting). We provide corporate solutions to secure and internalize video content, in addition to various consumer-based products.

Following a negative experience with a past developer, who sold our codes to a different client, I was desperate to find a replacement team to support multiple projects for my company.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Vélan Solutions, LLC developed the backend of a web-based application and integrated it with a mobile scanning device from Zebra Technologies. Using infrared technology, sales assistants can scan a barcode to find a video detailing the product’s market and background information. With the web app’s analytics component, we can track when employers are watching videos, how long they watch them, and other relevant information. Additionally, their team assembled an internal solution for push notifications that didn’t use Google Technologies. Currently, they’re providing support and making updates to enhance the system.

I mainly communicated with Vijay (Founder, Vélan Solutions, LLC), who is based in Chicago. We’re also in contact with a resource working from India.

Our CEO is on the board of RPost, a solution that lets companies see if their emails have been read, whose technical director recommended we partner with Vélan Solutions, LLC. After a brief interview, we tasked them with a small project. We were very impressed with their performance.

We’re currently in negotiation with Zebra Technologies. Because they liked the app so much, they want to use it as their official internal communication tool. With that in mind, we conduct very rigorous tests and immediately fix any bugs.

There’s a high level of communication and understanding between our teams. Mainly, we interact through email, phone calls, text messages, and Skype. So far, we haven’t used a project management tool because there hasn’t been a need for one. Their team is very responsive and consistently meets deadlines. Through productive discussions, we’re able to come up with new ideas and highlight any drawbacks.

Working PoC/Demo that implements the concept provided at the beginning followed by implementation of the detailed requirements.

Project Management was using weekly calls and periodic in person meetings with periodic demos. Delivery was always on time. During the later stages of the project that required some very quick response times, they were able to be onsite to provide support to get live feedback for UI elements. Project Management that kept the deliverables on track and communicate any blockers that impeded progress.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We're impressed with their keen understanding of the needs of the PoC at the beginning when the project details were not yet clear, start with a framework that was then used to add on features to meet end User requirements/Stories. The in-person support as and ability to understand the overall project picture even when working on only one component allowed them to react quickly to UI changes.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Velan Solutions, LLC could have done differently?

Room for improvement in some of the testing aspects to eliminate bugs that come out with stress testing.
